Shop Apex TrunksSouthern California native Jim Olarte's artwork is featured in the window of Outerknown's Carlsbad shop. A selftaught artist, devoted ocean enthusiast, and spirited beachcomber, Jim fuses meticulously knotted macramé, seasalvaged debris, and pieces of found boat fiberglass to create his pieces, evoking the dynamic nature of the rugged shoreline against the unchanging sea.
“I’m always looking for something unnatural in a natural environment. Like trash or lead weights, something that really shouldn’t be there. I’ve trained my eye to look for textures and colors in a natural environment… you have to be open to see everything.”
- JIM OLARTE CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIAOur shops are a physical manifestation of our brand. With the same thoughtful attention to detail we put towards making our clothes, we've been designing the best shop experience with responsible innovation throughout. Come stop by and hang with us!
Ethan Estess is a Central California native and lifelong surfer who seamlessly blended his love for the ocean with a passion for hands-on craftsmanship early on in life. His sculptural narratives dive deep into environmental science, addressing issues like marine plastic pollution and tuna conservation, illuminating humanity's profound impact on the global ecosystem. Inspired
by Earth's biodiversity, found objects, motion, and the delicate balance between humans and nature, Ethan created a sculpture for our most beloved item, and we call it "The Blanket Shirt Wave Wall." Crafted with reclaimed maritime rope in beautiful organic wave-like patterns, this piece is the perfect backdrop to highlight our best-selling signature since day one.
