Division One Previews and Teams

Gembrook Cockatoo, who have turned the Division 1 finals race on its head in the past two weeks, face a Healesville side needing a big scalp to keep its finals aspirations on track, with Berwick Springs right on their heels.

After their sensational win against archrivals Emerald the week earlier, the Brookers went one better knocking off the previously undefeated Seville by 1-point last week. Myles Wareham continued his stellar month, with 4 goals, whilst Brayden Weller, Josh Tilley and Aaron Firrito were pivotal, as Gembrook took outright second spot.

Healesville, off a bye need to get a win against the top 3 if they want to return to September action this year. It has been a season of significant improvement at Don Rd, but Dean De Munks men set a goal of September action at the start of the year and this looms as a terrific opportunity to highlight their credentials as a finals side this year.

Yarra Glen host Berwick Springs for the first time at Yarra Glen Showgrounds, with both sides coming off excellent wins last week.

Yarra Glen overcame a much-improved Belgrave in a thriller last week, a result which was reward for a really good run of form for the River Pigs without getting the four points. Billy Gardner and Benny Ashton, as they have so often, were instrumental in a Yarra Glen victory, whilst Charlie Wood continues to emerge for the River Pigs

Last weeks thrilling 5-point win surely is the best of the Titans short history. Berwick Springs improvement in their second year has been outstanding and the win against Emerald showed that the Titans now believe they can compete with the very best in Division 1. Daniel Ousley, James Makrodimitris and Daymon Hutchison were amongst the best for the titans, who now have the opportunity to consolidate a position in the top 4

In the match of the round in Division 1, Emerald host Seville in a game that has suddenly taken on significant magnitude following surprise losses for both clubs last week.

Emerald will rue not grabbing at least one win out of the last two weeks, where they have played well against fellow finals aspirants, with nothing to show for it. Jake Pedder and Patrick Chin were again the best for the bombers, who need to get back on board against their fierce rivals if they are to stay in touch with the top 4.

For Seville, their first loss of the year came by the smallest possible margins. The Blues had multiple chances late to pinch another win and lost no friends in their first loss. Dylan Broadway with 3 goals, Josh Weightman and Jake Strachan were amongst the best.

Division One sees third placed Emerald host the unbeaten Seville at Chandler Reserve. Yarra Glen captured fourth place with victory last week and will be looking to cement their place when they host Berwick Springs. Belgrave host second place Berwick at Belgrave Recreation Reserve. Belgrave need the win to keep in finals contention. Gembrook Cockatoo have the bye.
