I’m a killer Of plants I think growing plants is somewhere in my DNA because my grandparents and other relatives had farms, my grandfather was a champion orchid grower and my great-aunt grew an incredible array of plants in her back yard in Mar yland My dad loved to grow citrus trees, fig trees and palm trees. My mom met my dad tending her garden as their yards were catty-corner to each other. But maybe I didn’t get that gene. My worst plant murder was a huge tree in the back yard of a house I moved into Before I moved in, the previous owner meticulously showed me these big urns filled in var ious plants and how her brother had set up a watering system for them, which relieved me of watering duties But when I moved in, she’d taken all the urns So, with nothing to be watered (I thought), I turned the watering system off Little did I know it was also watering this big tree It wouldn’t have been so bad had it been a tree native to Arizona, but it wasn’t So it died
I say all this because I have friends who love to grow things and are good at it One of my best friends started using an electric tower that grows plants without soil (she told me how it wasn’t hydroponics, but the details escape me) I notice that P lantaform won a CES Innovation Award for Best of Innovation in the Food and AgTech categor y this year (see page 4) and LG has an elegantly designed indoor garden and lamp (see page 16)
