times this summer, I have felt like a goldfish in its fishbowl when I’m not riding out front of the group. We’ve only received rain twice this summer, combined with the extreme heat wave for weeks at a time, so our favorite water and mud holes have become dusty patches. It is what it is, we’ll hope for a little rain.

That being said, when were loading the buggies on the trailer, the outside temp gauge hit 37, but was feeling more like 45 Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) with the humidity. Senior Sales/Marketing Manager and all around smart guy and technical wizard Matt Clark, AKA “Sparky” and I looked at each other and rolled the units back into the shop and made the executive decision to conduct a little wrenching on them rather then hitting the trails.

We did some cleaning, greasing, tightening and a few adjustments in a cool shop, followed by some armchair racing and watching the Jays notch another win, all while having a few cool ones to keep us hydrated on this blistering hot, dusty summer day. Matt and I felt that any way to stay cool was a good way, as long as somehow we were connected to an ATV or Sideby-Side. That way, the stories to our wives held true that we were out with the buggies, allowing us not to worry about our lack of tackling the “honey do” lists in our minds. Needless to say, it was a great shop day and we were able to do a thorough once over. Hot days like these do have usefulness in the ATV World.

In this issue we have a lot of great reading for you, including all the goods on the new ACE lineup. Nick made his way to Ohio and took in the 5th round of the EDT Nationals, and also managed to check out some crazy three wheelers. Pat gets up close and personal with 2017 Arctic Cats, and we also get the goods from TrakMotive and the down low from Maxxis. This issue surly won’t disappoint!

Until next time, we’ll be in the garage monitoring the temp and working on the buggies, remembering the days when it was too hot to ride.

ROVs can be hazardous to operate. Improper use can cause severe injury or death. Each rider must wear a seat belt, approved helmet, eye protection and protective gear. Each rider must use handholds/steering wheel and stay completely inside the vehicle. Each rider must be able to sit with their back against the seat, feet fl at on floor and hands on handholds/steering wheel and must read and understand the operator’s manual before riding. Follow all instructions and warnings. Avoid abrupt maneuvers, hard acceleration when turning and sidehilling. Avoid paved surfaces. Slow down before entering a turn. Don’t operate on public roads unless designated for off-highway vehicle access — collisions with cars and trucks can occur. Never engage in stunt driving. Never drive or ride under influence of alcohol or drugs. Avoid excessive speeds and be particularly careful on difficult terrain. All ROV operators must have a valid driver’s license.

No operators under age 16. Never carry a passenger in the cargo box or exceed seating capacity. Do not shoot from or lean firearms or bows against the ROV. LEVI LAVALLEE WILL HELP CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HAY DAYS IN A VERY BIG WAY With a long list of action sport accomplishments to his credit including the world record snowmobile distance jump of 412-feet, Levi will break out the ramps and launch the Hay Days celebration (and himself) with a 200-foot distance jump on September 10 in North Branch, Minnesota.

Heralded as one of the sports biggest and most recognizable athletes, Levi is synonymous with snowmobile competition, having won a national snocross title, 7 X-Games gold medals, and has appeared on several national television shows including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America and ESPN. With two record distance jumps to his credit, Levi will attempt a 200foot plus ramp-to-ramp jump as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration at the world’s biggest snowmobile event.

With humble beginnings as little more than a gathering of club members, Hay Days has grown to become the biggest snowmobile event in the world with more than 50,000 fans in attendance along with every major manufacturer, aftermarket company, dealer, and athlete. Today, Hay Days is the place to see and be seen for the entire snowmobile industry.

Located 8-miles east of North Branch, Minnesota, Hay Days features something for everyone including snowmobile grass drags, freestyle exhibitions, ATV and side-by-side races, the sports largest swap meet, more than 200 vendors, demo ride opportunities, raffles, vintage displays, and so much more. Encompassing more than 180 acres, it has become the ‘can’t miss’ event for thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts from across North America and even the world.

