“During election day, October 19th, the Liberal Party defeated the nearly 9 year reign of the Conservative Party, lead by the formerly incumbent Stephen Harper. The Liberals won a remarkable 184 seats in the House Of Commons, forming a majority government. Since that historic day, Trudeau has made it exceedingly clear in his values of proper representation that ‘looks like Canada’. He has included leaders of various backgrounds and circumstances. Including more Indigenous, disabled, younger, older, and former refugee representatives. One of the more acknowledged heads is Harjit Sajjan, the Minister of Defence and representative of Vancouver South riding. Immigrating to Canada when he was 5, Sajjan is now a combat veteran and former detective. He is the first Sikh Immigrant to command a Canadian army regiment. Another celebrated member in supposedly one of Canada’s
most diverse Cabinets in history is Marc Garneau, the Minister of Transport. A familiar name perhaps, as Garneau was the first Canadian to ever walk space. Fitting with Prime Minister Trudeau’s words, ‘Canadians expect to see their values and priorities reflected in their government’. With new change, however, comes deep promises. Minister of Immigration, John McCallum, is working with both the Health Minister Jane Philpott, and Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, along with several others, to progress on the Syrian refugee concern. Currently, the Liberals are going through with their vision of taking in a total of 25,000 refugees by the end of the year. However, the implementation of how to get the asylum seekers to Canada, along with several other concerns is still in the process. In spite of recent events and obstacles in the way however, many Canadians put trust in the Liberal government and are looking forward to what's in store for Canada’s Future.”
