It’s Hot Dear Readers, Breaking news. It’s hot outside. I know, right? But guess what? Come December, January, and February, you won’t be digging yourself out of a snowbank, your cars won’t be sliding into each other on the ice, you won’t have to be dressed in so many layers, and you won’t look like a character from A Christmas Story. And I know there’s a lot of negative talk right now about why Florida isn’t the place to be. But I have worked my ass off (yes, I know, Mom) to get to Florida. And no one, no one, is going to take away my chance in life to enjoy this wonderful weather, our diverse community, our amazing beaches, our plethora of cultural activities, or the beautiful home from which I am typing this letter. No political banter is going to take away my freedom to be happy in the SunShine State. I hope it doesn’t for you either. This, too, shall pass. And we will be victors and not victims1 once it does. Leather and Gold Behind the leather is a heart of gold. Gilbert Guardiola, “Lil Daddy”, proudly wears the current banner of Mr. Eagle Wilton Manors. However, he wants to introduce himself as more than a title-holder. He is a survivor, philanthropist, volunteer, workaholic, and a mariachi singer. Gilbert arrived in Fort Lauderdale almost two years ago. Vacationing from Dallas, TX, he decided it was time for a change and a challenge. He did not return to Texas even to pack his belongings. Since then, he has worked as an Eagle security guard and as a bartender at Rebel Wine Bar in Oakland Park. A self-proclaimed workaholic, Gilbert has yet to enjoy Fort Lauderdale Beach more than once! Lil Daddy carried the titles of Mr. Hidden Door and Mr.TBRU Cub 24 while in Dallas. He also began his dedication to volunteering in Dallas at age 17. He now happily serves with Midland Cares promoting health, wellness, and disease prevention in Broward County and FlockFest which provides donations to local charities. Lil Daddy says, “I never wanted the recognition, but Mr. Eagle allows me to take the title and use it as a voice to unite the community, to fight for equality. To help me accomplish this goal, include yourself as much as possible in volunteering and philanthropy.” As Mr. Eagle, Lil Daddy became a candidate for International Mr. Leather in May 2023 where he Pridefully placed 5th. On the experience, he says, “It was an emotional roller coaster, good and bad, where I met wonderful people who have platforms to share with the world. They have become my family.” All of Wilton Manors is proud of our Mr. Eagle. When asked about the leather lifestyle, Gilbert says the parameters of leather are evolving and growing, but “always a feeling of enjoyment while expressing your personality through leather.” And wear it perfectly he does.

In addition to representing Mr. Eagle, working, and volunteering, Gilbert enjoys painting, drawing, arts and crafts, and mariachi singing. He often may be found in the karaoke lineup at Hunter’s or Scandals Saloon. Lil Daddy has two goals for the future: to unite the Latino leather community and to encourage LGBTQA+ youth with the advice of “become involved, educate yourself, and surround yourself by people who can challenge you because that’s how you grow.” Lil Daddy’s parting words should be creed for all, “Love, kindness, compassion, and respect; you never know whose blessing you may be or life you may change.”

Breaking Bad on Bogus Reviews The Federal Trade Commission is proposing new rules to combat the growth of bogus reviews. According to a Brightlocal survey in 2021, 98% of consumers use reviews to determine if a local business is good or bad. The 2022 survey by Brightlocal found that most consumers have seen fake reviews on various sites. ● 93% of Facebook users are at least ‘a little suspicious’ of fake reviews on Facebook. 37% are ‘very suspicious’ of fake reviews on Facebook. ● 90% of Google users are at least ‘a little suspicious’ of fake reviews on Google, but just 10% are ‘very suspicious’ of fake reviews on Google. ● Better Business Bureau is, by far, the most trusted review site. Only 29% of its users are ‘fairly’ or ‘very’ suspicious of reviews on that site. Most sites, like the Better Business Bureau, employ screening protocols to help identify reviews that are not authentic. BBB uses an automated tool to help spot suspicious reviews, gathers information about the person submitting each review and follows up to obtain objective data/information to validate reviews before being posted. Nonetheless, it is evident that consumers are beginning to question how trustworthy consumer reviews are as a tool to evaluate business services and products. Since reviews have become such an important resource for consumers, the FTC proposal seeks to address some of the practices at the heart of the current review crisis. The Federal Trade Commission proposed rule seeks to stop marketers from using illicit review and endorsement practices such as using fake reviews, suppressing honest negative reviews, and paying for positive reviews, which deceive consumers looking for real feedback on a product or service and undercut honest businesses. Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection said, “the new rule would trigger civil penalties for violators and should help level the playing field for honest companies.” Specifically, the proposed rule would prohibit: ● Selling or Obtaining Fake Consumer Reviews and Testimonials: The proposed rule would prohibit businesses from writing or selling consumer reviews or testimonials by someone who does not exist,