Levi’s long-distance jump is schedule for Saturday (September 10) at 5:00pm and will take place at the east end of the snowmobile drag strip, adjacent to county road 70. With a metal take-off ramp and massive dirt constructed landing ramp, he is expected to soar well in excess of 200feet. You can also catch the action on CBS Sports Network, check your local listings for Terracross Championship in September, which will feature the jump.

3RD ANNUAL IDAHO DUNES UTV INVASION LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2016.

The popular UTV Invasion Powered by Boondocker event, held annually in St Anthony Idaho will take place September 1st - 5th at the popular St Anthony Sand Dunes. Idaho Dunes RV resort will serve as the host location featuring a concert stage, vendor row as well as onsite camping and amenities.

JOEL HOULTON NAMED POLARIS VICE PRESIDENT OF GLOBAL SAFETY AND QUALITY Polaris Industries Inc. announced that Joel Houlton, Senior Engineering Director, has been named Vice President of Global Safety and Quality for Polaris. POLARIS INDUSTRIES VOLUNTARILY ISSUES STOP-RIDE/ STOP SALE ADVISORY FOR MY2016 RZR TURBO OFF-ROAD VEHICLES Polaris Industries is issuing a stop-ride/stop-sale advisory, pending a formal recall, for MY2016 RZR Turbo off-road vehicles, due to a potential fire hazard.

Polaris is currently evaluating a comprehensive repair solution. Once validated, repair instructions will be issued to Polaris dealers and vehicle owners will be notified that they can contact their dealer about scheduling a free repair. Until then, owners should not ride, and dealers should not sell, MY2016 RZR Turbo models. All owners of affected vehicles are being contacted directly. obvious that engine would not produce the power they wanted; it also causes lots of pollutants in the air. They asked like what…..and the teacher in me took over and this is what we discussed.

An internal combus on engine can develop a lot of nasty pollutants in large quan es with very li le effort if things are not adjusted or maintained properly. This primarily due to the fact that the engine will process over 9000 liters of air through itself for each liter of gasoline combusted if the fuel mixture of 14.7:1 is achieved (14.7 pounds of air to 1 pound of fuel) and if the mixture is off, things get worse.

So what are exhaust gas pollutants they asked?

Simply put they are any gases that contribute to air and water pollu on and climate change.

The most common but not necessarily the only gases are hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), carbon dioxide (CO2) and Sulfur dioxide (SO2). Let’s take a look at each.

Hydrocarbons: This emission is generally caused by incomplete combus on which allows unburnt fuel to exit the exhaust pipe. A dirty air filter will cause the fuel/air mixture (F/A) to be rich increasing HC’s as well as old stale fuel. It is also very high in premixed fuels of 2 stroke engines. That blue sweet smelling exhaust us older riders used

with every summer, I have the opportunity to work at the Ontario Camp of the Deaf, just south of Parry Sound during some of the Motocamps. Although the hours are long during these days, I always have a good me working with the young riders and the trainers while talking dirt bikes and ATV’s.

This year as with each year, while cleaning and servicing the never ending pile of air filters a er a day’s riding, a couple young riders that were quite inquisi ve on how to do this task properly started asking ques ons regarding what happens if the air filter didn’t get serviced and how it related to opera on of their own motorcycle. I told them other than the

Although to some of us from the 2 stroke era loved the smell of 2 stroke smoke, this was a major contribution of HC’s (hydrocarbon emissions) to the environment.

Technology has helped some new generation two stroke engines run as clean if not cleaner than comparable four stroke engines.

atvworld to love was really bad for the environment. That is why some manufacturers like Honda opted to no longer produce 2 stroke engines in any of their products. Four stroke engines have really helped curb HC emissions in the small engine and recrea onal industries. Some companies s ll using 2 stroke engines like BRP have met stringent standards in their modern engines by closely controlling the oil injec on process and fuel delivery.

Carbon Monoxide: This is a by-product of combus on. Generally formed when there is not enough oxygen (O2) to combine with the fuel during combuson. This gas is colorless, odorless and a deadly poison to humans and animals.

