Premier Div Previews and Teams
Narre Warren continued on its winning ways against Pakenham, but face a sterner test in the rested Monbulk this week at Fox Rd. The hawks threw everything at Narre in their previous meeting, with late Narre Warren goals inflating a margin that was never more than 18 points for all but the final 5 minutes.
Tom Miller, Jake Richardson with 6 goals and Kurt Mutimer led from the front for Narre in a convincing win against traditional rivals Pakenham. Peter Gentile with 3 and Will Howe with 4 complimented a forward group that again fired on all cylinders.

For Monbulk, this shapes as a fantastic opportunity for a young squad to cement their place in the top 5. The Hawks remain undefeated away from home this year, which includes away wins against Woori Yallock and Pakenham.
In a game that will have significant consequences on the Top 3 chances of both clubs, arch Rivals Woori Yallock and Wandin face off at Woori Yallock reserve in the Premier Division match of the Day. Whilst Woori Yallock took the honours in the first match up, they face a doggies outfit that has improved significantly since early in the season.
Woori Yallock have started to see their best side return over the past month, enjoying maybe their best win of 2022 against Olinda Ferny Creek last week. Jacob Aitchison, Robbie Allen and Bailey Syswerda repelled attack after attack last week, keeping a very potent Olinda to 58 points. At the other End Ben Monkhorst led the way with 4 Majors.
Wandin had a convincing win against local rivals Mt Evelyn in at times a fiery encounter. Clint Johnson was outstanding up forward with 7 goals, with the young dog’s midfield led by Pat Bruzzesse, Cody Hirst and Todd Garner running riot.
Woori Yallock led the tie breaker between both clubs by 18 points, so final margin may be telling if the Dogs take the points on Saturday.
Rivals Officer and Pakenham meet in a must win game for both clubs, for very different reasons. For Officer, last weeks loss to Upwey Tecoma has them firmly in the relegation zone, whilst for Pakenham, who have not won in 4 games, a win will be vital to stay in touch with the Top 5.
Officer never recovered from a poor start against Upwey despite the efforts of Matthew Chmait, Brent Moloney and Ben O’Loughlin. Chase Smaulch also continued his consistent form across the season for the Roos. Goals have been at a premium over the past month and increasing avenues to goal will be a key focus for Troy Tharle and Anthony Bernado this week at Toomuc.
Pakenham, after a fantastic start to the season have really struggled to replicate their early season form. Of most concern for the lions would be their form at Toomuc Reserve, a ground that has been a fortress for them over the past few completed seasons. Stewart, Cardona and Thompson were again in the best for Pakenham, who need a greater spread of contributors if they are to get back into finals calculations in the run home.
The final match of Round 11 sees Olinda Ferny Creek host Upwey Tecoma in a match up that always delivers the goods, no matter what position either side is on the ladder. The previous meeting on ANZAC Day was one of the games of the season, with the Bloods holding on against a fast-finishing tigers by a kick.
Olinda matched Woori Yallock around the ground last week, but will rue their forward entries and use going inside 50. Young gun Francis Seal impressed across half back, whilst the ever-consistent Matt Scharenberg and Patrick Rosier tried valiantly in a losing cause.
If Olinda are to feature in September action this year, this shapes as a must win game, whilst a win for the Tigers would all but seal a place in Premier Division for 2023.
The sigh of relief from the Superdome could be heard from down the hill as the Tigers eased pressure in the relegation race with a resounding win against Officer. Bailey Oates and Glenn Costas were pivotal in the midfield, whilst the Water’s brothers were again key contributors, with Daniel kicking 7.
NETBALL
A Grade this week sees some important games across all three divisions.
In Premier, sixth placed Pakenham take on ROC at James Bathe Community & Sports hub. Pakenham need a victory to stay in touch with the top five while ROC are in a three-way battle for second place on the ladder. Unbeaten Narre Warren host fifth place Monbulk. Woori Yallock take on Wandin at Don Road Healesville. Olinda Ferny Creek is at home to Upwey-Tecoma. Despite ladder positions, the last three encounters from these two clubs have gone right down to the wire. Bottom placed Beaconsfield host Mt Evelyn and will be desperate for a win.
