On behalf of this year’s OrSem Committee, we would like to happily welcome you to Ateneo!

A lot of people say that college is made up of some of the best years of your life, and we truly hope that you will get to agree with that during your stay here.

We hope that alongside meeting new people, you get to build lifetime friendships, make amazing memories, and overall maximize your college experience.

A Song for Mary Up to the time that the Ateneo de Manila had moved to Loyola Heights, the school anthem was “Hail Ateneo, Hail”, a song of triumph, of marching on to victory with loyalty. However, the move from Padre Faura to Loyola Heights seems to have evoked change.

The new campus stood for something new, something nobler.

Fr. James Reuter, S.J. wrote a song that seemed to embody the “newness” that permeated the new Ateneo. It, perhaps, better suited what the school is all about.

Blue Eagle The King The choice of the Blue Eagle as a symbol held iconic significance.

It was a reference to the “highflying” basketball team which would “sweep the fields away;” the dominating force in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. There was some mythological—even political— significance to the eagle as a symbol of power.

Blue Eagle The King is the marching song of the Ateneo de Manila University. At its core, it captures the power and heart of the Blue Eagle as a symbol.

Office of the President It is with joy and hope that I welcome you, the Loyola Schools Freshman Class of 2022, to the Ateneo de Manila University!

Though many health precautions are still in place and some classes and activities are still online, after two years of remote learning and a mostlyempty campus, the University community takes great joy in seeing the excited, happy faces and hearing the laughter and voices of young men and women once again. We also look forward with hope to the energy and creativity that you bring to our university.

More than forty years ago, Ateneo de Manila welcomed a young man from Cebu and it became like a second home to him. Many of the friendships that he forged then have lasted to this day and have only become stronger through the years. It is my personal hope that, just as I did, you may find the same kind of acceptance and support, and deep, life-long friendships in your Ateneo de Manila.

Office of the Vice President Welcome Atenean Freshies 2022 to Ateneo Loyola Schools, – your new home! In this cozy place with lush surroundings lives a friendly community. You can’t get lost wandering around the campus. Anyone you come across will show you the way. You can also navigate the path through LSOne – the virtual one-stop-hub for student services.

Whether online or onsite, teaching and learning come with a personal touch. Openly communicate with your teachers – that’s the key to their hearts. Keep up to speed with your readings by finding your nook in the Rizal Library or accessing online resources anywhere. After a tiring day, take shelter in the cool air under the trees with birds chirping away to keep you company. Walk leisurely around Bellarmine field and watch the sun sink in the horizon. In times of need for spiritual nourishment, the Immaculate Conception Chapel offers daily noon-time masses while the Church of the Gesu awaits you during community celebrations. Come and discover for yourselves more of what is special about being an Atenean in the Loyola Schools. Meantime, I wish you joy and courage in your study, hope in your aspirations, and love in your experiences of friendships, learning, and other life-giving adventures.

School of Humanities You are in for an adventure as you spend the next four years of your life at the Ateneo de Manila. I went to college here myself and have never left. Whether that is a warning or not—I leave it for you to interpret.

You will find that the Ateneo de Manila has much to offer. Because you are here foremost to develop your mind, you will be happy to know that you have plenty of experts here—people who are considered the authorities in their respective fields. I will not mention names—you probably know who they are already if you read books or follow the news. You should be so lucky to be studying with them as your teachers or mentors. Imagine the wealth of knowledge that is yours to gain. You will also find that the Ateneo de Manila is interested in shaping character and is serious about forming “men and women for others.” They’re what this or any country needs. There’s something to be said about its successes there. I will mention only Gawad Kalinga, which has built many houses and transformed many lives in almost three decades. Picture yourself years from now, a success in your field (whatever that may be) and a useful member of your community.

People who graduate from the Ateneo de Manila have a good shot at having a good career later in life. Our graduates are still the most employable relative to the graduates of other Philippine universities, says the QS World University Ranking survey. You, too, stand to be among those just four years from now. But all that can happen only if you exert yourself, learn from your mistakes, and drop the attitude. Remember that it’s not always about you. You are here to absorb as much knowledge as you can and be instructed in the ways of becoming a responsible human being. That is what the Ateneo de Manila is giving you—or what your parents are paying dearly for it to give you.

School of Social Sciences Dear Freshies of SY 2022-23, I am pleased to welcome you to the School of Social Sciences!