who did not have experience with the product or service, or who misrepresented their experiences. It also would prohibit businesses from procuring such reviews or disseminating such testimonials if the businesses knew or should have known that they were fake or false. Review Hijacking: Businesses would be prohibited from using or repurposing a consumer review written for one product so that it appears to have been written for a substantially different product. Buying Positive or Negative Reviews: Businesses would be prohibited from providing compensation or other incentives conditioned on the writing of consumer reviews expressing a particular sentiment, either positive or negative. Insider Reviews and Consumer Testimonials: The proposed rule would prohibit a company’s officers and managers from writing reviews or testimonials of its products or services, without clearly disclosing their relationships. It also would prohibit businesses from disseminating testimonials by insiders without clear disclosures of their relationships. Company Controlled Review Websites: Businesses would be prohibited from creating or controlling a website that claims to provide independent opinions about a category of products or services that includes its own products or services. Illegal Review Suppression: Businesses would be prohibited from using unjustified legal threats, other intimidation, or false accusations to prevent or remove a negative consumer review. The proposed rule also would bar a business from misrepresenting that the reviews on its website represent all reviews submitted when negative reviews have been suppressed. Selling Fake Social Media Indicators: Businesses would be prohibited from selling false indicators of social media influence, like fake followers or views. The proposed rule also would bar anyone from buying such indicators to misrepresent their importance for a commercial purpose.

If and when the new FTC rule goes into effect, some bogus reviews will continue to find ways onto review sites. Consumers should consult multiple sources and use reviews as part of the information for making a decision.

Megan: As you know, some new state laws and regulations are going to take effect in Florida. What do you see as your role as mayor navigating these? Mayor Trantalis: Many of them have to do with education so, as Mayor, we are not involved with the education system, but to the extent that there is an attempt to try to prescribe conduct in public places; the city of Fort Lauderdale is not going to inhibit anyone from their freedom of speech or their freedom of assembly. We embrace the amount of activity and the kinds of activity that takes place in our city. As Mayor, I encourage people to come to Fort Lauderdale, be their authentic selves, and don't think anyone is going to try to inhibit their actions or their conduct. Megan: What do you see as some of the strengths of the Fort Lauderdale community that run counter to some of this rhetoric that we have been hearing? Mayor Trantalis: The diversity of our community is our strength and no government at the federal level, state level, county level, or at any level, is going to inhibit anyone from expressing themselves—and, to be able to do so in a way that allows people to be their authentic selves. This alone is a barrier to the oppressive tactics that have been coming from Tallahassee. I spent the last 30 years participating in the Equal Rights Movement, trying to establish laws to erase barriers and to ensure equality for all groups. And, I do not expect to see any of those successes to be overturned. You know, the LGBTQ community is going to stand their ground and is not going to let anybody interfere with their way of living. I don't think any group should feel inhibited whether they be part of the LGBTQ community, the African American community, the Latin community, or any community that comes here to enjoy the lifestyle that we've all come to appreciate. Megan: I know that Pride month is a time of celebration, but I did read that the Port St. Lucie and St. Cloud communities canceled their celebrations out of fear of unintentionally breaking a new law that makes it a third

