Ron Prehogan named chair of Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation By Benita Baker When a client asked Ron Prehogan to join the board of the Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) Foundation, he immediately said yes. “It was the right thing to do,” said Prehogan. “I felt the responsibility to do it.” Now, four years later, the Ottawa lawyer and distinguished community leader has been named the foundation’s chair. His two-year term begins at the tail end of Care Grows West, a $35 million fundraising campaign that included the creation of the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre with an $11 million donation from the Greenberg
family. As chair, Prehogan will oversee the closing stages of the campaign, with the goal of raising the remaining $5 million over the next year. This will be followed by a new and smaller fundraising campaign aimed at upgrading the hospital’s technology and equipment. Prehogan feels a special attachment to the QCH, which he describes as the underdog. “When the Ottawa community thinks of hospitals, they think of CHEO or the Ottawa Hospital,” he said. “The Queensway Carleton does not get the attention it deserves. What sets it apart is its focus on the patient. I hear that always
when I talk to people.” One of Prehogan’s main objectives as chair is to raise awareness of the hospital. Perceived for a long time as a small local hospital, the QCH has evolved into a significant healthcare institution, serving more than 400,000 people. “One of the most important things for me to do for the hospital is to let other people in the community see what I have seen in recent years,” said Prehogan. “QCH has gone from being a small community hospital to a major regional one while remaining true to its People First, Caring A lways roots.” Along with fellow board mem(Continued on page 2)

Federal minister visits Jewish Community Campus By Ilana Belfer Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Diane Finley toured the Joseph and Rose Ages Family Building housing the Soloway Jewish Community Centre (JCC), July 22, and used the occasion to call for proposals from community-based organizations seeking accessibility funding.
