Skin So Simple: At-Home Skinformation
VOTE…Early Voting October 17th & Election Day November 8th
Elect Jasper Watkins III
By Lisa Clinkscale Porter, Aesthetician Don’t you just love how your skin looks right after a great facial? The key to maintaining healthy skin is to do your part at home in between beauty treatments. The goal is to ensure that each facial progresses your skin to the next step, as opposed to starting over each time. This means that you will need to have the appropriate products at home and to know the steps you need to have a great daily regimen. The actual products needed for your at-home skin care plan should be customized just for you, which means it’s probably time to clean out the bathroom cabinets. Having a bunch of products is one thing, but having the right products for your skin and actually using them a.m. and p.m. can make all the difference. You should have a five step daily plan in order to cleanse, prevent, resurface/treat, hydrate, and protect your skin, twice daily. Cleanser removes dirt, debris, impurities, and make-up from the pores while allowing the skin to be more receptive to the other steps in your regimen. Using a toner or astringent next removes any excess cleanser and brings the skin’s pH balance back to normal right away. This step is referred to as the “prevention” step because it lifts and tightens the skin, therefore slowing down the aging process. The next step is to address the current condition of your skin, which I call the resurface and treat step because it gives the skin clarity. These are the products used to correct/repair your skin. Afterward, a water based moisturizer is applied to provide hydration. Finally, we all need to use a SPF15 sun protection or higher every morning that contains antioxidants and provides UVA/UVB protection. Remember, the first thing people see when they look at you is your face. How does your skin look? Lisa Clinkscale Porter is owner of Unique Face Options, Inc.