degree felony to have a child present at “an adult live performance.” What do you make of this reaction? Mayor Trantalis: Well, shame on them. There is no reason why they should have self-imposed this prohibition. There is no law today that stops these events from happening. There's a law that says you should not engage in lewd and lascivious behavior. Well, that has always been the law so that is nothing new. So sometimes, I wonder whether these organizations decided to cancel their celebrations out of fear or because they just were disorganized and could not get their event to happen, notwithstanding any laws passed this year in Tallahassee. Megan: What are your goals moving forward? What would you like to see changed or improved by Pride Month 2024? Mayor Trantalis: The attitude within the LQBTQ community to make sure that we all feel comfortable with our quality of life and that we are strong enough to do what it takes to prevent anyone who is looking to interfere or change that. Megan: And, lastly, is there anything I haven't asked that you would like to share with me? Mayor Trantalis: You know, just simply put, there will always be attempts by political opportunists to try to denigrate a group or two in order to advance their political careers. We have seen it throughout history, and whether you are gay, Jewish, or Black, there is always a minority that seems a ripe opportunity to denigrate in order to stand on them and trample upon them to gain some political advantage, only because of fear and jealousy and self-interest. But, in the end, those efforts fail. So, anyone who is looking to gain political advantage to try to denigrate the LGBTQ community is going to fail. It always does, and it will again. That's why I think no one should feel disheartened or disappointed or despondent in what they hear, but rather it should give them strength and courage to continue to move forward and to feel good about themselves. I think the rallying call is there and I think we are going to respond in a very strong way.

First, the sun beat down. Then came dark clouds and torrential rain. But it couldn’t douse the passion of thousands of activists determined to make their voices heard and their presence felt. The We The People March was held Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale and brought together more than fifty groups with various missions for one important cause: civil rights. The rally, organized by AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation), was a response to legislation, proposed and passed in 44 states this year, targeting LGBTQIA+, Brown and Black people, women, and more. “I’m here in the community to support everyone,” Josie Malave-Smith, owner of Bubbles & Pearls on Wilton Drive, told OutClique. “I’m the generation that’s been marching for decades.” Groups included Safe Schools South Florida, SunServe, PRISM, League of Women Voters, Florida Rising, and

others. The goal is to unite allies who, despite serving different segments of the community, are under attack by social conservatives who have passed laws limiting everything from drag entertainment, women’s health, trans health, and more. A broad range of SunServe’s clients, from trans care to youth services, are affected by the laws. SunServe had a large contingent on hand for the march, and CEO Tony Lima told OutClique, “This is the most important initiative we could all, as a community, be a part of right now. SunServe mobilized an army of 100 supporters to join our team for the day to March and make it known that we’ve had enough. The fight is officially on!” The drag ban, which a court has put on hold, is especially threatening beyond the drag community itself. The Imperial Sun Court of All Florida (ISCOAF) is a dragcentric organization that raises money for other charities. ISCOAF Reigning Emperor Eric Lipson said, “We are here to stand with all the marginalized communities and

fight as one unit to win this war. We raise money for the community. It has a direct impact on our work and we need to fight to be there.”

“It’s important for us to recognize that Gen-Z is the next generation taking up the mantle. It’s important to show up in every space we’re impacted.”

Much of the focus was on standing up for the next generation of LGBTQIA+. “My little niece and nephew, who can’t be here today and aren’t able to vote, I’m here for them,” Malave-Smith said. PRISM works on youth health, and founder Maxx Fenning told OutClique,

AHF’s Ebonni Chrispin organized South Florida’s rally (several similar events were held over the weekend in other cities as well). She says the laws being passed by Republican-led legislatures across the country lack empathy. “They’re unkind. They don’t consider everyone’s

way of life or what they’re struggling with. They don’t consider personal autonomy. And so AHF wanted to spearhead to help other organizations organize. But most importantly, we wanted to unify so we can be in action and create strategy.” Author: John Hayden

