THE LIGHTS ARE SO BRIGHT, BUT THEY NEVER BLIND HIM Interview RACHEL HALLETT Photography + Creative Direction ALEKSANDAR TOMOVIC @alekandsteph Styling PHILIPPE UTER @philippeuter Assistant Styling TANYA NAZARIAN Grooming SIMONE for Exclusive Artists using Skyn ICELAND and Kevin Murphy @simonegrooming Digital mastering LUKA UKROPINA @luka_ukropina Production @BELLOmediagroup x @maisonpriveepr_la x @alexbonnetwrites Fame found him young, but his success is no fluke. Noah Schnapp continues to prove that his work ethic is unabated by age. Now, 15 years old, Schnapp looks forward to roles that push him “outside of his comfort zone” and transcend boundaries. The world first fell in love with Schnapp in his portrayal of the kid brother, Will Byers, on Stranger Things. Schnapp explains how excited he was to land the role and his first TV show; “The story is based around a group of teenagers, those are the main characters. That really grabbed my attention.”

When asked whose career he would most like to emulate, he revealed his fondness of everyone’s favorite nice guy – Tom Hanks. “He actually played my dad in the first movie that I ever worked on. I didn’t realize who he was at the time! But he taught me all the basics, everything that I didn’t know. As an actor, he’s such a huge role model for me. He’s such an amazing, successful actor who also manages to stay grounded and humble. I really aspire to be like him. He plays so many different roles; he can literally do anything, from comedy to drama.”

This year, Schnapp was part of many different projects such as Season 4 of “Stranger Things” in addition to a couple of feature films, including Waiting for Anya. “Since it’s a period piece, I did quite a bit of research on WWII,” shares Schnapp of his role in Waiting for Anya. In the film, Schnapp portrays Jo, a young Shepard, who solicits the help of widowed Horcada (Anjelica Huston) in smuggling Jewish children across the border from southern France into Spain during WWII. “I read the book that it was based on before I started the project,” explains Schnapp. “I talked with my family about the Holocaust. We’re Jewish, so the story especially resonated with me.”

The ambitious teenager never expected this level of fame though. “It’s definitely pretty overwhelming sometimes. But I’m really lucky and grateful to have all these fans. I know I’m lucky.” The spotlight may shine bright on Schnapp, but that brightness never phases him. “I try to make sure that I still get a normal life and go to school – do all the normal things. I still want to have a childhood,” he explains. “I make sure that there’s a balance of both, and I have my parents, my sibling, and my friends to keep me grounded.”

In just a few short years, Schnapp has already managed to ornament his budding career with some heavy-hitting co-stars. When asked about which actor he connected with most on the set of Waiting for Anya, he revealed his admiration for Anjelica Huston. “She’s just a really incredible actor. I remember going on set and being a little intimidated actually. She’s taught me so much.” But Huston isn’t the only celeb Schnapp has had the opportunity to work with.

Schnapp’s level-headed demeanor can make it easy to forget his age. His understanding of the world and his play in it is beyond his years. But at the end of the interview, we’re reminded that he really is still a kid at heart. When asked about one thing that he simply cannot live without, Schnapps replied “my bed. I love to relax.” Talk about a teenage dream.

In his upcoming film Hubie Halloween, Schnapp stars alongside Adam Sandler. “That’s the first real, official comedy that I’ve done.” gushes Schnapp. Even with ample experience under his belt, Schnapp can still get nervous. Luckily, Sandler was there to show him the ropes. “He was so amazing and lighthearted! It was a great movie to work on, completely out of my comfort zone.”

