Jacoby served a a hu ky quarter-back. Other backfield men were Barne , Endsley, Minnich , Hankin on, and Gordon.

In the Fro h-Soph grid cla ic "Jew" Crawford was elected cap­ tain. Hankin on's line plunging ex­ cited no little comment. Drexel and Minnich, a halfback , were fast men who could both run and pas . orri and Reck were no mean tackles. In Pinney and Reigle the Frosh boa ted of two good end . The fr es hman squad lorded it over the ophomor~ by the score of 6-0, thu deciding Scrap Day in their favor.

To the Frosh football quad there i generally given the lea t amount of credit when it is di tributed at the end of t he eason. But the Frosh sq uad mean more than j u t that. Where do Varsity men of the future come from? Who give the Varsity some of their most trenucus scrimmage ?

Coach Edler.

This fall, for the first time in the -history of the college, Otterbein boasted of a paid coach for the fresh­ man quad , in the person of "Deke" Edler, who graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1919, came to us with a splendid reco rd as an athlete, having thrice attained to All-Ohio hon ors, in footba ll , in basketball, and in baseball.

In addition to his extensi ve exper­ ience as a player and his ability to teach football to green men , Coach Edler possesses that fine type of mag­ netic personality which inspires co­ operation and the determination to put forth their best efforts in the members of his sq uad.

"Deke" has give n us good stuff, and we hope to see him on Otterbein field again next fall.

Coach Troop The 1924 sea so n also marks the comp letion of fi ve years of service in Otterbein football activities for Coach Troop. Troop was a valued men1ber of the varsity quad for the three years prior to his graduation , and last yea r he took charge of the fres hman team. This fall, when Coach Edler assumed the latter re ponsibilit~ Troop, nothing daunted, shifted his ac tivities to the varsity line. Hi hard work and splendid spirit made -hi m a va luable asset to the coaching taff.

Troop received no compensation for hi se rvi ces. Loyalty to his Alma Mater was the spirit behind his ef­ forts. He exemplifies the fine t type of Otterbein pirit, and gives to us an example which we may well et up as our ideal.