What happens next? The goal is for all groups to use momentum from The We The People March to organize ahead of next year’s elections for president, a Florida senate seat, and make gains in Tallahassee and deprive conservative Republicans of their supermajority. Photos Courtesy of SRL Media

Wilton’s Manor Pampers Pooches Getting a blowout, having your nails done, and socializing with friends by the pool, there’s nothing better than a spa day. But this day out also comes with a healthy dose of sniffing the other customers and chasing them around. Wilton’s Manor is a doggie daycare, resort, and spa that has tongues and tails wagging. Josh Meneses and Alan Aghazadian opened their pet paradise eleven years ago at 2155 N. Dixie Hwy. in Wilton Manors, a manifestation of their lifelong love of dogs. “You’re either a dog lover or you're not, and we are. We’ve had dogs our whole lives,” Aghazadian told OutClique.

The moment you step inside you are greeted by a playful pack of smaller dogs who rush up to the edge of their giant playpen to see who’s coming in next. The excitement is electric and you know for sure that in this place, dogs rule. “Small dogs do great,” Aghazadian said. “They’re inside with mostly other dogs their size. Sometimes we have a big dog in there that thinks it’s a small dog so it’s kinda fun to watch that happen.” Unlike some kennels, this is not a place to warehouse your dog for a day or a week. Wilton’s Manor is a

Michael Cote Sells South Florida South Florida may not be known for its seasons, but ask any local and they’ll tell you that you can mark the beginning of winter when the license plates begin changing colors. Each year more Canadians are making their annual pilgrimage south and even more are deciding to stay. “They spend the winter with us,” explains real estate agent, Michael Cote, “and then they go back and tell their friends about me.” Cote, a French Canadian who has called Florida home for the last 13 years, began his real estate career with Keller Williams and is now an agent with Coldwell Banker Realty. Ever since, he has been helping other expats find their place in the sun. “They want to deal with another French Canadian who can relate to them,” he says. “Also, I know where a lot of French-speaking people hang out, what their hobbies are, and which restaurants are Frenchowned, so I can guide them to those areas so that they meet other snowbirds.” After a visit to Miami in his 20’s, Cote knew he was destined for Florida, but he had to be strategic. “It definitely wasn't easy to get here,” he recalls. “I built my career in Canada for TD Bank. I worked with them for ten years. At one point, I was in charge of Northeast Ontario.” While in charge of the ‘Rewards and Recognition’ program for top performers, his company sent him to Boca Raton. “I stayed here for three months,” he recalls. "I had the opportunity to meet the Florida executives during my stay and was offered a position in Hallandale opening a branch in a predominantly French-Canadian market. It made a lot of sense for me to be on the ground here,” he explains.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cote’s branch held the number one title in the country for the first three years. “When people are coming from Canada, they need someone on this end to receive them and help guide them. I was part of the cross-border program where you could open bank accounts and get loans in the U.S. even though you didn't have a social security number.” From 2015 to 2020 Cote was President and CEO of Natbank, a subsidiary of National Bank of Canada. Then in February of 2020, his contract was up. “When we went to renew, I decided to make the jump into real estate so I left the bank and retired. The timing was good, it helped me just slow down, and for the first time since I was fourteen, I wasn't working and then I jumped into real estate.” While he may be somewhat new to the real estate world, it’s his varied experience that has made him successful. “I've run a multi-million dollar company,” Cote says referring to his time at Natbank, “and I've done underwriting and lending. I've been a loan officer, I did business development and small business investing and lending, as well. So, by dealing a lot with entrepreneurs, I have an understanding of how the loan process works,” he adds. “I can tell if the loan officer made a mistake and identify potential pitfalls. I know the language, I know the lingo, so that really allows us to get more deals done.” As for the state of the current real estate market, “Property is a sure investment,” he says. “You either buy now for $500,000 or buy in a year for $525,000,” adding, “rates are high, yes, but you marry your house, you just date the rates, so refinance later.”