Very li le is required to cause death so never run an engine in an enclosed space like the garage with the doors closed. Your blood will absorb carbon monoxide 210 easier than it will oxygen.

Your body simply dies due to oxygen starva on.

Oxides of Nitrogen: These are various compounds of nitrogen and oxygen formed during the combus on process.

Both nitrogen and oxygen are in the air we breathe, but if the combus on temperatures or pressures get too high,

NOx is created. This NOx can mix with HC’s and sunlight causing photo-chemical smog which appears as the brownish ground level haze we see some mes around ci es. NOx when inhaled can cause respiratory problems such as lung irrita on, bronchi s or pneumonia and in high concentra ons cause your eyes to burn. It is also worth no ng that when NOx gets up into the atmosphere and mixes with rain, acid rain is created.

Carbon Dioxide: CO2 although not classed as a pollutant, it has been linked to another environmental concern known as “global warming” as a greenhouse gas. Carbon dioxide could actually be the biggest cause of global warming.

It has been es mated that around 30% of the world’s CO2 is caused by the transporta on industry. This figure is offset somewhat by the fact that plants use the carbon dioxide to produce oxygen. The closer the F/A mixture is to 14.7:1 the higher the nitrogen Sulphur Dioxide: This exhaust gas is not always monitored in the exhaust end gases and is colorless while having a ro en egg smell. It can be caused by a high sulphur content of the gasoline and is produced by the cataly c acon of some exhaust systems. I have

men oned it because it can cause heart problems, asthma and other respiratory issues.

A er a very ac ve conversa on, (which brought in a few more par cipants) the understanding of why an engine needs to be working properly for more than just power I think was well received and understood. The relevancy of the quesons as we finished cleaning up our pit areas and prepared for the next day of riding certainly gave me the indica on I had expanded their ini al thoughts.

Just to finish up on this topic with some FYI, Canadian emission regula ons with Environment Canada and Transport Canada are not new, they actually have been out and about since 1971.

By the me you read this, summer will most likely have succumbed and another great fall season will be upon us. Take me to enjoy the fall colors and some of the amazing countryside we live in.

As Canadians I think we take a lot for granted and especially now with what we see and hear is going on in the rest of the world we certainly need to take stock. What we have is fragile and certainly worth protec ng and the educaon of our next genera on to this affect is me well spent…eh

This is what the result of air borne emissions is. If we all do a little like keeping our air filters clean, it could go a long way over time.

Some cities in the world are much worse than this.

INSTALLING THE UTV RACEPAK IQ3RZR DASH KIT

T

1 The IQ3RZR kit comes complete for plug and play installation. You only need a drill, a couple of drill bits, a T-40 Torx, a pair of pliers, and a 10 mm.

he Polaris RZR XP1000s and now RZR XP Turbos are incredibly high tech pieces of machinery. Incredible amounts of horsepower and unreal OffRoad handling and capabili es make it one of highest performing vehicles of all me. If you’re going to own something this cool, shouldn’t you want to keep track of what’s going on with it at all mes.

The stock gauge gives you MPH, water temp, and a few other key monitoring capabili es, but there is a whole lot more going on. The RacePak dash has made a big impact on the automo ve world with applica ons popping up in road course, offroad, and drag racing venues worldwide. Now you can have this same visibility, monitoring, and recording capabili es on your Polaris RZR XP and RZR XP Turbo. The new RacePak IQ3RZR dash is a high performance, a ermarket alterna ve to your OEM gauge, adding monitoring capabili es for ever-important things like Clutch Belt Temperature, Oil Pressure, and Turbo Boost.

The basic UTV dash includes Engine RPM; Wheel Speed; GPS Speed; Direc on; Al tude; Gear Sensor; AWD Status; Coolant Temp Fuel %; Fuel Economy; Fuel Flow, etc. The belt temp, oil pressure, and turbo boost pressure require addi onal sensor kits and are available individually for purchase. The best part of the IQ3RZR Dash is how simply it installs. Install should take about 20-30 minutes, and requires very li le mechanical ability and only a small handful of tools.

