TRADITION
Oxford University Rugby Football Club (OURFC), established in 1869, is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious rugby clubs. Representing the University of Oxford, OURFC competes at the highest level of university rugby, with its men ’ s and women ’ s teams showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship. The club is renowned for its historic Varsity Match against Cambridge University, held annually, drawing significant media attention and a large audience.

The club is unique within the University of Oxford: it has its own pitch, pavilion, gym, and training facilities located on Iffley Road. The community aspect of the club is what makes it special, with players, both undergraduate and postgraduate, coaching staff and alumni all working in tandem towards a unifying goal: to win the Varsity Match.

OURFC is proud to continually increase the exposure of Rugby to the entire University and local community. The club runs a robust and engaging College programme, enabling all players at Oxford University to take part in the annual ‘Cuppers’ competition. At OURFC, we pride ourselves on ensuring that all players have an opportunity to reach the highest level of University sport, notably through our ‘Fresher-to-Blue’ programme, which provides a realistic pathway for movement up the ladder across university rugby. Both the men ’ s and women ’ s teams have three competetive teams, each with their own Varsity match. These include the Blues (1st XV), the Panthers/Greyhounds (2nd XV), and the Pumas/Whippets (3rd XV).