Bouvèé Babble Florida Pride, Keeping the Rainbow

Pride season is over, but my personal experience warrants mentioning. I will say it. I had more freedom and fun in Key West than in my own home. The city of Key West itself declared the municipality a “welcoming city” for all, including drag queens. I was encouraged to get on the stage and sing and dance. I even danced in the street and saw many of my professional drag sisters out promoting and performing. What’s more is that the locals, as well as the tourists, were overly supportive. The city is not a place, it is a vibe. They pursued freedom and empowerment for the drag performers that single handedly fuel the economy for many of the bars and spaces there. Wilton Manors should have been the example, but in the end, it was Key West for me.

pulling out of Orlando for reasons of “not wanting to give DeSantis any more of our money”. This, in my opinion, is a dangerous stance to take. I am hard pressed to find the times in the last two decades when and where boycotts actually work! They take large scale and consistent execution to really have an impact. When it comes down to it folks, DeSantis gets an average of 7% (state tax is 6% with local taxes varying). The other 93% goes to us, the queer owned businesses of your choice in this red state. It’s that simple. He is termed out and cannot run as governor in a few years; if you don’t come now, it's not just him who will be gone when you decide to come back to Florida. It will be the small business that were queer owned trying to fight.

Am I thrilled with my local Wilton business and bar owners here? No. Do I respect our local leaders for the position everyone was in? Sure. Drag and cabaret are a central part of our economy here in Wilton. Being one of the few performers who live in the drag and cabaret world, it was easy to point fingers locally and to not feel supported by my employers and my community. However, I must now turn the finger out of state.

Come to Florida; invade by the thousands and millions. We have value and worth! So do you! The pink dollar supporting the pink dollar is an essential part of the rainbow economy. Since when has political oppression been a new thing to our community? It should not immobilize us, it should motivate us. Book that ticket now and support your LGBTQI+ family trying to thrive under the oppression of this state and simply pay their employees, feed their families, and bring you joy through their business.

I recently read an article about a few conventions

Lipstick Lightning round Q. Now that you’ve filmed “Big Easy Queens”, what is next? A. I am working on the development of a new film called “Fiddler’s Green”. I can’t wait to share details about it. Q. What is your favorite part about performing with Jennifer McClain? A. She makes me laugh, genuinely. Aside from her musical talent, she really is one of the few who can make me break character or focus on stage in real time. Q. You recently published info on a ton of cruises, which

one are you most excited about? A. I am excited for all of them, but the Mediterranean cruise in June has me SUPER excited. Q. Favorite restaurant locally? A. I have so many! 9F, Serafina, Seawatch, and when I just want really good hushpuppies, Catfish Dewey’s. Q. Favorite drink? A. Since starting the intermittent fasting (6 weeks at the time of writing), wine. Specifically, a good Sauvignon Blanc.

An Interview with the Glamorous

Antonio Edwards

In addition to being a professional singer in Wilton Manors and the musical director for Fort Lauderdale’s Center for Spiritual Living, Antonio Edwards is also a title-winning pageant contestant and has several crowns to wear. He most recently won Mr. Glamorous 2023.

makes me stand out, just in terms of who I am, and this is not to say anyone else isn't this way, I can only speak for myself. I'm extremely approachable, honest, and this is going to sound cheesy, but I'm a super nice guy. I truly think that resonates with people.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Edwards has always desired to pursue a career in entertainment. Not only does he use his platform to showcase his talents, but he has a strong focus on giving back to the community and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Denny Patterson: You said you’ve always wanted to be on stage in terms of performing. Has this always been your passion? Antonio Edwards: Absolutely. I have a shirt that says music is my life because it really is. I can’t imagine my life without music.