One of my favorite social science concepts is Pfaff-Czarnecka’s “university parcours.” University parcours is a metaphor for the processual and dynamic nature of university life. It describes how students move about in difficult and uncertain circumstances toward better positions: in your case, from the challenges of hybrid classes to the hurdles of course requirements to the obstacles of passing exams. As a transformative social space, the university will offer you opportunities to embrace new schemes of engagement with your own self and others as you pursue personal and professional aspirations in the future. Throughout your stay in the Ateneo de Manila University, you will build relationships with peers, teachers, and other members of the university and its partners. Many teachers, administrators, and staff will serve as your life models.

May your university parcours experience be an experience of depth.

Depth, according to Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, the thirtieth Superior General of the Society of Jesus, might be a better translation of the Ignatian magis (which is usually understood as more or greater). Along the theme of OrSem, may you experience depth in standing together with the Ateneo community as men and women for others and socially-caring student citizens. Like Jose Rizal, may you spend many happy years in the Ateneo and have many opportunities for heroic leadership.

I am Dr. Robby Galang, the incoming Dean of the John Gokongwei School of Management, and on behalf of our faculty and staff, we would like to congratulate you on taking your first steps in your Ateneo education.

What makes Ateneo special is that our programs are designed with three key pillars: 1. Innovation. Our goal is to prepare our students for the careers of tomorrow, careers that are designed to co-create novel solutions for our country’s development challenges.

Over the next few years, your learning in the classroom will be complemented by hands-on research experience in SOSE’s state-of-the-art laboratories under the guidance of the country’s top scientists and engineers. As our students, you will contribute to the School’s technical output in the priority areas of Disaster Science and Resilience, Emerging Fields and Technologies, Environmental Sustainability, Public Health and Wellness, and STEM Education. Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design Hello! I am Fr Johnny Go SJ, the Dean of the fifth and newest Loyola School––the Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design. On behalf of my faculty and team, I welcome you warmly to the Ateneo.

As our name implies, we’re not just your traditional school of education.

We’re all about training the learning professionals of the future––not just those working in schools and universities, but wherever learning needs to happen which, of course means everywhere: in any organization, online, and so on. We need outstanding educators and learning professionals, and we think education that pushes limits should be a primary concern.

That’s why our battle cry here in GBSEALD is “BAGO ANG LAHAT, EDUKASYON!” Education as a priority, but also as new and pioneering.

Unfortunately, we’re not yet ready to offer our innovatively designed undergrad program this academic year––but soon. The stairs leading up to our headquarters here in Arete are labeled with verbs that give you a clue on what’s expected of you as learners here in the Ateneo––stimulate, question, pursue, enable, soak, spur… I hope your years at the Ateneo, like ours, will be eye-opening, mind-boggling, and horizon-stretching, but you need to practice the verbs.

Check us out on campus and see how we try to practice the same verbs and many more. You’re welcome to visit us. Better still, consider taking a Minor in Education. We need young and imaginative educators who will explore new frontiers for the Philippines.

Going through your academic journey, you might have questions and concerns. Whether these are about shifting, a minor, a double major, or QPI retention requirements, the Office of the ADAA is here to assist you.

As emphasized by the ORSEM theme Tind!g, we stand together as a community despite the many challenges we confront in the university, the country, and the world. Having gained valuable insights from our two-year-experience in fully online education, the Ateneo is ready once again to adapt to the “next normal” in facilitating student learning. The Loyola Schools administrators, faculty members, professionals, and staff have prepared well and hard to design the courses, formation programs, and student services, so that we can provide you with truly meaningful encounters and enriching lessons in your academic and personal lives in the Loyola Schools.

What makes Ateneo de Manila undergraduate education distinctive is the weaving together of the core curriculum, major disciplinary fields, and co-curricular programs in an integrated formation process that strives to develop in you -- our students and future leaders for our country and the world -- intellectual depth, creative imagination, social involvement, and spiritual maturity. As we end the 500th year commemorating the conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola, let his experience be an inspiration to see education as not just about finding your field of specialization and preparing for your future profession, but more importantly, about discerning your true passion and

Through a royal decree authorized in 1852, ten Spanish Jesuits arrived in Manila.

AUGUST 5

The city council requested that a Jesuit school be financed by public money.

OCTOBER 1

The Governor-General authorized the Jesuits to take over the Escuela Municipal, a small private school located in Intramuros for the children of the Spanish residents.

