Popular Christian Singer Jamie Grace Brings Best Friends Tour To A Fans Local Church

If you listen to contemporary Christian music, chances are you have heard one of Jamie Grace’s songs—her hits include: Hold Me featuring TobyMac, Beautiful Day and You Lead. The singer-songwriter stylistically weaves elements of pop, folk and hip-hop to fashion her unmistakable sound.

Grace is a two-time GRAMMY® Nominee and the 2012 GMA Dove Award’s ‘New Artist of the Year.’ In 2017, she released her third studio album, ’91, titled after her birth year.

Grace continues to garner fans through YouTube and her reality show, The Jamie Grace Show.

On Thursday, July 5, Grace fans have an opportunity to listen to her music live when her Best Friends Tour makes a stop at the Beit Tehila Community Church in Brandon. The concert begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Missionary And Book Author Nik Ripken To Speak At Bell Shoals As Part Of Series Earlier this year, Bell Shoals Baptist Church introduced First Wednesday Services featuring guest speakers, highenergy worship, prayer and applicable Bible teachings.

The special services begin at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center on its Brandon Campus.

On Wednesday, August 1, author Nik Ripken will speak about his 30 plus years as a missionary and up-close experience with the persecuted church. Along with his wife Ruth, he founded Nik Ripken Ministries, which calls attention to the high-cost paid by believers who are living outside of the comforts and religious freedoms of the United States.

“The Ripkens learned from the persecuted church not only how to survive in the midst of persecution, but how to thrive,” said Dr. Stephen Rummage, senior pastor at Bell Shoals Baptist Church.

“Most of us would want to know how our faith can make that kind of difference in our lives.”

Mr. Ripken’s book The Insanity of God (2013) chronicles their relief work and heartbreaks in the oppressed and impoverished regions of Africa. The book depicts how faith can flourish even in the direst of circumstances as seen through

Mr. Ripken’s second book, The Insanity of Obedience (2014), is considered “a challenging book,” as described by its author. Mr. Ripken penned the many missionary life lessons learned while witnessing to believers surviving in areas that are rampant with brutal practices, persecution and tyranny.

Dr. Rummage continued, “The Ripkens show us what it means to live for something far greater than ourselves. That is something—the only thing—that can give our lives meaning and purpose.”

The message is free and open to the community. Programming is also available for preschoolers and children.

Firm Foundation Christian Fellowship Hosts Summer Lunch Program In Riverview With school out for the summer, many school-aged children who were receiving free or reduced lunch are now without nutritious meals.

From June 11 to August 3, Firm Foundation Christian Fellowship Church will host a USDA Summer BreakSpot Free Lunch Program. The church is located at 12001 Big Bend Rd. in Riverview.

The USDA federally-funded, stateadministered program provides free meals to children ages 1 to 18 years that are living in low-income areas. The program garners its support through nonprofit organizations that act as host sites and sponsors.

In collaboration with the Potter’s House Community Development in Tampa, Firm Foundation has opened its doors to serve healthy lunches Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch is available to all children, and no registration is required.

Volunteers from the congregation prepare and serve meals while also engaging with the youth. The summer meal program incorporates a time of fun and mentorship through the church’s outreach called AAACE, which stands for Awesome Attitude, Academics and Excellence.

"We live in a time where it is so important that we practice the principles of John 17: 21-23,” said Pastor Quinn.

“We can do more together as a body of believers than we can do alone."

Over the years, the church has also served the community by joining with other churches to bring the Riverview Harvest Festival. Each year, the church partners with Sam’s Club to raise funds for school supplies and clothing for those in need.

Firm Foundation Christian Fellowship has been a part of the Riverview community since 2007. The nondenominational church holds Sunday worship services at 10:30 a.m. and Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

A summer kids’ event called Shipwrecked VBS will be hosted at Southside Baptist Church from July 9-13 from 5:30-8 p.m. Kids will discover that Jesus rescues them. They will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamworkbuilding games, make and devour treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and more.

Each day concludes with the Sail Away Sendoff that gets everyone involved in living what they have learned. Family members and friends are encouraged to join in daily for this special time at 7:30 p.m.

New Group For Mothers With Children At Relevant Church

Relevant Church has recently launched a new connection and fellowship group for mothers with children at home or not - and women with a heart for supporting mothers.

It is open to the public. The group meets at Relevant Church in Ybor the second Wednesday of each month for fellowship, encouragement and the occasional guest speakers. Join in for either the 9:30 -11 a.m. morning session, or the 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. evening session. Child care, snacks and refreshments provided.

