Physician, wife, mother - Dr. Frances Keller Harding, was the daughter of two physicians. Her early years were spent in New Zealand where her mother was the first surgeon. Dr. Harding received her B.S. from Walla Walla College, M.D. from Loma Linda University , and the L.R.C.P. and S. from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Edinburg, Scotland.
With her husband, Dr. Warren G. Harding, 11, she traveled to Australia where she founded the first Family Planning clinic. Upon returning to America in 1941, she pursued an active interest in Family Planning and medical gynocology in the Student Health Clinic at the Ohio State University. She has lectured extensively on the subject at major colleges and universities and her publications are extensive.
Dr. Harding holds membership in numerous educational and professional organizations; six years as a National Trustee for Planned Parenthood World Population; charter member of Siecus ; chairman of the Metropolitan Health Council; president of the Ohio State Health Education Committee; in 1952 named Woman of the Year by Branch 12 of the American Medical Association while serving as president; in 1958-1960 president of the Columbus Club of Zonta International.
In 1972, Dr. Harding was elected president of the American Medical Women's Association. In 1975 she was the recipient of the Elizabeth Blackwell Award for Outstanding Service to Mankind given by Hobart and William Smith College.
She is the proud mother of Florence Elsie Hiscock, M.D . ; Carolyn Harding Motzel, D.D.S.; and Peter Martin Harding, M.D .
For her contributions to her community, profession and to mankind, Otterbein College is proud to honor Dr. Frances Harding with the degree of Doctor of Humanities.
Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg is known as a nuclear chemist, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, and educator.
As a chemist, Dr. Seaborg codiscovered chemical elements 94 through 102 during the period from 1940 through 1958. His discovery with the greatest impact on the world would be that of plutonium, the explosive ingredient in nuclear weapons and the element which will play a central role in nuclear power in the future. Dr. Seaborg also discovered the radioactive isotopes: iodine-131, cobolt-60 and technetium-99 ; which account for 90% of all radioactive isotopes admini stered in hospitals for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. In 1951, Glenn Seaborg was awarded with E. M. McMillan the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work in the discovery of transuranium elements.
Dr . Sea borg received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Be rkeley in 1937 and has been associated with the University since that time with the exception of the period from 1942-46 when he was involved with work at the University of Chicago and from 1961-71 when he was in Washington as Chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission. In an interview published in the February, 1975 issue of the Journal of Chemical Education, Dr. Seaborg indicated that his personal and non-technical interests had opened opportunities for him. Thus, his inte rests in athletics led to his appointment as the Berkeley campus Faculty Athletic Representative to the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He felt that as a result of his activities as the Faculty Athletic Representative, he was appointed Chancellor of the Berkel ey campus at the University of California from 1958-61 and the latter activities and service probably led to his appointment as Chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission from 1961-71.
In 1971 , Dr. Seaborg returned to the University of California at Berkeley as Director of Nuclear Chemical Research and Associate Director of the Lawrence, Berkeley Laboratory. Dr . Seaborg believes that research and teaching go together and he teaches freshman chemistry sections today at the same time as he directs a major research facility. Dr Seaborg will serve as President-elect and then as President of the American Chemical Society during 197 5 and 1976.
Dr . Seaborg has been honored by professional organizations, governments, universities and colleges around the world We honor him today for his contribution to science , education and public service.
For his many and significant contributions to the body of scientific research and knowledge , Otterbein College is proud to bestow a degree of Doctor of Public Service on Glenn T . Seaborg.
Pr sident Eisenhower once said that educat i on is not only lh means for earni ng a living, but for en l argi ng life. His words are especia lly appropriate for t h ose w ho complete coll ge Your generat ion ' s candor, se nsi t ivity and desire for er ative involvement are heartening si g ns that you will b doing more than just earning a living .
You ar graduat in g in a particularly diffi c ult year. You will be fac d with many uncertainties . B ut the opportunities that await you are even gre ater than the ch all e n ge s. It will ind d b within your gr asp to enlarge an d enrich life in our soci ty . As you make the decisions th a t w ill shape your course and that of your country, I hope yo u w ill keep in mind that one person can make a difference
Times have changed greatly since I we n t t o college. But looking back on those days in the context o f t o day ' s w orld, I know that the same optimism and ho p e I shared w ith my classmates is very m uch alive in you tod a y . I want you to know how much I admire your enthusiasm and determination, and how convinc ed I am that you wi ll m a ke a difference for America
I wish each of you the satisfaction th a t come s f r om do i ng your best at some th ing you believe in

In a quiet peaceful village, there is one we love so true , She ever gives a welcome to her friends both old and new. She stands serene 'mid tree tops green , She's our dear Otterbein.
(Chorus)
Old Otterbein our college, we sing of thee today; Our memories round thee linger , in a sweet and mystic way . 0 Otterbein, we love thee, our hearts are only thine , We pledge anew, we will be true, dear Otterbein.