1865

The Escuela became the Ateneo Municipal de Manila when it became an institution of secondary education, offering bachillerato certificates in agriculture, surveying, and business.

1902

The Ateneo Municipal lost its government subsidy during the American Colonial Rule.

1908

The school was recognized as a college licensed to offer bachelor’s degrees and certificates in various disciplines.

1909

The word “Municipal” was removed from the school’s name and has since been known as the Ateneo de Manila.

American Jesuits took over the administration of the school.

1932

The Ateneo was transferred to Padre Faura, under Father Richard O’Brien, after a fire destroyed the Intramuros campus

1941– 1945

The Ateneo campus was hit during World War 2, leaving only the statue of St. Joseph and the Child Jesus, which now stands in front of the Jesuit Residence in the Loyola Heights Campus.

1946

The Philippines attained its independence and the Padre Faura campus reopened.

1952

Under Fr. William Masterson SJ, the university moved most of its units to its present Loyola Heights campus.

The Padre Faura campus continued to house the professional schools, until 1976.

1959

The Ateneo became a university in its centennial year.

1960

Ateneans pushed for an Ateneo which was rooted more deeply in Filipino values by pushing for the use of Filipino for instruction and for the university to implement reforms that addressed the growing poverty and injustice in the country.

The Graduate school split into the Graduate School of the Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Economics and Business Administration, which then became the Graduate School of Business.

Pacifico Ortiz, SJ became the first Filipino president of the Ateneo de Manila.

1973

The Ateneo College opened its doors to its first female students and left the NCAA due to violence in the league.

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences moved to Loyola Heights and the Graduate School of Business and the Law School moved to Makati.

1987

The Ateneo joined the UAAP.

1991

The School of Law phased out its Bachelor of Laws degree, becoming the first Philippine law school to confer the Juris Doctor degree.

1994

The Ateneo was one of the first Philippine schools on the Internet, and was part of the conference that connected the Philippines to the World Wide Web.

1996

The Ateneo School of Government was established and the Ateneo Computer Technology Center was relaunched as the Ateneo Information Technology Institute.

2000

The School of Arts and Sciences was restructured into the four Loyola Schools: the School of Humanities, the John Gokongwei School of Management, the School of Science and Engineering, and the School of Social Sciences.

The office of the University President established Pathways to Higher Education, one of the university’s outreach initiatives, with the help of the Ford and Synergia Foundations.

The Church of the Gesu was completed on the Feast Day of St. Ignatius.

The Ateneo became the second Philippine university to earn the highest possible accreditation status (Level IV) from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) and the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU)

2006

The Manuel V. Pangilinan Center for Student Leadership was completed. The University began the development of several projects: the Ricardo Leong Hall, the Confucius Institute for Chinese Studies, as well as the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in Ortigas.

2008

From 2008 to 2010, the University’s basketball teams won three consecutive championships in both UAAP men’s and juniors basketball, the only double three-peat in UAAP and NCAA combined history.

The school ushered in its 150th anniversary.

John Gokongwei School of Management The John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) is in the forefront of shaping students into business leaders who are equipped with skills in mobilizing resources, taking risks, and developing products and services in order to respond to the needs of tomorrow’s world. As a recognized center of excellence and leadership in undergraduate business education, it produces graduates who are technically proficient and analytical, yet humanistic and people-oriented. With its eight innovative management programs consisting of liberal arts and business curriculum, JGSOM provides the students with a broad-based perspective of the

School of Humanities The School of Humanities (SOH) is home for students who are passionate about the arts, languages, literature, spirituality, and life in general. Through a multicultural perspective and liberalistic education in the humanities, students are trained to be articulate and critical, imaginative and productive, rooted in their own culture yet open to other cultures, proactive in their global environment, and strongly committed to faith and justice. The goal of SOH is to form individuals who have a degree of expertise in their chosen field and who are also committed to social transformation. School of Science and Engineering As Science & Technology continues to change our lives in resolving environmental issues, the School of Science and Engineering (SOSE) commits to creating future scientists, researchers, educators, learners, and leaders that are grounded in scientific principles. At the same time, SOSE is geared towards being a recognized leader in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to serve the Philippine and world sectors. Through teaching and scientific research, it seeks to empower individuals and communities to engage the diversity of social reality toward local, national, and global transformation, in the Jesuit tradition of service to the faith and the promotion of justice. The Ateneo Core Curriculum Fostering integral, interdisciplinary, and Ignatian formation The heart of Ateneo education is its core curriculum.