Edwards took some time to answer some questions for OutClique. Denny Patterson: Hi, Antonio! You are a former Mr. Florida, Mr. Gay America, Mr. Gay USA, Mr. Continental, and you most recently won Mr. Glamorous 2023. How meaningful has it been to win all these titles, and how did you fall into the world of pageantry? Antonio Edwards: It's been very meaningful. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and I started off as a backup dancer for Dieta Pepsi and other Missouribased queens. I always wanted to be on stage in terms of performing, but I never wanted to be a female impersonator. The person that I refer to as my pageant mother, Vicki Vincent, she’s a former Miss Gay America, she said, hey, they have pageants for boys. I was like, really? I had no idea. So, that's how I got started. In terms of it being meaningful, I knew that I was a vocalist, but other people only knew me as a dancer. It has been very meaningful to receive accolades for something that I knew I had a talent in. Denny Patterson: To win so many titles, there's obviously something about you that the judges love. What do you think makes you unique and stand out from the other contestants? Antonio Edwards: That's hard to say because you never know the other contestants personally. I think what made me stand out recently in terms of Mr. Glamorous is the fact that I will be 58 in September. The person that was nearest to me might have been 40. I think that kind of made me stand out because I was a more seasoned contestant. I was competing with people that were literally in their 20s, and they either saw me as a seasoned competitor or not a threat. I guess it depends on who you ask. I think what

Denny Patterson: Where in Wilton Manors do you perform regularly? Antonio Edwards: I do a happy hour show at Georgie’s Alibi every Monday from 6:15-8:15 PM, and I have a regular Thursday night performance at The Pub from 7:30-9:30 PM. I'm also the music director at my church, which is the Center for Spiritual Living. Denny Patterson: Are you working on anything original right now? Antonio Edwards: I am! There are two things I’m working on. I’ve wanted to do a Christmas album my entire life, so I’m working on it now because Christmas sneaks up on me every year. Then I’m like, I really should have done a Christmas album (laughs). So, I’m doing that, and then I’m working on an EP, which will be a short album of maybe five or six original tracks. Denny Patterson: As the Center for Spiritual Living Fort Lauderdale’s music director, how has the church influenced your love for singing? Antonio Edwards: Wow, another great question. Growing up in St. Louis, my father was a Baptist minister, my grandfather was a Baptist minister, my grandmother was the choir director, my mother was the lead vocalist, and two of my brothers are ministers. So, I grew up singing in church my whole life, but once I came out as gay, I kind of felt like the church would not support me, or I couldn't go to the church and display my talents. Becoming an adult, I discovered that there are churches out there that do accept gay people. That inspired me to go somewhere where, not only to express myself vocally and showcase my talents, but I can also receive a message, and that’s very important to me.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

Exhibit Dates: July 14th - September 11th, 2023 Opening Reception: July 21st, 2023, 6-9PM

Original Artwork by Marilyn Johansen

VETERAN’S EXHIBITION:

HistoryMiami Museum Presents Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids Larger than life creatures will fill the galleries at HistoryMiami Museum for its newest exhibition Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids opening July 8, 2023, at the downtown Smithsonian Affiliate. The exhibition traces the natural and cultural roots of some of the world’s most enduring mythological creatures from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and beyond, and even how Miamians embrace their own mythic fantasies. Organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, visitors to the exhibition will come face-to-face with a 17-foot-long dragon with a wingspan of over 19 feet, a giant Kraken sea monster with 12-foot-long tentacles rising from the gallery floor, and a 10-foot-long unicorn, capturing the imagination of every child. For centuries, humans have brought mythic creatures to life in stories, music, and works of art. On display are cultural objects from around the world including paintings, models, textiles, Chinese shadow puppets and Greek coins, that bring to light surprising similarities and differences in the ways cultures have been inspired by nature to depict and explain these unique and imaginative creatures. After all, it was Pliny the Elder, who in 77 CE, asserted that mermaids were “no fabulous tale,” and current sightings of Scotland’s renowned, but unsubstantiated Loch Ness Monster, continue to this day. From around the world to our own backyard, a companion exhibition called Mythic Miami features tales of the fantastical creatures inhabiting our waters, forests, and

