23 YEARS OLD

• Dave Manga founds Outset Media, originally for the sole purpose of publishing and distributing a Canadian Trivia game.

1997

100,000 SOLD

• After 16 months of development, including packaging components by hand, coming up with all the questions, and developing game play, All Canadian Trivia is published.

• Dave stores the entire inventory in his garage.

• Despite Trivial Pursuit launching a Canadian edition of their game in the same year, that original Canadian Trivia goes on to sell over 100,000 copies.

2002 NEAR BANKRUPCY

• Outset Media nearly closes after its main customer Stewart House Publishing goes bankrupt. With nearly 50% of its revenue in bad debt, Outset Media is bolstered by financing from the Royal Bank of Canada.

• Outset Media launches the first of its awardwinning and extremely successful titles in the Professor Noggin’s card game series for kids.

2003 MOVING

• Outset Media moves into a (somewhat) fancy new office in Victoria as Dave’s garage is no longer big enough!

• Outset Media appears on Profit Magazine’s “Top 100” list of the fastest growing companies in Canada, and would stay there for six consecutive years.

2012 MADE IN USA

• In an effort to do its part to create jobs in North America, Outset Media makes the decision to bring the bulk of its manufacturing back to North America. Over 75% of Outset Media’s games and over 95% of Cobble Hill puzzles are manufactured in Canada and the United States.

2010

JACK PINE PUZZLE CO.

• To meet the need of massmarket puzzles, Jack Pine Puzzle Company is established.

1999 ACROSS CANADA

• A millennium edition of All Canadian Trivia is launched and Dave goes on a two month tour across Canada in his van promoting the game.

2004 SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

• Outset Media is awarded Supplier of the Year by the Neighborhood Toy Stores of Canada. Outset Media would go on to win the title seven times in eleven years.

2005

COBBLE HILL CREATED

• Cobble Hill Puzzle Company is founded with the goal of giving customers high quality puzzles made in North America.

100,000 SOLD

• Doughnuts becomes the first Cobble Hill puzzle to sell over 100,000 units.

• Outset Media wins Supplier of the year from the Canadian Gift Association.

2014

EUROPEAN MARKET

• Outset Media expands overseas with distribution in Europe.

• Cobble Hill becomes the first puzzle company to produce puzzles by worldrenowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman.

2016 RIBBON CUTTING

• Outset Media opens its new 70,000 sq. ft. warehouse and 4000 sq. ft. showroom. The mayor of Brampton, helped by Dave’s three daughters, officiates the ribbon cutting.

• Outset Media celebrates its 20th anniversary with a two-day event for customers, suppliers, staff, and family.

2015

1 MILLION SOLD

• Outset Media ships its one millionth Professor Noggin’s game!

2018

COBBLE HILL MAKEOVER

• After twelve years with the same packaging, Cobble Hill gets a new look. And all big box piece counts get a poster added.

2019

1 MILLION SOLD

• A new milestone is reached. Over one million puzzles sold in a single year!

• Following the highly successful launch of its first licensed property in 2015 - a Goosebumps® board game - Outset Media publishes Star Trek® and Doctor Who® games and puzzles.

2023

COBBLE HILL BOX CHANGES SIZE

• In an effort to increase what can be stored in the warehouse and decrease our environmental impact, the Cobble Hill box is reduced in size.

2020 COVID-19

• The pandemic interrupts manufacturing, shipping, and daily living. There is unprecedented demand for puzzles. Outset responds by temporarily halting Cobble Hill sales on its own website, in order to supply our existing customers – both large and small – with as many puzzles as possible.