As a Jesuit educational institution, the goal of the Ateneo de Manila is the integral formation of persons of discernment, learning, and action. With Christ as the model and inspiration of what it means to be fully human, the aim of the University is to form leaders in service of the global and local community, especially the poor, vulnerable, and excluded — professionals of conscience, competence, compassion, and commitment.

The core curriculum was revised to incorporate the changes brought about by the K-12 basic education reform and the new requirements of the revised CHED General Education (GE) curriculum, beginning School Year 2018-2019. But more importantly, the review process and the new

FRESHMAN ADVISORY MARKS Advisory marks are given to students after the ninth week of instruction during the first and second semesters of their freshman year. These grades represent the evaluation of a student’s performance for this period. By the very nature of advisory marks, they are not official and will not appear on the student’s transcript of records.

QUALITY POINT INDEX (QPI) The QPI or weighted average is the measure of the quality of a student’s general academic performance for a regular academic term. The QPI determines a student’s promotion to the next year level. The QPI is also one component for determining graduation or separation from the Loyola Schools. It is also used to determine semestral and graduation honors.

QPI COMPUTATION The QPI is computed by: • Multiplying the quality point value of the letter grades in each course by the number of credit units in the course, and • Adding these products and dividing the result by the total number of units taken during the academic term

To determine your QPI, a calculator was designed and developed by the Computer Society of the Ateneo.

Grades in bridging/basic subjects INTACT, PE and NSTP are not included in the computation of the QPI. For regular students, the yearly QPI is computed on the basis of the total load taken in the school year. Irregular students should consult the Office of the ADAA for the computation of their yearly QPI. Students who do not meet the QPI requirement for their year level shall be separated from the Loyola Schools unless they appeal for probation and their appeal is granted. Students may be admitted on probation and

allowed to continue their studies upon the recommendation of the Standards Committee to the Vice President for the Loyola Schools.

Students may be granted probation only once during their entire stay in the Loyola Schools.

No second probation is given.

Students who are on academic probation may not officially represent the school in academic, co-curricular, or extracurricular activities, such as inter-collegiate competitions, workshops, and conferences.

QPI Requirements FOR GRADUATION One of the requirements for graduation is for a Senior/Fifth Year student to meet a minimum QPI of 2.00 for Senior Year.

The Ateneo de Manila Learning Modalities ONSITE These are the regular mode of classes during SY 2022-2023, first semester. Majority of the contact hours will be onsite with online components through a learning management system such as Canvas. These online components may be synchronous or asynchronous but will be consistently designed to supplement the face-to-face classes. Note that students approved for fully online classes will not be allowed to register for onsite classes.

FLEX Majority of the contact hours will be onsite but provisions for synchronous online participation and asynchronous components will be integrated. This mode accepts both online and onsite students. Note that approved online students may not, in any circumstance, attend onsite meetings.

FULLY ONLINE Much like most of the past two years in the pandemic, all of the contact hours will be online with asynchronous components to supplement the synchronous sessions. Fully online classes will prioritize online students who have health concerns. Regular students, however, are also welcome to enlist depending on how a fully online class is tagged.

CLASS SCHEDULES Twice a week classes (every Monday-Thursdays and TuesdayFridays) will be conducted for 1.5 hours. Once a week classes (every Wednesdays and Saturdays) will be conducted for 3 hours.

Laboratory class schedules are aligned with the schedule slots of lecture classes to minimize student schedule conflicts. Activity periods will be conducted every Tuesdays & Fridays at 5:00-6:30 PM.

The Loyola Schools INFAF Program The Loyola Schools’ InAF program is aimed towards the formation of persons-for-and-with-others who will contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Philippine society as servant-leaders engaged in various fields of endeavor. In line with the formation of the whole person characteristic of Jesuit education, the InAF program seeks to provide students with opportunities that can help develop and integrate the personal, academic, socio-cultural, and spiritual dimensions that comprise each student’s person. In forming students to be professionals for and with others, the InAF program seeks to develop graduates who are: able to apply their academic competence and training in the service of nation building; conscious of their responsibilities as global citizens; guided by Ignatian discernment and rooted in a personal relationship with God; strongly oriented to faith and justice; and critically rooted in their culture. In the spirit of cura personalis, formation in the Loyola Schools takes on an updated, new yet accessible face through the AteneoBlueCloud.

