YOUR ACADEMIC DREAM TEAM: ACADEMIC DEANS & ADVISORS

Your dean’s office and your academic advisor are your first points of contact for academic questions. All of Ouachita’s deans are active classroom teachers in addition to their administrative roles, so they know where you are coming from. Your academic advisor will be a full-time faculty member from your area of study, as well. They understand how important it is for you to make timely progress toward your degree. You will see your advisor throughout the year to help with class schedules, degree plans and future opportunities.

WE CARE ABOUT YOUR WELL-BEING.

Physically: ON-CAMPUS HEALTH SERVICES ARE READY.

Ouachita’s Health Services office is a free, nurse-directed walk-in clinic available to students. The clinic offers health evaluations for minor illnesses, over-the-counter medications, wellness resources and minor injury care, among other services. Flu shots, allergy shots and a Tuberculosis skin test are offered for a minimal fee. Dr. Wesley Kluck, university physician, is available for an additional fee to see students by appointment.

Emotionally: COUNSELING SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE.

Counseling services are available to help students with a range of mental health challenges – from test anxiety and dealing with stress to grieving the loss of a loved one or depression, among others. One-on-one and group sessions with staff counselors Dan Jarboe, Sue Poole or KaNeil Purifoy are available, in addition to online screenings and resources. Jarboe also coordinates ADA 504 accommodations for students with disabilities; see details at obu.edu/ada.

LIVING THE RES LIFE: YOUR RESOURCES FOR LIVING ON CAMPUS

At Ouachita, we do life together. With 95% of Ouachita students living on campus, students are surrounded by opportunities to know one another and be known, and our residential life program is the prime example. To ensure that students’ experiences in our residence halls and apartments are positive, trained Residence Life staff members are available to listen to students’ struggles and resolve concerns, but also just to be a good friend and mentor. Residence halls are staffed by resident directors, and a student resident assistant coordinates each floor.
