Duration of Study

Entry Requirements

The PhD takes 4 academic years (12 semesters) while the Master’s Degree takes 2 academic years (6 semesters) to complete.

Doctor of Philosophy (Science) • Master’s Degree in Science or it equivalent.

Application Application is open throughout the year for all programmes. However, intakes are on a semester basis in January, May and September. Part 1: Self Improvement Each candidate will be required to take the following courses: • Research Methodology • Advanced Doctorial Seminar in Science and Mathematics • And one or two of the following courses: - Applied statistics - Multi variance analysis - Non-parametric statistics

Part 1: Self Improvement Students will attend a course on research methodology in science and one of the following courses depending on their requirement: • Applied statistics • Multi variance analysis • Non-parametric statistics

Part 2: Research Candidates are expected to participate in independent research under the guidance of an academic supervisor or supervisors appointed by the Faculty. Students may conduct research in their own laboratory / premise through self managed learning guided by the supervisors. Each candidate must meet the assigned supervisors at least 4 times in each semester.

The candidate will be examined in the ‘Viva Voce’ session.

SELF-MANAGED LEARNING

Where learners study independently according to their time availability.

ON-LINE LEARNING

Electronic communication tools such as e-mail, bulletin board and chat rooms are provided to facilitate interaction among learners, tutors and facilitators.

FACE-TO-FACE INTERACTION

Face-to-face tutorial sessions are conducted at Learning Centres during weekends or after office hours.

They are also required to complete a Master’s seminar and an advanced Master’s seminar.