Introduction to Ateneo Culture and Traditions (InTACT): First Year The InTACT program aims to help freshmen develop self-awareness and self-empowerment by providing them with opportunities to take a closer look at themselves and at how they relate to their family, friends, school, country, and God. The InTACT program is designed to assist students in their academic adjustment to college life; raise their self-awareness; introduce them to the value of Ignatian Spirituality; and develop their sense of community and awareness of social realities.

National Service Training Program – Plus (NSTP- Plus): Second Year The NSTP-Plus program seeks to develop the ethics of social involvement and patriotism among sophomores as they undergo training in any of the following components—Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), Literacy Training Service (LTS), or the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC). The program provides students with opportunities to get to know their neighbors from the marginalized sectors of society and to respond to the call of being a gift to others through their particular academic disciplines or fields of interest.

These opportunities also hope to deepen the students’ knowledge of themselves through the continuous exploration of their gifts.

Junior Engagement Program (JEEP): Third Year The JEEP is designed to provide opportunities that will allow students to critically engage in the life experiences of people who experience, or work to address the reality of marginalization. Through these experiences, it is hoped that students will gain an understanding of the various contexts of the “other” in relation to economic, political, and socio-cultural realities as well as grow in social responsibility.

Senior Integration Program (SIP): Fourth Year The SIP aims to help graduating students reflect on and integrate their Ateneo college experience in light of their personal vocation and the call to help build the nation. By helping seniors discern how their respective disciplines and future career decisions can respond effectively to societal needs, the program seeks to form graduates who will be catalysts for change as professionals-for-and-with-others. It forms leaders who possess a strong sense of their personal giftedness, competence in their respective fields of study, a genuine desire and commitment to be of service to the nation, and a capacity to ground their decisions in Ignatian discernment.

As you begin your college journey, we’d like to introduce you to your first-year formation program: the Introduction to Ateneo Culture and Traditions (InTACT) Program.

InTACT is a year-long program that assists first-year students with their transition to Ateneo college life, provides opportunities for continuing self-discovery and greater self-awareness, and introduces them to the school’s culture and traditions which are rooted in Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit values.

Each class is placed under the care of a homeroom adviser and a partner student facilitator who handle weekly sessions aimed at helping firstyear students get to know themselves better as they undergo Ateneo’s holistic formation program.

The InTACT Program also introduces the value of Ignatian Spirituality, and first-year students are provided an opportunity to spend time in silence, reflection, and prayer through the Coming Home Recollection or Retreat.

Moreover, InTACT partners with the Understanding the Self course (SocSc 11) where students undergo the BINHI Program — a social interaction and development program that gives students an opportunity to interact with marginalized communities or various institutional advocacy programs.

Ignatian Spirituality By the Office of Campus Ministry But first, what is spirituality? Think of your relative with a collection of saints’ statues, novenas or stampitas. You might remember them praying without fail every night. Those things are not spirituality per se but are aids comprising a part of their spirituality, or their way of living in relationship with God. James Martin, SJ mentions in his book The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything: A Spirituality for Real Life: “A spirituality is like a bridge... Every spirituality offers you a distinctive ‘passage’ to God.” There is a wide variety of spiritualities in the Christian tradition, each with its own way of living, praying, and being in the world to foster greater union with God and God’s people. Spirituality helps us live a holy and loving life. ‘Helps’ meaning we may not end up being holy or loving if we still choose not to be. The point of spirituality in the Christian sense is to help one enter into and deepen a relationship with God, who is Love and is in love with us, and help us share this love to the world. Ignatian spirituality is one way, one passage. It is the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. It is the underlying spirit that gave birth to the Ateneo. It is what guides and inspires Ateneo. The following are some of the main values upheld by the Ignatian Tradition: FINDING GOD IN ALL THINGS For Ignatius, God is in all creation and can be found in every circumstance of life—in the ordinary or extraordinary, in joy or even in sorrow. I’ve always had a knack for imagining worst-case scenarios.

No matter how well things may seem to be going my way, I could never get rid of the nagging feeling that I’d have the rug pulled from under my feet. To some extent, it did soften the blow of disappointment whenever my cynicism turned to be right but, because of this, I’ve never been able to fully enjoy bigger causes for celebration, however welldeserved I think they may have been.