How has acting helped you in your personal life? Acting has made me so much happier. It is something that I absolutely love to do and there is no better feeling than getting paid to do what you love. Before Supergirl, I was going to college where I was not passionate about my studies and was about to go into my senior year thinking that I needed to completely change my major, and I was just uninterested in the whole thing. I was bored to death. I had been auditioning for years without getting anything and I was about to give up. I figured that I needed to get realistic about my career expectations, and just then was when I got the lead in Bit (thanks, Brad) and then the role of Nia. It was fully my Wizard of Oz, sepia-to-technicolor moment. Now I get to do what I love with people that I love. I get to play dress up all day and run around in a super suit and pretend to shoot energy blasts out of my hands. I even get days on set where all I have to do in a scene is fall asleep. It is the stupidest job in the world and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love it.

This all led to my mom, my brother, Jonas, and I have to leave the school and move to another city two and a half hours south where we could start over. My dad had to stay behind so he could keep his job at the university. We didn’t live together for another six years. When you hear the word “Beauty,” what does it mean to you? I think beauty is something that is both internal and external. Pretty is surface level, but “Beauty” goes deeper. I think that beautiful people are those who bring love with them wherever they go, and they share that with those around them. I also think of “-and the Beast”. I love that one. What was the hardest obstacle you faced during the Doe v. Clenchy Supreme Court Case and how did you overcome it?

Transporting His Audience Interview ALEX BONNET @alexbonnetwrites

Photographer FRANZ MAHR @franzmars Creative Direction ALEKSANDAR TOMOVIC @alekandsteph Styling ROCIO VEGA @_rociovega Production @BELLOmediagroup x @maisonpriveepr_la x @bonnetalex18 As Josh Levi brings to us his first-ever project, DISC ONE, he also brings with it passion and talent. DISC ONE marks the debut of his career in which he felt as if he was meeting himself again for the first time but then again... not at all. Completely embedded in him, his music truly feeds his soul and that of those around him. Hoping his audience feels transported when they hear his music, Levi embraces the past, present, and future. His love for music began at a young age and after years of hard work he is finally where he is supposed to be. Also very engaged in what has been happening in our current World, Levi inspires us and those around him to keep fighting for justice... After all, we are all human. We all have a heart, body, and mind and it's time the rest of the world acknowledges that. Share with us what it was like working on your first- my voice in elementary school. I just knew in my heart that ever project, DISC ONE. What inspired you to write it? it was what I was here to do. Creating Disc One felt really trippy in the sense that it felt like I was creating the start of my career. I felt like I remet myself in these songs but at the same time, nothing felt foreign–I hope that makes sense. I’ve heard these melodies and ideas before in my head, but I was never able to accomplish them more accurately than I did on Disc One. This project is so special to me because I’ve been an artist for so long, but this project made me feel like this was the actual beginning. I’m a perfectionist so there were so many late nights I rarely got sleep because I didn’t want to leave the studio without a finished 100% complete song‌ which meant singing ad libs half awake and leaving the studio at 1 or 2 am haha.

As an artist, what is your main purpose?

I always say, I hope whoever listens to Disc One feels like they are somewhere else, whatever ‘somewhere else’ is to them. Could be the future, could be the past, could be in space, could be heaven, wherever that is. I wanted to create an escape with my music and this EP. I also want people to feel like they know me, or at least know me better–see what I did there đ&#x;™‚

Growing up, what artists influenced your being?

Oops, I kind of answered that early. My purpose is to use my gift – every inch of it – before I leave here. Using my gift to heal, to help people escape, to help tear down walls that should be broken, to help someone find happiness, and to help give me a platform to make real change in society and the world I live in. How has music helped you in your own life?

It’s given me a sense of identity. I know when I wake up every day who I am and what I’m supposed to do with my life. Even though I struggle with the ‘how’ part of my What do you hope your audience feels and gets from purpose, I’m so grateful to have the gift of music. A lot of gospel artists for the first 9 years of my life. After that, I found Brandy, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Nirvana, and a bunch of other rock stars and bands I now am in love with. What can fans expect next?

