Federation AGM addresses changing times By Michael Regenstreif Changing some of the ways established Jewish communal organizations operate in order to adapt to the needs of emerging generations in the 21st century was a theme struck by several speakers at the annual general meeting of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, held June 2 at the Joseph and Rose Ages Family Building.

“The world is changing. Our Jewish world, especially, is changing,” noted Federation Chair Donna Dolansky, adding that the Federation is determined to change and adapt to meet the challenges of the changing world and the needs of the emerging generation of young people in the community. Dolansky pointed to several

initiatives already launched by the Federation, including the re-establishment, this past year, of the Young Women’s Leadership Council, which is providing young women with training to assume leadership roles within the Federation and various community organizations; and a symposium for young adults to be held in spring 2011. Dolansky also pointed to the work being done to revitalize the community’s day and supplementary schools. Federation President and CEO Mitchell Bellman observed that Ottawa’s Jewish community is facing the same challenges of fighting assimilation, complacency and (Continued on page 2)