I’ve only begun to grow out of my skepticism when the Ateneo taught me to love and be happy regardless. Now, where I would normally let doubt and fears of rejection and being hurt reign, I let gratitude for even the smallest of things blossom. The urge to anticipate the worst is an itch that I doubt would vanish completely, but I’ve learned to find solace in small moments of solidarity with classmates after successfully negotiating deadline extensions, of serenity when I tune in to the rustling of leaves to get by a stressful day, of laughter when lectures are interrupted by corny side comments, and of love when I remember that I am appreciated, rain or shine.

Welcome to the Ateneo and welcome to reality. You won’t always be right, you won’t always be the smartest one in the class, you won’t always have all the answers, and that’s ok. There are days when you’ll be at your brightest and best - embrace those days. There are days when you’ll feel like the world is threatening to swallow you whole - find God in those days, too.

Surely there will be plenty of challenges, and there will be moments when you might question your decision to come here. But when things get tough, I hope that you’d remember to look up even for just a little bit, survey your surroundings, and discover that you are never alone here.

Anyone and everyone you see in this school can be a friend should you wish or need them to be. I have so much more I wish to say, but I guess I’ll leave that for when you set foot in my classroom. Ooh boy, that’s going to be a lot of fun!

I’m hesitant to give advice because the Ateneo you’ll be entering is so different from the one that I entered in 2019. But if anything remains true, no matter the context or climate, it’s that you have to be present in the moment, especially with your friends. I thought college would be about independence, comingof-age, and self-assuredness that were all meant to be faced alone and all meant to further my own personal growth. I spent a lot of time worrying about how the foundations I set up in freshman year would affect my life postgrad. In reality, college is a lot more forgiving than that. I missed out on so many lunches, dinners, and hangouts with blockmates

to do more important things but failed to realize that those were important too. That said, take photos of everything. Go out with your friends even if you could really use the extra sleep.

Enter Ateneo with shameless enthusiasm, even if others don’t think it’s cool. It still feels like yesterday that I was a freshman leaving campus to study out with my friends. Now, I’m a senior finally coming back home. Enjoy it.

Office of Guidance and Counseling (OGC) Do you need to get something off your chest? Get connected with some of the most dedicated counselors on campus who are ready to listen! The Office of Guidance and Counseling offers an array of student services that cater to your general psychosocial and psycho-emotional wellbeing, such as Counseling, Enrichment Activities, and Routine Interviews. Rizal Library

The Rizal Library is the university’s official school library and it has been a part of the LS campus ever since its completion in 2009. Aside from having access to thousands of books and publications, the library also offers a lot of other services and facilities you can take advantage of. Here are the most convenient and interesting facts about the Rizal Library!

Computers Computers can be accessed on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th floors for your personal use. This is most helpful when writing essays for your various core and major subjects. On the 1st floor, you can find these at the First Pacific Hall where you can also self-study. On the 3rd and 4th floors you also have access to these self-study areas and additional printing services offered in the area.

Printing Printing at the library costs 1 peso per page and can help you when submitting hard copies of your schoolwork. The self-study areas offer a place to focus when getting ready for your next test. In fact, there are even couches with sockets nearby if you want to feel cozy (or doze off) when studying!

Studying But, if you want to study with your friends, then the topmost 5th floor is the place for you! Lots of couches, chairs, and tables are found in this room, and you are definitely allowed to make some noise with others. This multipurpose hall is also where various conferences and org activities are held, so you can really see that a lot goes around in the library!

Relaxing If you’re looking to have some fun and relax, the 3rd floor of the library offers fun activities such as board game rentals and conducting your very own film screening at the ABS-CBN Audio Visual Room!

Digital Services The Rizal Library’s presence goes beyond the campus! Through their online operations, you can request for the digitization of print materials, access Turnitin for plagiarism detection and more, look through Harvard Business Publishing’s cases and simulations, and obtain data from the Philippine Statistics’ Authority’s datasets. Make sure to contact Rizal Library to know more about the processes!

The Rizal Library is a great place to accomplish a number of different tasks when it comes to your academics. With all the services that they offer such as book borrowing, printing, charging places, and common studying areas, these can surely help you get that A in your next class! But don’t forget that the library also gives you a chance to rest and relax with utilities such as board games, film screenings, and couches for sleeping whenever you need a quick energy boost.

The Ateneo de Manila University Disaster Response and Management (DReaM) Team is the main engine for the University’s disaster relief and rehabilitation work. Gender Hub

In the Ateneo, everyone is accepted and most importantly, celebrated.

