FDA Approves Novartis Radioligand Therapy Pluvicto
Novartis today that the U S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pluvicto® (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) for patients with prostates p e c i f i c m e m b r a n e a n t i g e n ( P S M A )positive metastatic castration-resistant p r o s t a t e c a n c e r ( m C R P C ) w h o h a v e been treated with an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) therapy a n d a r e c o n s i d e r e d a p p r o p r i a t e t o delay chemotherapy.
The expanded indication, which approximately triples the number of patients eligible to receive Pluvicto, is b a s e d o n r e s u l t s o f t h e P h a s e I I I PSMAfore trial In the study, Pluvicto reduced the risk of radiographic progression or death by 59% (HR=0.41; 95% CI: 0.29, 0.56; p<0.0001) compared to a change in ARPI in patients with PSMA-positive mCRPC after treatment w i t h A R P I t h e r a p y A t a n u p d a t e d e x p l o r a t o r y a n a l y s i s , P l u v i c t o m o r e t h a n d o u b l e d m e d i a n r a d i o g r a p h i c progression-free survival (11 6 months vs. 5.6 months).
“The earlier indication for Pluvicto could really change our treatment paradigms for patients with mCRPC It offers a targeted therapy that better delays disease progression compared to a second ARPI,” said Michael Morris, MD, Prostate Cancer Section Head, GU Oncology, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Principal Investigator of the study in the United States “This approval is a significant step forward and should open the doorway to a therapy that has clear clinical advantages for the patient with mCRPC who has progressed on one ARPI and has not received chemotherapy ”