We also meet up at least once a

month for familycentered activities such as play dates, potluck lunches with a recipe exchange, swimming and other kidfriendly events.

Leah – Finding True Love In God

By Kelly Wise Valdes Throughout the Bible, there are many stories of strong and heroic women.

In this series, we will explore a story of a faithful biblical woman each month. With their strong faith, the women of the Bible continue to teach us how to live authentic, faithfilled lives. No matter what our circumstances are, we can find ourselves in their stories.

An unusual story of a young girl named Leah begins in Genesis 29. There was a man named Laban who had two daughters, Leah and Rachel. Leah was the oldest; however, her younger sister Rachel was considered more beautiful. It was also during this time that Jacob, son of Rebekah and Isaac, was seeking safety far away from his brother Esau, who was trying to kill him for stealing his inheritance. When Jacob found his way onto Laban’s land, he saw Rachel, Laban’s youngest daughter, and fell in love.

Jacob agreed to serve Laban for seven years in exchange for Rachel’s hand in marriage. At the end of the seven years, Laban cruelly deceived Jacob during the promised wedding to Rachel. It was customary to bring the bride to the bedchamber of her husband during the wedding ceremony in silence and darkness. The next morning Jacob discovered that he had married Leah and not Rachel. Laban explained that the younger sister could not be married before the first-born. Jacob loved Rachel and agreed to remain married to Leah. Laban allowed Jacob to marry Rachel the following week but had to promise to serve Laban for another seven years.

Leah was the wife of Jacob, a man who did not love her, and she also had to share her husband with her sister. Leah loved Jacob and prayed about her situation, and God had compassion for Leah.

A Heroic Woman Named Leah Genesis 29:31 says, “When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.” God rewarded Leah with the first-born son of Jacob, which was a significant honor for a wife in those days.

Leah hoped that Jacob would now love her and find favor with her, but unfortunately, this was not the case. Leah eventually gave birth to six sons and one daughter and ultimately found her joy and favor with God. Her six sons became the representatives of six of the twelve tribes of Israel. The names Leah chose for her sons demonstrated her honor and faithfulness to God for His blessings. Leah may not have been as outwardly attractive as her sister, but what she lacked in beauty she made up for in loyalty to Jacob as a wife, a good mother to his children, and her faithfulness to God. When we feel unloved or unattractive, we can turn to look at God’s faithfulness in our lives. God sees our pain and our struggles, and like Leah, He will bless us in our devotion to Him. God does not see outward beauty, but the beauty within our hearts. Although Leah may not seem to have great courage or strength, she demonstrated a quiet and loyal faithfulness to God and her family. Ultimately, Jesus would come from the ancestral line of Judah, one of her sons. Despite the overwhelming pain of rejection, Leah found herself blessed beyond measure.

Faces Of Courage Has A Simple Motto: Cancer Is Serious, Camp Is Serious Fun

Faces of Courage provides an assortment of free life enriching programs for children and families touched by all types of cancer and blood disorders.

Faces of Courage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides day outings and overnight camps for women, children and families touched by all types of cancer and blood disorders. All programs are given free of charge.

Faces of Courage was founded by Peggy Sherry in 2004. It is a Tampa based nonprofit, but it serves cancer survivors from all over the country.

Faces of Courage is able to provide services for free thanks to tireless volunteers and support from the community.

Volunteers such as Larry Brooks provide essential services. Brooks, who lives in Sun City Center, became involved with Faces of Courage about eight years ago.

He works in the kitchen at every camp that is held.

Brooks said, "I volunteer because I see what the camp means to the survivors who attend. At one of the camps, a

woman with cancer gave me a hug and thanked me for being there." Brooks added, "While the emphasis at the camps is certainly on fun, it also provides support and focuses on developing a strong positive attitude towards recovery and good health management. Many of the volunteers are survivors as well, and when they tell a camper they know what they are going through, they really do know."

Sherry said, "No one can understand the cancer journey until they have heard the words 'You have cancer.' When these survivors can get together, leave their wigs in the cabin and openly talk about their feelings, worries and hopes, it is very healing."

Faces of Courage has several upcoming camps for women and children. It is hosting two Adult Women's Camps on August 17-19 and September 14-16. It will host Santa's Workshop Weekend for children ages 2-12 the weekend of November 30 to December 2. Registration for camps opens approximately five weeks before camp.

Camps cost approximately $250 per camper. To offset the cost of the camps, Faces of Courage holds events such as ‘It's Too Hot Music Fest’ on Sunday, July 15 and a Top Golf event on Sunday, July 22.

