Thank You Friends of the Library On Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Christmas Carols with a Twist, The Friends of the Orland Park Public Library presented Assistant Library Director Anthony Andros with a check for $8,000 to help advance the cause of the library by helping pay for engaging and educational classes, storytimes, and discussion events. Please consider donating gently-used books to the library’s Friends. Books can be dropped off at the desk in the

lobby of the library. Donations may be tax-deductible as this nonprofit has a 501(c)(3) designation. Consult your tax professional. To purchase gently-used books, DVDs, and Blu-rays; visit the library during normal hours. Bring your selection from Recycled Reads (located across from the main staircase) to the Patron Services Desk in the lobby to pay. The library’s Friends are looking for volunteers to help restock Recycled Reads. Email aandros@orlandparklibrary.org for more information. Become a Friend of the library today! Visit the Friends of the Library webpage on the library website, and pay your $5 membership dues to start giving back to your community.

Sock Drive Month of April

In celebration of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, we are holding a Sock Drive for charity. Socks collected will be donated to Together We Cope in Tinley Park, a prevention agency that helps families in crisis.

Little Free Food Pantry Girl Scouts, Jenna and Hailey of Troop 60049, have created a Little Free Pantry that is now installed on the grounds of the library. They will receive the Silver Award for their efforts to help curb food insecurity in the Orland Park community. Their scout leaders Sandy Murray and Ellen Haddad helped coach the scouts to find the building plans for the pantry and to raise money for the materials. Hailey’s dad, Nate Krupko, took the lead with helping build and guiding the girls through the building and painting of the Little Free Pantry. The scouts did a yard sign fundraiser in which each girl designed a yard sign with a hopeful message, as related to the pandemic. They sold the signs to help promote hope throughout the community and to raise money for the pantry materials. The Little Free Pantry is now open to residents who would like to donate nonperishable food items and/or toiletries. Items may be brought to the Patron Services Desk inside the library.
