Deep Breaths at Hogmanay Early sundown flares before slate twilight blankets Hauxley beach. Chill brine seeps through her trainers as Coquet lighthouse blinks, breezes freshen and pick up from the northeast. Ecstatic, relieved, she burns with urges to sing and dance. She doesn’t care who sees. Survival means she’ll have a chance to see another year. Despair in remission, she’s vitalised and freed. Ceinwen E Cariad Haydon