2 Drill out the three “premarked” holes in the dash panel for the RacePak mounting. Be sure to use a drill that is just slightly larger than the mounting studs.

3 Install the IQ3 protective cover over the dash. Make sure it goes on evenly, and push it all the way on flush. You will also need to thread the three mounting all-threads into the back of the dash.

4 Install the dash into the dash mount panel. It will be a tight fit with the protective cover, and the mounting all-threads need to be correctly aligned as well.

6 Cut out the supplied paper template and then mark holes for the two toggle buttons. Drill out the two button holes with a drill that’s slightly larger than the button’s threads.

8 Remove the stock dash panel, you will need the T-40 Torx for the two screws under hood, and then pliers to undo the plastic nut holding the ignition to dash.

5 With the Dash mount flipped over, install the three lock washers and the three nuts onto the all-thread mounting studs. Tighten them with a wrench or socket, snug but not cranking on them.

7 Install the two Racepak programming buttons into the holes you just drilled. Black on the left and Red on the right in relation to the driver viewing the mounted dash.

9 With the stock dash lipped upside down, unplug the main plug from back of the gauge and all of the other accessory plugs.

10 Carefully wiggle the headlight and AWD toggle switches out of the stock dash panel, and then install them into the Racepak Dash mount.

11 Install the GPS antenna to the top or RZR roof or hood, facing upwards and then route connection wire to the back of the Racepak dash and connect it.

12 Connect the main Racepak harness to the harness plug that came off the back of the stock gauge. Reattach the plugs for the switches, the 12 v accessory plug, and the ignition key.

13 Crimp the supplied eyelet onto the ground wire, and then ground the dash kit out to the metal frame at the threaded hole on the top of the chassis.

14 Use zipties to neaten up all the extra wiring, and then reinstall the new RacePak dash. With the dash in place, install and tighten the two Torx bolts. Reinstall the hood.

The new for 2016 mid-sized Arc c Cat Alterra 400 will come to market with a suggested MSRP of $5,499 (US), a $300 reduc on over last year. Joining it with a reduced price as well is the full-size

Alterra 500 with an MSRP of $5,999 (US).

You may recall this model was branded as a 450 last year, to match the 443cc engine nestled under the new for 2016 plas c. The move to calling it a 500 for 2017 aligns with other compe tors in the category and with a $200 reduc on in MSRP should make it formidable op on for entry full-size buyer

and more families take to the trails and share the experience with young and old alike. The new Alterra 90 comes dressed in bodywork that matches the new full-size Cats and includes front and rear racks that do more than look the part. With a steel structure beneath the stylized top, the front rack can accommodate up to

10lbs, while the rear can hold a full 15lbs.

Power comes from a 90cc air-cooled fourstroke engine and features fully automa c transmission with forward and reverse, electric start with auto-choke, adjustable pre-load suspension, and fully func onal headlights, taillights and brake lights.

The two-up category expands greatly for 2017 with the addi on of three new Alterra TRV models in 500, 700, and burly 1000 power op ons. Last year Arc c Cat had only two models in this mix, with one being dressed in the old plas c as a special edi on 700. The new 2017 TRV models feature the improved looks, fit, and finish of the Alterra plas c and tout SpeedRack II composite rack systems. The steel under composite design looks sharp and holds

loads be er. What’s more, the SpeedRack II design can quickly accept a long list of Arc c Cat accessories allowing you to outfit your ride just for you and your passenger.

A new passenger seat touts improved ergonomics for greater passenger comfort and confidence. The TRV’s also feature new dual rear LED taillights; new mul -func on digital gauges; and integrated rear storage box that can hold up to 1.44 gallons of gear.