skies. Lasting stories of Caribbean mermaids, the Chupacabra from Puerto Rico, and Florida’s own Skunk Ape have fascinated Miamians for generations, while newly uncovered creatures make us imagine what else could be out there. Mythic Miami brings to life the stories and artifacts that give us a glimpse into the worlds of these extraordinary creatures. Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids highlights also include: a 120-foot-long Chinese parade dragon, used in New York City’s Chinatown; a replica “Feejee mermaid,” of the type made famous by showman P. T. Barnum, created by sewing the head and torso of a monkey to the tail of a fish; and four tremendous, “lifesize” models of mythical creatures: an 11-foot-long Roc with large, sharp talons swooping above the heads of visitors with a wingspan of nearly 20 feet; plus two actual life-size models—an over-6-foot-tall, extinct primate called Gigantopithecus; and the largest bird ever to have lived, the over-9-foot-tall, extinct Aepyornis. The exhibition offers numerous interactive stations and activities including rearranging scale models of mammoth bones to look like a giant human skeleton and Protoceratops bones to look like a griffin skeleton. Visitors can build their own dragon in an engaging touch-screen interactive and watch it come alive before their eyes in a virtual environment. Videos include interviews with experts in various fields discussing the significance of mythical creatures and their possible real-life counterparts.

ARRIVAL from Sweden

The Music of ABBA ABBA isn’t just a music group. As Sweden’s biggest music export ever, it sold nearly 400 million records, had its music fuel the Broadway musical Mamma Mia and its two movie spinoffs, launched the band-specific Play Station Sing Star games, and even has its own museum in Stockholm. As any fan can tell you, if you are going to stage a concert celebrating ABBA, you better be a Super Trouper, “Shining like the sun, smiling, having fun, feeling like a number one.” Vicky Zetterberg, a longtime fan who has seen ABBA in concert five times, knows that from experience. In an interview with the Ames Tribune before a show in Iowa, Zetterberg recalled seeing an ABBA tribute band that was so terrible she decided to create ARRIVAL from Sweden: The Music of ABBA, which comes to The Parker on September 7, 2023.

been given a previously unreleased ABBA song directly from Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. The song “Just A Notion” was released by ARRIVAL from Sweden in 1999 prior to ABBA recording it for its own Voyage release. Zetterberg also received exclusive permission to have costumes that are actual recreations of the original wardrobes worn by ABBA. The costumes are just part of ARRIVAL from Sweden which delivers such hits as “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Does Your Mother Know,” “Take A Chance,” “SOS,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Super Trouper,” “Money Money Money,” “Waterloo,” “Honey Honey,” “Fernando,” “Chiquitita,” “Thank You For The Music,” “Lay All Your Love On Me” and “Gimme Gimme Gimme.”

“The group was from Australia, and they spoke in a bad, fake Swedish accent,” she said. “We looked into every detail of an ABBA show. There are a lot of ABBA bands that are out there, of which 99% are really bad, but ours are handpicked.”

ARRIVAL from Sweden has toured in more than 70 countries, including 82 successful USA tours, as well as made appearances on TV and radio shows all over the world. With 10 to 12 musicians on stage, the concert features consummate musicians who have performed with more than 100 symphony orchestras including those in Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta.

ARRIVAL from Sweden is so authentic the ABBA-fan club has declared it, “the closest you will ever get to ABBA.” Zetterberg’s group has also impressed the original members of ABBA as well. It is the only group that has

PRESENTS…

with Billy PorTer September 21, 2023 | 6:00 – 10:00 PM The Venue, 2345 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors Some are trendsetters, some are household names, but few are one-of-a-kind, agents of change making us better people by addressing our fears of those who are different. Through his courage and fearlessness, the one and only Billy Porter is such a person, with the extraordinary talent backing it up. When books and education are under threat in a growing number of states and regions across the USA, when Black and LGBTQ+ history and culture are under attack, who better than the brilliant and defiant, Billy Porter to stand up and lead us in the right direction. Join Stonewall for a night filled with music, dancing, food and fun in support of Stonewall’s programs including SNEP, the decades old education program making sure that our most marginalized students not only have a safe and welcoming school environment, but that our history and culture will be taught. The time is now to stand with Billy and Stonewall and let your voice be heard. Sponsorship opportunities are available at all levels.