Tell us more about your favorite moment working on the Emmy-winning series “Friday Night Lightsâ€? alongside Disc Two? A collab? A live performance? More music videos? Michael B. Jordan. I had no idea I was working with legends – I was 11 years old! It was such a blessing to be able to witness such talented actors be so graceful yet so amazing at what they do–it set such a good example and made a huge impression on me as a kid. Also, Jurnee Smollet – who played my sister – is now in one of my favorite shows on HBO called “Lovecraft Countryâ€? which is brilliant. I’m toning down how obsessed I am with that show‌ I don’t know if you can tell.

If you could collab with anyone (dead or alive), who would you choose and why? Stevie Wonder, Michael, Beyonce, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy – all because they had so much to do with who I am. Message to your audience.

ALEX CUBIS

Usually, rising star Alex Cubis divides his time between Sydney and LA. While quarantine and travel restrictions may have kept him stuck in LA, it doesn't mean it's reason to not find some joy in style. Catch him in a new series and some other film projects later this year. Shot by Justin Chen. Styling by Nicole Cloutier. How do you stay positive? That’s a tricky one - but I think keeping a balance between productivity and finding time to relax are good things to be mindful of day-to-day. My default is to distract myself with busy work but oftentimes that’s not an effective long-term solution to tackling a challenged mindset. How do you stay inspired? Reading and listening about people doing great work - no matter what their job might be. When it comes to finding creative inspiration, watching good movies and shows, or reading scripts, tends to work. How would you describe your style? I’m not sure I really have a style - I tend to rely on others’ input. But when in doubt, I just try to keep it simple and make sure the fit is good. Most of the time, I try to buy second-hand or vintage clothes from op-shops - better for the environment, and it's cheaper.

SAMUEL ARNOLD

When did you realize your interest in acting? As a kid I would watch a cop movie, then I’d want to be a cop. A superhero movie, then I’d want to be superhero… It’s only when I grew up a bit that I realised that I wanted to be an actor, to be all those things that I’m actually not. What is a major difference between the actor you are now to the actor you were five years ago? To me acting is, among other things, about life experiences. The architecture of the character I play in ‘Emily in Paris’ makes more sense to me now than it would have 5 years ago. The actor I am now is more experienced, and he will be even more in the future I hope. What was your favorite part about working on Emily in Paris? I never played a series regular character on a series before. Being able to follow the journey of Julien and his evolution through the whole story was a very enjoyable experience. Working with the ‘Emily in Paris’ family was amazing too…To be honest I loved so many things about this project, I could not tell which is my favourite. What is your favorite memory, on or off set? Same thing here. The entire journey was such an unforgettable experience. From the fun, we had on set to the parties with the all crew. Or sharing a beautiful flat with Lucas Bravo and Ashley Park in Le Marais (that beautiful area in Paris). We created so many precious memories that will stay with me forever. How do you relate to your character, Julien? In a way, Julien is an upgraded version of me. We both like to look good, we are both funny and loyal to our loved ones. He just does all those things better than I do. But I’m getting there. What was the most challenging thing about playing Julien? Julien has this very feminine quality, and he is glamourous. He is basically a diva. I had to make sure not to be a caricature or a cliché while remaining free. Who is your dream collaboration? To me, a dream collaboration would be to work with someone that understands my artistic language as much as I understand his/hers. No matter who that person is. If the project is beautiful and we move at the same rhythm, then I got myself a dream collaboration. Who would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? To play a young French boy like me? I have no idea. I’m sure that there are many skilled actors with a big range that can do it, but I just can’t see who. My nephew Mael is very talented though. He is 8 years old and he is just like me on so many levels. If he is crazy enough to become an actor, I’d like him to play me. You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life. What is it? It’s going to be something that I’m going to hate for the rest of my life. I’d say « Nothing was the same » by Drake. What are you most looking forward to in 2021? I feel like ‘Emily in Paris’ has opened a new world of possibilities. I am looking forward to see where it’s going to take me, I cannot wait to see where I’d be in 2021.
