MAKE A DIFFERENCE

REMOVING OBSTACLES Accessibility has been at the heart of Ormond from its foundations.

You can transform the lives of students by removing financial obstacles, enabling talented students to benefit from the experiences, conversations, and friendships which Ormond provides. For many students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, rural and regional areas, Indigenous students and students with families experiencing financial hardship, coming to university and college is only possible by accessing significant financial support. Over half of all rural students rely on financial assistance to come to Ormond. This year we ask you to consider a donation to the Harold ‘Pompey’ Elliott Scholarship for Rural Students, as well as our access and diversity scholarship programs, and much needed funds to replace the roof of our College Chapel. With your support, we can ensure more students from diverse backgrounds and experiences can call Ormond home, make their own individual contributions to our College which in turn benefits our entire community.

Coming from a small country town, living at Ormond remained a dream. The financial assistance I’m receiving means much more than the numerical value – it has given me opportunities which were unimaginable until I came here, and has broadened my horizons in the truest sense.” – Ivana Skok (Arts 2) Bethanga Victoria, Rural Scholarship

HAROLD ‘POMPEY’ ELLIOTT RURAL SCHOLARSHIP General Harold ‘Pompey’ Elliott was a remarkable Australian and Ormondian. A soldier, lawyer and politician, he is most remembered as a charismatic and outstandingly successful military leader during WWI. Ormond was deeply touched by the Great War. Ormond people not only fought in the War but they also led, and Pompey was perhaps the most famous among them. Pompey grew up in Charlton, Victoria. He came to Ormond while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne and remained deeply connected to the College, being President of the Old Ormond Students’ Association and a member of the College’s Council. A scholarship has been established in his name for students from regional or rural Australia in need of financial support to join our community. Annual Giving code: AG-RS

A community such as Ormond has made me feel so comfortable in pushing myself to be the best version of myself both academically and socially. I am so lucky to be here and I am making the most of it.” – Dean Luhan (Arts 1) Wangaratta Victoria, Rural Scholarship

Ormond has helped me further my goals for the future. I’ve had many opportunities to attend events, be a part of clubs and societies and even take the reins of the Indigenous Sub-Committee.” – Ryan Archer (Science 3) Tweed Heads NSW, Indigenous Scholarship

RESTORING THE ORMOND CHAPEL ROOF This year the Ormond Chapel celebrates 100 years since it first opened as the College Library. With its beautiful stained glass windows, the lofty Chapel in Main Building is a space for prayer, reflection, and congregation for people of “all faiths and none”. The Chapel is also a much-loved venue for musical performances, theatre productions and guest speakers. Time has weathered the Chapel’s original slate roof which has now come to the end of its life. The entire roof must be replaced as an immediate priority to prevent water damage to the Chapel and Main Building. We need your help. Past Annual Giving programs have supported restoration projects on stonework around Main Building including the western facade, Parker Terrace entrance and parts of the Tower. Our capital projects strategy is part of an ongoing commitment to the conservation of our magnificent buildings. With your support, our built heritage can be enjoyed for years to come. Annual Giving code: AG-OCR

Restoration details The cost of replacing the entire Chapel roof is estimated at $140,000, which is beyond the College’s budget for capital works.
