VOLLEYBALL TEAM—CHAMPS OF CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT If you see a Springville volleyball player walking a little taller than usual it’s to be expected. Wrapping up an undefeated season in the Tri-Rivers West last week and then making their championship official with a sweep over the two day tournament, who could blame the girls for having an added spring in their step? On Thursday, right here at home inside Machovec Gymnasium, the girls opened up the tournament handling Alburnett (21-6 and 21-8) before sweeping Lisbon (21-10 and 21-12). Thursday’s victories moved them into the championship bracket on Saturday, again inside Machovec. The Orioles faced off against a much improved Cedar Valley Christian team and won it in two sets (25-13 and 25-9). That win moved them to the right on the bracket and set up the fourth match this year with Bellevue Marquette who is always a tough opponent. The O’s stayed hot and took care of the Lady Mohawks (25-16 and 25-21) to move into the championship match. The Lady Riverhawks of Easton Valley certainly had an upset in mind but it wasn’t meant to be, Springville won both sets (25-12 and 25-19) to earn outright championship honors. With such domination over the season and with the girls playing so well, an obviously pleased Coach Howard shared, “Our team is finishing the season well and as we wanted, with good momentum and solid volleyball all around. We felt today showed what we are capable of when we execute consistently and follow the game plan. We feel like we are getting better and using our full compliment of tools when attacking. Our setters are getting involved in the scoring a little more which also makes us tougher all around. Really proud and excited about the way the team performed today and we are all looking forward to post-season preparation". The post season began with a first round bye and their opponent? With a Tuesday night win over Central City, Cedar Valley earns a return trip to Machovec to match up against Springville. That game will be Monday evening at 7pm. Clear your calendar and join us for another evening of volleyball. The winner advances for an October 27th match once again at Springville. It’s a great day to be an Oriole! (In photo above, Karli Nulle captures that winning moment, evident on the faces of the girls and especially with Coach Howard’s fist pump. Below is a team photo of your 2016 Champions)