Bald Point offers access to two Apalachee Bay beaches for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing. Facilities include a fishing dock and picnic pavilions.

Florida Caverns is the only state park to offer cave tours to the public. It has dazzling formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, flowstones and draperies. Cave tours sometimes sell out so call the Ranger Station at 850-4821228 prior to departing for the park to ensure that all tours have not sold out for that day. Guided cave tours last 45 minutes and are offered year-round except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tours of the caves are not offered on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Florida Caverns State Park is also popular for camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. It also features a ninehole, New Deal-era golf Florida Caverns course set in beautiful rolling terrain. Pastors And Ministry Leaders Unite In Prayer For Tampa

By Kelly Wise Valdes Among the rugged terrain and mountains in the country of Georgia, situated at the dividing line of Asia and Europe, is the Gergeti Trinity Church.

Georgia has numerous secluded villages, extraordinary mountains ranges and beautiful churches.

However, the Gergeti Church combines all three elements and is one of Georgia’s most sacred destinations.

Only six miles from the Russian border, this little known and mysterious church sits atop the third largest mountain in the country and has become one of the most popular sites in Georgia. It was built in the fourteenth century, but not much is known of its history. What historians do know is that this medieval church was used as a hiding place during invasions at different times throughout Georgia's history. Many of the national treasures, including Saint Nino's Cross, were hidden at Gergeti because it would be difficult for enemies to reach due to the rugged terrain reaching 7,720 feet high. During the Soviet era, all religious services were forbidden, but the church remained a popular tourist desti-

nation. The church is now an active establishment of the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church.

The architecture in the Gergeti Trinity Church boasts the only dome church in the northern part of Georgia. A small bell tower is located adjacent to the church, decorated with carvings and statues. The church itself is simple with small windows that create a mysterious twilight. Unfortunately, no photographs of the church interior are allowed.

The church is isolated as it is surrounded by the vastness of nature, which is worth the trip simply for the view itself.

Adventurous hikers can reach the church with an arduous three-hour climb. Less adventurous visitors can take a 30minute jeep ride up the rough mountain trail. For more information, visit https://georgia.travel.

Live Like You Mean It Notes On Real Freedom

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free!” – Galatians 5:1 Last week in my men’s group (we’re studying Mere Christianity

by C.S. Lewis) I asked everyone to share something that’s been on their mind, something they “can’t let go of.”

The conversation kept circling back to self-centered behavior, the absence of a fundamental work ethic in so many people, and the cost of indolence both to them as individuals and to those who rely on them.

As our discussion progressed, a kind of paradox emerged. If we are ungrounded in our own souls, we tend to use free will for selfish gain – even though what we think we want fails to satisfy. However, when we chose to submit both to God and to one another – in a sense ceding the freedom to “do what we like” – we are satisfied, happy, and free.

We concluded that sin is a deception that offers freedom but never delivers.

The best definition of sin is anything that separates us from God. What if – I wonder – when we pander to self we are not exercising freedom so much as giving it up? Rather than ‘doing what I like’ maybe I am experiencing a kind of bondage?

If that is true, then the choice to follow Jesus and to be guided by the Spirit is actually a step into freedom.

When the Spirit urges us to love and serve one another the result is satisfaction, happiness, fulfillment, and freedom. Not just that we are freed from the control of sin but free to embrace the selfless nature we were designed to enjoy.

I believe we were (we are) designed by God for the purpose of experiencing selfless community.

When our choices lead away from love and service maybe it is not so much free will as it is domination and exploitation from a malignant source?

So there are two parts to free will, freedom from, and freedom for. The beautiful thing is that in making the choice to follow Jesus I am claiming both.

Honoring God And Country On Independence Day

Parades, fireworks, flag displays and other ceremonies of national pride commemorate Independence Day, a United States holiday honoring the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by our founding fathers.

How should Christians celebrate Independence Day? Although it’s not a religious holiday like Christmas or Easter, for many Americans, July 4th is a time to reflect on God's blessings on our nation. The founding fathers wanted to establish a free system of government and the Declaration of Independence became the foundation. Independence Day offers us a day to give thanks for the wisdom, faith and courage of those leaders.

In our nation, we can attend the church of our choice and practice our religious freedoms. This freedom is undoubtedly something to celebrate. While we look back to our founding fathers with gratitude on this Fourth of July, we can also look to the future with a renewed faith and commitment to God. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” Psalm 33:12.