The Gender Hub serves as the diversity and equality office of the Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools whose main goal is to provide a safe spaces, whether online or on campus, for members of the LGBTQIA+ community to process issues in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE). The Gender Hub also provides holistic care and support for complainants during the handling of cases of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual and gender-based violence, and other forms of sexual and gender-based offenses.

Sanggunian Services The Sanggunian is the sole autonomous undergraduate student government of the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University.

We commit ourselves to protect the rights and advance the welfare of the Ateneo Student Body, raise the student body’s critical awareness of and proactive response to issues affecting society and the environment, and strive to develop a cultural sense of school spirit and effective student participation in its activities.

Commission on Disability Inclusion

Curriculum-Based Initiatives.

The Commission recognizes that the university could improve on the inclusion of the PWD sector in their thrusts in training their students to be conscious of relevant social issues and realities, as well as to be men and women for others. As such, CDI aims to give recommendations to the current curriculum that would integrate PWD awareness and understanding in its courses.

The Sanggunian: Commission on Disability Inclusion (CDI) aims to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and to promote acceptance and respect for the sector to the Loyola Schools community. The commission envisions a diverse and inclusive Loyola Schools community where persons and students with disabilities (SWDs) have full and effective participation and inclusion in society on an equal basis with others.

Ateneo SWDs Research and Consultations. The commission recognizes the diversity of disability, wherein each person with disability has a specific set of needs and accommodations.

With this in mind, it is necessary to collect and update data coming from the SWD sector within the community. Data coming from this initiative will serve as a guide towards planning future projects and initiatives of the commission to better serve SWDs. As such, CDI aims to facilitate comprehensive data gathering

Information Campaigns for Disability. The commission recognizes that there is a need to promote the diversity, inclusion, and acceptance of disability to a wide audience. These efforts could be promoted through both traditional and online media.

As such, CDI aims to launch information campaigns regarding the topic of disability, specifically highlighting the different types of disabilities.

Commission on Anti-Sexual Misconduct and Violence The Sanggunian: Commission on Anti-Sexual Misconduct and Violence (CASMV) serves as a safe space for victim-survivors of sexual misconduct and violence to be heard and supported. The commission prioritizes the wellbeing and safety of survivors above all things, upholds the dignity of survivors, continuously advocates for survivor-centric policies, and campaigns for the elimination of sexual and genderbased violence.

Procedure for availing of services: 1. Victim-survivors who want to speak to someone on their experience of sexual misconduct or violence may send a message to CASMV’s Facebook or Twitter, or send an email to casmv.ls@obf. ateneo.edu.

2. A CASMV first responder will listen and offer peer-level support to the victim-survivor through their preferred online platform.

3. After CASMV provides the first response, the victimsurvivor may request to be connected to the LS Gender Hub for further support. The LS Gender Hub can offer

Commission on Mental Health The Sanggunian: Commission on Mental Health (CMH) aims to provide students within the Loyola Schools the avenues for mental health relief and bridge them with support services which may aid in their mental health concerns.

The Commission envisions a more sensitive, empathetic, and compassionate community that recognizes a healthy mind as a necessary component of student life.

Humans of Ateneo. Humans of Ateneo is CMH’s flagship social media campaign which aims to share stories of resilience among Ateneo students and alumni.

Notable features are that of Hyacenth Bendana, Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan, Fr. Jett Villarin, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, and Mayor Vico Sotto.

World Mental Health Day. To be held in October, this year’s World Mental Health Day will be a week-long celebration featuring online initiatives, campaigns, and webinars highlighting the importance of one’s mental health to personal growth and reaffirming the relevance of mental health matters to the student community.

Mental Health Awareness + Action Week (MHAW). Serving as the culminating event of the Commission, MHAW consists of projects and events aligned with the advocacy of raising awareness and reducing stigma on mental health, while encouraging proactive efforts geared towards promoting a community conducive to mental health.

Peer Support Program. In coordination with the Loyola

Schools Office of Guidance and Counseling (LSOGC), the Commission on Mental Health will be holding peer support group sessions monthly to provide a safe space for interested students. In every session, counselors and student facilitators will listen, empathize, withhold judgments or prescriptions, and keep everything confidential.

Aside from managing regular support group sessions, PSP will also serve as an avenue to receive concerns and complaints from students while providing them with assistance and referrals.

