DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS If there’s one film to look forward to, it’s the animated fantasy Cats (20/12), based on the musical of the same name, which in turn was based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. It is directed by Tom Hooper in his second musical film following Les Misérables, written by Lee Hall and Hooper, choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. It stars James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, and introduces Francesca Hayward in her first feature-length film role.

Also released on 20 December is the much-anticipated Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (also known as Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker), an epic space-opera film produced, co-written, and directed by J.
