A s a pub lic speaker h e has a pleasing ap­ pearance and an excell ent d elive ry. Hi s addr ess was of th e philosophical t y p e but was mad e ext reri1ely inte r ­ es ting by b e in g shad d with a·ppro­ priate humor and joke . Hi s philoso phy is not to b e judged by th e chap el talk as h e did not hav e time to full y expla in him self. Th e main thought of his address was that of edu ca tion . H e explained clearly that education consists chi efly of kn owing the laws of the univ er se and in fashioning one's life afte r them. Two cla sses of laws were m e nti oned nam ely, ph ysical and moral. J es us C hri st was th e framer of th e sp iritua l law s as was shown by th e spea ker. The bulk of the address, however, was fram ed upon th e ex­ plana tion of th e thr ee great qualities of th e univ ers e. Opening Number of Lyceum Course Proves Very Enjoyable-Orchestra Is Directed by Miss Stolosski. The Ro u manian Orchestra, which appeared in th e chapel \ V cdn esday eve ning a th e fi r t numb er of th e Citiz en's L yce um Cour se, furni sh ed a very high clas s ente rtainm ent and le ft with th e audi e n ce a feeling of su ch complet sa ti s fa ction and en­ joyment a s is not o ft en attainab le. Th e co mpan y consisted of seven tal­ ented mus ician s, the six m e mb ers of th e o r ch estra prope r an d Miss Med­ ley, th e soprano oloist. The vio lini st a nd dire ctor, Miss Sto losski, di sp layed excep tional abil ­ ity and originality. The audience becam e enthus iasti c ove r h er selec­ tions and four times compell ed h er to a n swe r encor es. It is inter es ting to kn ow that s h e used no numb e rs Wedn esday even ing which sh e has not previously played for Columbia and Victor r eco rd s. Mr. Leak, at the xy lophon e and drums, proved him­ self v er y versatile and skill ful. His xylophon e numb er s gave a v ery pl easing variety to th e ente rtainment. Th e solo ist, Miss Medley, us ed good cl ea r ton es and showed h er self capab le of clear interpreta tion . The popular so ngs whi ch she used as en­ cores mad e the program varied and w ell-balance d. Speakin g Council Organizes. Otterbein's Public Speaking Coun­ cil h e ld its first meeting for th e year las t w ee k, main ly for t h e purpose of organization . T h e o ffi cers elected are: a s fo llows: President, Rob ert E .. K lin e; vice president, E . L. Doty ; secretary, Grace M. Armentrour: tr easur er, Audrey Ne lson. Professors Altman, Fritz and Snavely were nam ed as fa culty memb ers of the co uncil. The organization a s yet has done no thing defini te but plans ar e being laid and th ey will doubtl ess be h eard from in th e near future. A d ebate schedu le has been made of which an­ noun ce m ent will be mad e later.