The TRV 500 is powered by a liquid-cooled

443cc four-stroke engine; the TRV is powered by a 695cc liquid-cooled engine; and the big boy TRV 1000 features a 951cc V-twin four-stroke for unmatched two-up accelera on. All three engines feature a new closed-loop EFI system that is said to provide 25% improved fuel economy.

Both the 700 and 1000 also tout a new LED/Halogen headlight system, combining the primary ligh ng of halogen with LED accents for cu ng edge style.

With full-size machines growing not only in size but price as well, the nimble, easy to haul, easy to store, and easy to maneuver mid-size work machines have become a just right fit for many homeowners, recrea onalists, hunters, and co age owners for light duty work and weekend

trail rides. While the size of the Prowler 500 is smaller than other side-by-sides in the Arc c Cat line, it doesn’t sacrifice on work ethics. The rear l ng cargo box can haul up to 500lbs and when using the standard 2-inch receiver hitch the Prowler 500 can also tow up 1500lbs. The bench seat comfortably accommodates two full-size adults and features full-size features such as an adjustable steering wheel. Power comes from a liquid-cooled 443cc fourstroke engine and suspension du es serve up 7.5-inches of travel and a full 10-inches of ground clearance.

The ATV Consent Decree was signed in 1987, and was the final say and death of large scale manufacturing of three wheeled ATVs. While this massive amount of nega ve publicity surely took its toll on our industry, it was without a doubt skewed with many other agendas and misleading informa on portrayed to be fact.

THIS IS WHERE THE “$#!T REALLY HITS the fan because you just can’t buy it, so why not make it.

So here we are, thirty years a er Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki were forced out of the Trike industry, and you can find nearly 100 three wheelers at a TT race in Ashtabula, OH. What’s more, about 15 of these race three wheelers happen to be modern age, four-strokes, with inverted forks and maybe even fuel injec on. So what gives? How is this possible?

Truth be told, Three-Wheeler Racing and even just Trikes in general have a following like no other! Three Wheeler racing has been making a huge comeback over the last few years with MX, TT, and Flat Track events including the li le redheaded stepchildren across the country.

TT racing might just be the perfect venue for a three-wheeler, as the talented racers

were pu ng down lap mes compe ve with the fast quads. At the Pine Lake Race in Ashtabula, there were just about as many three-wheeler entries as there were ATVs. The coolest thing about this threewheeler movement or comeback, is the pride these guys take in their machines.

Many three-wheeler aficionados and racers want the same luxuries as the ATV and Motorcycle racing crowd. Modern day technology, be er handling, electric start, etc., etc. This is where the “$#!t really hits the fan because you just can’t buy it, so why not make it.

A small handful of companies as well as a few really talented garage builders have started building dirtbike and ATV conversion Trikes. With a lot of fabrica on, pa ence, and an abundance of donor machines, they are truly building the “Modern Day Trike”. Ashtabula saw an abundance of Honda ATV and Motorcycle conversions, a couple of super-clean Yamaha builds, and a really clean Kawasaki.

In the pits we met up with Joe Swatland who owned a super sano Kawasaki KLX450 conversion. We shot the breeze for a li le while about the build, and Joe

was quick to point out that his friend and fellow three-wheeler aficionado Jason Hall had handled the crea ve parts of the build. He also introduced us to Jason’s son Jacob Hall, who has recently been quite the YouTube sensa on with what some might call a “crazy” jump over the SkyShot jump on the Unadilla MX Track. Watching a thirty year old three-wheeler go 140’ before dropping in from 30 feet up is definitely one of the gnarliest things we’ve seen in a while.

As it turned out, while he wasn’t even born before the last three-wheeler saw produc on, Jacob is quite the rider and racer. Jacob all but waxed the compe on in Ashtabula every me we saw him take the track. Jacob’s Dad is not only a passionate three-wheeler guy, he also happens to be a long me gearhead and fabricator.