Gender Crash Course: SOGIE 101. Have you wondered what SOGIE is? Are you curious why pronouns matter? Do you want to know how to be a better ally?

Assistance for SOGIE-related Concerns. Members of the Loyola Schools who have encountered SOGIE-related concerns may approach the Commission through its social media accounts for instances of discrimination such as homophobic or transphobic remarks. Commission on SocioPolitical Development The Commission on SocioPolitical Development (CSPD) is the Sanggunian arm that aims to strengthen and embed political awareness in all Ateneans. We aim to create avenues that serve as bridges between the students and the social realities on the ground. We also hope to create safeguards to protect our students and, to an extent, alumni.

Sociopolitical Harassment Helpdesk. Members of the Ateneo Community who would like support or advice on how to move forward after being Red-tagged or harassed based on their socio political beliefs may message CSPD’s sociopolitical harassment helpdesk. The helpdesk aims to refer those who have experienced Red-Tagging or harassment by referring them to various University offices that can provide

psycho-social support, legal assistance, and support for safety and security.

Central Assembly The Central Assembly is the constitutional and official deliberating body and legislative arm of the Sanggunian.

Comprising representatives of the different schools and sectors within the Loyola Schools and its administrative staff, the Central Assembly is the primary avenue for the exchange of ideas and advocacies of students and transforming it into progressive policies that are directed towards the development of the Loyola Schools Student Body and its stakeholders.

School Sanggunians (JGSOM, SOH, SOSE, SOSS) The School Sanggunian offers various services in order to address the needs and provide assistance to the students. They provide subsidies incorporating both Sanggunian Academic Subsidy and Resource Partnership Program that provide financial support to graduating students on their theses and organizations seeking partnership for their projects.

Sanggunian Academic Subsidy.

The Sanggunian Academic Subsidy (SAS) is a service of the School Sanggunians which aims to serve the students by financially supporting them in their projects, thesis, or any other major requirement through providing funds for any expenses they may incur. Any undergraduate of the Loyola Schools is eligible to apply as long as they are submitting their requirements in partial fulfillment of any requirement in the class they are enrolled in.

STEP 1: PREPARATION A.

Make sure to fill out your health declaration form and generate your BluePass through Ateneo’s BluPHR at bluepass.ateneo.edu.

Don’t forget to update your health record! If you don’t have onsite classes, fret not! You can still go on campus for office visits and make use of the libraries and study areas.

B. Know where to go. Use the campus map in the journal to help you find your way!

C. Ensure you have everything you need. Peek at our What’s In My Bag section and get tips on what you may need to bring. (Spoiler alert: lots of mosquito protection!)

Chairperson, OrSem 2022: Tindig 4 AB Management Economics Hey there freshies & transferees, welcome to Ateneo! I hope that you will enjoy and appreciate what OrSem 2022: Tindig has in store for you!

Like you, I was once an excited and nervous freshie, unsure of the journey that lay ahead. However, OrSem provided me not only a safe and welcoming environment, but also an opportunity to hone my skills, meet like-minded people, and form bonds and friendships that I still hold on to this day.

From joining the community as a volunteer back in my sophomore year, to being a part of OrCom in my junior year, and now serving as one of your Chairpersons – the one lesson I’ve learned all these years is that in spite and despite of the numerous hurdles thrown our way, the resiliency, creativity, and innovative thinking in times of uncertainty allows the entire community of volunteers to continually rise to the challenge time and time again.

I personally cannot wait to see you all very soon, and hopefully like me, you will be able to find a home in OrSem, and more importantly – a home here in Ateneo. Kita-kits Freshies!

Three years ago, I was once in your shoes—starting off a new journey with mixed emotions. A part of me was nervous but also excited. As you enter college, you may have your own set of expectations. Regardless of who you are, one thing is common between you and your fellow batchmates: you all hope to feel a sense of belongingness.

Being a part of OrSem always made me feel like I belong. As a freshie, I was a bit confused with what the hype was for this event. As a volunteer and now OrSem Chairperson, I realize how much Ateneo is a home.

We enter the Ateneo uncertain of what the coming years have in store for us, but there is beauty in this uncertainty. You will be challenged from time to time, but you will also find yourself surrounded by pockets of hope, love, and joy.

Now that it is your time to be a part of OrSem, I encourage you all to be open–minded to the welcoming support your fellow upperclassmen hope to give you as you enter college! Now go enjoy your OrSem—you’ll always remember this milestone in yourlife!
