We are delighted to present the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2024-2025 Season!
The Classics and Pops Series will be performed in Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center, one of the world’s most acoustically perfect spaces listed in Architectural Digest’s “Most Beautiful Theaters in the World” list. The 32nd Season, programmed by Music Director Eric Jacobsen, will feature programs showcasing the heroes among us. Artists will break barriers on and off the stage, the musical hero will persist against all odds, and the strengths of humanity will work against the challenges we all face, but ultimately unite us through the power of live music.
The 2024-2025 Classics Series will feature Violinist Grace Park and Young Concert Artist Ying Li, Concertmaster Rimma Bergeron-Langlois, as well as author, narrator, and filmmaker Jamie Bernstein, daughter of Leonard Bernstein. American singer and GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter Aoife O’Donovan and New York Philharmonic Principal Clarinetist Anthony McGill will return to Orlando. The Philharmonic will welcome Laura Jackson and Alejandro Gómez Guillén as guest conductors to the podium.
The Pops Series will feature Byron Stripling, Principal Pops conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, on Home for the Holidays. The legendary music of John Williams in a performance of the most well-known music for film you don’t want to miss! In addition, the return of a movie performance of box office sensation Jurassic Park and a world premiere of the multi-talented Broadway phenomenon and Orlando Hometown Hero Michael James Scott in A Dream is Wish.
You will enjoy Symphony Storytime Series performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, Holiday Harmonies, Ferdinand the Bull, as well as Hansel and Gretel - all perfect for the littlest ears. The Focus Series will spotlight your Orlando Philharmonic Musicians at the newly renovated The Plaza Live in the Milk District. And so much more!

OPENING NIGHT FEATURING AOIFE O’DONOVAN WITH CHOIR
Opening Night welcomes the return of GRAMMY Awardwinning Aoife O’Donovan whose enchanting melodies and evocative lyrics weave an unforgettable musical tapestry about the women heroes in her piece America, Come. This work is inspired by the lives and letters of the Women’s Suffrage Movement in a musical exploration of voting rights for women during the 1920’s. Then, immerse yourself in the soundscape of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 composed during his heroic election into the Bohemian Academy of Sciences. Every note in the Symphony explores a journey through landscapes and stirring melodies, sure to captivate you with its grandeur and passion.

Jamie Bernstein, daughter of legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, joins the Orlando Philharmonic for a must-see program. Jamie embodies a profound connection to her father’s music and is an advocate for his musical legacy. The vibrant Candide Overture, the energetic Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, jazz rhythms from On the Town, and the ethereal beauty of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Jamie will share her insights into the music and Leonard’s interpretations, reflecting on the understanding and emotional connection to the music. Further sharing the deep appreciation audiences worldwide have for these heroic masterpieces of classical music.

Embark on a musical journey with Richard Strauss’ “Ein Heldenleben” (A Hero’s Life), a symphonic poem that paints a vivid portrait of heroism, passion, and triumph. Through lush orchestrations and soaring melodies, Strauss takes listeners on a journey, from the hero’s valiant exploits to moments of tender reflection and ultimate victory. “Ein Heldenleben” stands as a testament to Strauss’ mastery of orchestral storytelling, captivating audiences and will leave you spellbound with its power and emotional depth. Returning to the stage, New York Philharmonic Principal Clarinetist Anthony McGill will perform a World Premiere concerto written by Gabe Kahane.
Concertmaster Rimma Bergeron-Langlois takes the stage to perform Dvořák’s Violin Concerto blending artistry and musical excellence. Dvořák’s work demands technical mastery and emotional depth from the violin with its soaring melodies and tender lyricism that will display Rimma’s profound musical talents and heroism. Guest Conductor Alejandro Gómez Guillén will conduct Elgar’s stirring Enigma Variations, Montgomery’s “Strum,” and Akiho’s “Petroglyphs.” The musicians of the Philharmonic are sure to leave you inspired and under a captive spell.

Few composers have left a heroic mark in the way Beethoven has on the world of classical music. Be amazed as the Philharmonic welcomes Young Concert Artist Ying Li to the stage under the baton of Laura Jackson for a captivating program of all Beethoven music, featuring three of his most iconic works. Fidelio Overture is a true testament to Beethoven’s intensity as a composer written for his only opera, Fidelio, showcases themes of love, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit. Then, be enchanted by Piano Concerto No. 4 full of beauty and splendor where piano and orchestra weave together an exquisite dialogue. Conclude the concert with the monumental and triumphant Symphony No. 3 “Eroica.” A masterpiece in its own right is a pivotal moment in time for classical music as the transition from Classicism and Romanticism.

Grace Park takes the stage to perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with its delicate Adagio and feisty Finale. Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony is an orchestral tour de force, showcasing the full power of the orchestra. From the soaring melodies, thundering brass, and exploration of themes of fate and struggle, this is an unforgettable concert spotlighting the heroes on our hometown stage and the masters of classical music.

The Symphony invites all fans to attend in their favorite dinosaur or Jurassic Park costume. During the concert, please be considerate and make sure the costume does not impede the ability of other patrons to enjoy the performance. This program will have an intermission.

Vanhal’s Double Bassoon Concert will highlight one of the true gems of the orchestra in a lively and rich piece. Experience the Classical Era elegance and grace of Mozart’s Violin Concerto. Coleridge-Taylor’s Four Novelletten concludes the program pulling from African-American and British traditions to create a diverse and emotional melody. This program will create an evening of music showcasing the depth of the OPO Musicians and rich repertoire.

Anchors aweigh! Seaweed Sam has sailed the seas for many years. But, when a tsunami lands them in an orchestra pit, it’s a first for the marooned pirate. It’s up to the maestro, musicians, and audience (the honorary pirate crew!) to steer the ship in a new direction. It’s all horns on deck as the orchestra takes to sea with their fearless pirate leader to find hidden treasure and make a few sea friends along the way. This whale of a tale dives deep into riptide rhapsodies, aquatic arpeggios, fishy fanfares, and tuneful trivia. Lifejackets on, fins up, ears open. Let’s set sail!