The MX three wheeler that Jacob races and was jumping at Unadilla is actually a thirty-year-old 1986 ATC250R with a laundry list of Dad’s mods to keep it compe ve. One of the Hall’s first builds, the ATC250R features 96 CR250R forks with Jason’s valving, a modified TRX450ER rear end, a custom axis shock, and a 4mm stroker/big bore motor.

atvworld THE MODERN DAY TRIKE Jacob’s flat track and TT bike build is where the Hall’s really started to get crea ve. Taking what they had learned on the first builds, Jason decided to put together a full-blown, modern day TT Trike. The donor bike and chassis is from a 2002 Honda CRF450R, the basic build idea is to use a dirtbike frame, engine and forks with custom triple clamps, ATC hub/spindle, and a custom subframe with TRX450R (ATV) rear plas c. One major hiccup to this build is the dirtbike’s rearward kicking kick-starter. This is why many of the other builds at the track actually use an ATV motor instead of the donor bike’s motor.

Jason saw the kick star ng issue coming, and went in a whole different direc on. Instead of finding a donor ATV and having to morph the two frames, Jason found an electric start CRF450X lower end. This motor is extremely close to the CRF450R, requiring only a few minor bracket changes for install, and keeping the counter sprocket in the perfect stock loca on. Jason built this 450X motor using his 2002 CRF450R head for its bigger valves, and then opts for a TRX HRC cam.

This combo is similar to what the American Honda guys ran in Baja on their 450X race bikes, and provides incredibly rideable low end power, and s ll pulls like a rocket on top.

The frame is basically stock with the excep on of a lowered shock mount and a few motor mount mods. A custom subframe supports a trx450r seat and fenders, and a custom airbox. Jacob and Jason both claim the rear fenders

The Halls have done tremendous work on the suspension and overall setup of this machine, and are winning races on a regular

basis. The cool thing is that they are also constantly helping others with their crea ons, even the compe on. The other Jason Hall-built machine in Ashtabula was the KLX we men oned earlier. Jason built Joe Swatland’s trike with the same love, compassion and dedica on that he puts into his own.

THE KAWI BUILD

With a so spot for Green, and a desire to have the coolest Kawasaki three-wheeler in the world, Joe decided on a 08 KLX450R as his donor, and turned it over to Jason. The 08 / 09 was the only year for the KLX, which offered electric start and provisions for ligh ng.

Joe’s donor being a used Craigslist find, came with an IMS tank, a steering stabilizer, and a Rekluse clutch. All three of these things were great mods that would transfer over nicely to his Trike build.

Jason would have to build a custom chromoly swingarm to make things line up, and opted for a TRX450R style rear end and linkage with the Custom Axis shock. The front end uses Jason Hall’s custom triple clamps with shortened KLX forks for TT, and stock length ones for MX. The footpegs are relocated with bolt-on brackets, and the only frame mod is the upper subframe mount.

The subframe is a modified unit from a KFX450R ATV, as is the rear plas c and seat.

As cool looking as these machines are, they are truly more func onal than you could ever imagine. They launch off the line with a vengeance, handle the rough incredibly well, and as Jacob is proving, they can jump like a modern day four-wheeler.

Maxxis Tire is synonymous with performance…in fact, you’d be hard pressed to attend an off-road race in North America and not see Maxxis Tire in the winner’s circle. Their tires are regarded the world over for their performance and rugged dependability, and they’ve been the tire of choice for podium winners in road racing, mountain biking, offroad trucks, motocross, rally racing and so much more. It was this passion for racing that led Tyler Trammell to Maxxis as a key player in their ATV/Moto division. An off-road racer since the age of five, he grew up racing motorcycles, and after graduating college he knew a career within the off-road industry was his calling. Always on the gas, just like his employer, we slowed Tyler down just long enough to get his Last Turn take for this issue.

Last ATV/UTV ride you took?

I was in Washington, Utah with the crew at Kombustion Motorsports. We were doing some tire testing at Sand Hollow and they brought out some killer vehicles and we rock crawled for a couple days. It was a good time.

Someone who made a lasting impression on you?

