A new list of the best of the year. In this case, the 40 best films without commercial distribution during 2021. Includes films seen at festivals that were not released in theaters or on streaming platforms or available on the internet.

This new list of the best of the year is perhaps the most complete of all since it includes a good part of the best films that have circulated around the world. I put them in a list apart from the other (see here) because none of them are available to viewers, at least in this part of the world. No, not even on the not quite legal online sites or pages that many are familiar with. Some of them went through local festivals (BAFICI or Mar del Plata in the case of Argentina), but for the most part (except for some error that I realized belatedly, as is the case of TITANE, which they can find online) are not films accessible to readers, unless they are part of the industry, members of the press or the like. If you know of other movies on this list that are online, you can let us all know in the comments.

It is expected that all or many of these films can be seen by the public throughout 2022. It is known that several are already in the plans of some platforms: MUBI will premiere some of this list, Apple TV + will have that of Joel Coen in January and surely others will find their national, regional or world distributor or exhibitor. But for now they work like what the American media call “undistributed films«. The good thing about drawing attention to their existence, ideally, is that someone takes pity on Latin American viewers and acquires some of these films. Hopefully it happens. Here, then, a Top 40 that does not include documentaries, nor Latin American films, nor those that were on the previous lists. By clicking on the titles you can read the respective reviews.
