Key Learnings from Tony, QI Patient Partner in Leeds I am a QI Patient Partner with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Drawn to this conference by the desire to learn about possible ways to mitigate climate crisis despair and promote sustainability, in the current national context of seeming retreat. The needs of the person, who is patient, can only be met sustainably if we pivot to a co-creative nurture of the person, locality, region, planet and cosmos. Not only are birds at risk of extinction; all animals are as well. Of course, homo sapiens are animals. Look. This affects us as a species. Keep faith with your belief system, despite challenges. It is about using your gift to promote sustainable and complete design. Things which matter most of all cannot be counted. They are felt/sensed; they sustain the spirit, as they provide purpose. Tribal association with others is central to sustainability. Whilst virtual interaction can reduce resource demands, it does not always create interactional value, because homo sapiens are social beings and function most fully when they use all their senses synthetically, bodily. Consequently, careful discernment is essential. It is in the spirit that we find purpose. The concept of contagious paradigm shift emerged from the event: I love it

Get Involved! OUR PEOPLE, OUR PLANET 2024 The virtual Our People, Our Planet event is set to return in autumn 2024 – be part of it! The climate emergency is a health emergency: drivers of climate change are drivers of ill health. The sheer size and scale of our healthcare system provides countless opportunities for more environmentally sustainable ways of working. Let’s continue to learn from each other and spread what works, on a national scale. We’re on the lookout for presenters to feature in the next event. It’s a great opportunity to raise the profile of your work, inspire others and avoid peers reinventing the wheel. You’ll also be able to extend your professional networks. If you are part of any projects to improve environmental sustainability in a healthcare setting we’d love to hear from you. Please contact: nicola.lowe@somersetft.nhs.uk Thank you and see you next year!