That would be my old trainer, Steve Hatch, who helped with my training when I was racing professionally in off-road enduro motorcycle racing. He helped me on a weekly basis to assist me in balance training, college, worxk, and a social life, so we were extremely close for the four years we worked together. He also helped on the mental side of training, which is just as important as the physical part in racing. A lot of what he taught me is still just as valuable today, so I think that is why our time working together has made such a huge impact on my life.

Last band you saw in concert?

Eric Church…he puts on one heck of a concert.

Last time you got stuck?

I honestly cannot remember the last time, but more than likely it was at a race with my Dad and getting our race hauler stuck in the parking field. That was pretty common back in the day.

Last thing you ate that you were hesitant about?

Basically every time my fiancé Lucy cooks something new I am hesitant because I don’t like trying new things, I like sticking to what I know. But she’s a great cook, so it normally works out good for me.

Last trip you took out of the country?

I went to Canada for the Kimpex Dealer Show.

That was my first time to Canada so that was a cool experience. The Kimpex show is a topnotch event.

Last time you crashed?

I was riding at a buddy’s house where we have

a grass track with a ton of turns that really gives you a workout. The turns are really rutted out so we just push each other until we get arm pump so bad we wreck or we make a mistake.

Last time you drove over 100mph?

I actually got to go out to Atlanta Motorsports Park recently and do a Ferrari Driving Experience. I got to drive the Ferrari 458 Italia, which is only a $230k car, so no pressure there on making sure I didn’t crash it. It was a road course and super technical so they didn’t let us test the limits too much, but I know we got to around 120mph on the front stretch.

Lasting impression you’d like to leave someone with about Maxxis?

I think the Maxxis name speaks for itself nowadays. Maxxis has done such a great job in establishing the brand…people know what they’re getting when they buy a Maxxis product.

We are constantly looking at ways to improve our product and always trying to stay ahead of the competition. When you choose Maxxis you are on the best tires available.

Last ATV/UTV industry event you attended?

High Lifter Mud Nationals at Mud Creek OffRoad Park located in Jacksonville, TX. It was my first time at this event, and man that was something to see. The vehicles were insane and the people sure do know how to have a good time.

Last thing you read?

I am actually reading a book now called “How Will You Measure Your Life” which was recommended to all of us here at Maxxis by our President James Tzen. It’s pretty insightful and will definitely make you think about how you look at things in your life.

Last time you raced?

I actually raced my motorcycle recently when I had a free weekend and wasn’t travelling for work. I hadn’t raced in about six months and signed up for the pro class, not expecting too

much other than to just go out and have some fun. While sitting on the line, waiting to start, someone came up and told me I was considered “old” now to the younger guys on the pro line… that hurt. I came away with a 2nd overall on the day so that felt good to humble the “young” guys.

Lasting off-road memory?

My lasting off-road memory would be the 20122013 racing season. My Dad and I raced every enduro series in the south that year, along with a national series and I won every series I competed in. We raced more than 40 weekends that year, and we were on the road a lot. I will remember that forever.

Last work related project or vehicle that made you say “hell yeah”?

It would have to be the vehicle the guys at Kombustion Motorsports brought out to test at Sand Hollow. It was lifted up and would basically rock crawl anything.

Last time you were lost?

It was several years ago when I went out to Colorado, mountain biking with a friend and his dad. We went out planning on going for a 2-3 hour ride, but we made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up just totally getting lost in the middle of nowhere. We ran out of food and water and had no phone service at all to try and find a way out. Somehow we were able to find our way down some back roads to the main road, and were able to call my friend’s mom to come get us. We were so hungry and drained, we told her to stop at the first fast food restaurant she found, and we laid in the back of their van eating the best McDonalds we’d ever had in our lives. I will never forget that trip.

Last words of advice?

Probably the best advice I ever got was from my trainer, Steve Hatch. He would always tell me, “You can either make excuses, or you can make it happen, but you can’t do both.” That couldn’t be truer in every aspect of life.
