Dear Residents:

Each year our employees develop their annual plan with an emphasis on community input, services offered, economic changes and popular trends. The results of their efforts are visible in our parks, throughout our programs and our end of year statistics. A recent community survey identified 89% of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with the services offered. Participation numbers have increased by more than 30%, fund balances continue to increase, and the District remains committed to improving existing infrastructure.

The District continues to implement feedback from surveys and focus groups to develop a long-term vision. This long-term vision will include many upgrades to our aging infrastructure as we prepare for the future. It is important to note, the vision is a way for the park district to accurately plan and prioritize projects in a fiscally responsible way.

As we round out 2019 and look to 2020, I invite you to experience the many opportunities woven through the pages of the new guide. Bundle up and fill the season with quality family time, fitness and fun as the Oregon Park District Board of Commissioners and staff continue to ‘Create Fun for a Lifetime’.

Note from Director

Construction began in August on park improvements at Park West. Due to an unseasonably cold and wet fall, construction will need to be extended and completed in the spring of 2020. Park improvements will include a fully inclusive playground, a larger restroom and shelter building, improved accessibility at the amphitheater, batting cage, new sand volleyball courts, baggo courts, toro court and an outdoor classroom. The improvements align with the results of a community survey in 2018 and the District master plan. We cannot wait to see the community at play in this phenomenal space that is sure to be the crown jewel of the Oregon Park District. This project is possible because of $400,000 in OSLAD funds received from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The District measures success through data collection and personal interaction. This all begins with our talented staff and dedicated Commissioners.

SIBLING DISCOUNT *FOR SELECT PROGRAMS The Oregon Park District offers a sibling discount of 10% off the regular fee for each additional child enrolled in a program where one child has already enrolled at full price in the same session.

Registration for all siblings must take place at Nash or by phone at the same time in order to receive the discount. All family members must be in the same account to qualify.

OPD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Oregon Park District provides financial assistance in several forms to help families or individuals that are in financial difficulty with program fees, preschool tuition, Extended Time program and Camp Oh-Pea-Dee. Funds are provided through employee-driven fundraising and generous donations through the A. Charles and Lillemor Lawrence Foundation.

REGISTRATION BEGINS DECEMBER 4TH CLASS CHANGES

Annual pass holders will be able to register on Wednesday, December 4th. Resident annual pass holders will begin registration at 7:00 am and nonresident annual pass holders will follow at 9:00 am.

Registration on December 4th can only be submitted by members of your immediate family.

NON-ANNUAL PASS HOLDERS Registration for non-annual pass holders will begin on Thursday, December 5. Residents will begin at 7:00 am, followed by non-residents at 9:00 am.

RESIDENCY

FEES Fees must be paid at the time of registration by cash, check, or credit card. The first fee listed is the rate for Oregon Park District residents. The second fee is for nonresidents. No registrations or rentals will be accepted without the proper payment.

WAIVER POLICY The Oregon Park District requires all class participants and pass holders to sign a waiver release form.

Waivers will be signed and kept on file at Nash Recreation Center. Your registration is not considered complete until a signed waiver is on file.

PROGRAM REFUND POLICY * Full refund will be issued if the Park District reschedules/cancels a class. * To withdraw from a program, a refund application must be completed by visiting our website and submitting a request. * An administrative fee of $5.00 shall be deducted from the amount of a refund to offset the cost of processing the refund. A full refund, less the fee, will be granted if the application for refund is filed with the office prior to the registration deadline. * Refunds will not be granted after the registration deadline. * All program refunds are subject to the program coordinator’s approval. * Refunds will not be approved on Park District passes. * Passes/cards are non-transferable.

Registration

ID is required for proof of residency or a non-resident fee will be charged. A resident is an individual living in or owning real estate within the boundaries of the Oregon Park District. All Oregon School District students participating in youth team sports are considered residents.

The Oregon Park District may cancel, postpone, combine classes, or change instructors. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and refunds will be issued.

All participants will be notified of any scheduling changes or cancellations.

Our Online Registration system can help you and your family save time when registering for activities! The Oregon Park District recently transitioned to a new recreation software, Perfect Mind, and is pleased to offer the improved online registration interface. With Perfect Mind, the District is able to offer a user-friendly interface, simple navigation, and customizable features to best serve our community.

Perfect Mind provides the ability for our users to update account information, view attendance history, register for an activity or event, and check on the availability of a shelter or Nash Recreation Center room rental from anywhere with an internet connection.

Visit oregonpark.perfectmind.com to establish an online account. Already have an account with your primary email address? Please make sure to select ‘Forgot your password’ to re-establish your account. Once you’re in, you can update your account and payment information, sign up for programs and activities, and reserve shelters.

While the District strives to make your online experience one of the best, please note there are a few account features that are not available online.

All patrons that create their own account will be flagged as a Non-Resident. If you live within the District boundaries and are a Resident, please call Nash Recreation Center at (815) 732-3101 so our Customer Service team can update your account. MT. MORRIS VILLAGE RESIDENTS

A Nash Recreation Center pass or daily fee allows patrons to use the pool and whirlpool, gym, and Fitness Center.

Mt. Morris Village residents can register for all programs, memberships, facility rentals and daily fees at the Oregon Park District resident rate. Additional non-resident fees are subsidized by the Village of Mt. Morris.

AUTOMATIC MONTHLY PAYMENT

Racquetball court rental is included in the annual pass fee and is $3.00/hour for non-annual pass holders. Wallyball court rental is $5.00/hour.

NASH FITNESS CENTER The Nash Fitness Center is over 6,000 square feet and features a three lane rubberized track that surrounds our CYBEX strength training machines, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment.

Fitness Center staff is available to set up an orientation for any and all users looking to begin a fitness routine.

This is a convenient way to pay for your pass and select programs.

The automatic debit monthly fees are shown below. With your permission, automatic credit card charges will be made each month. The first amount is the initial payment that will be made when registering, followed by the amount of 11 equal payments charged each month.

Your annual pass is paid off in three equal consecutive payments!

The pass fee is paid for the first three months, and is only available on annual passes.

Groups of 15 or more will receive a 10% discount on daily fees if reservations are made at least 10 days in advance. Contact the Oregon Park District for reservation information.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

LOCKERS The Oregon Park District has lockers available for rental to annual pass holders for the term of the pass. The cost is $65 for residents and $80 for non-residents.

The Oregon Park District is an approved SilverSneakers and Renew Active location. If you are unsure if you are a member or do not have a membership ID, the front counter staff at Nash can assist in determining your eligibility.

Anyone 3rd grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person, Junior High aged or older in the facility. The Nash pool features stairs to a 3 foot bay area attached to a 25 meter 6 lane pool. The deepest area is 10 feet. The pool is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the pool. After your workout you can enjoy the 13 person hot tub with both high and low jets.

Six lap lanes will be available for swimmers 7th grade or older. Swimming 32 laps is a one mile workout.

HOT TUB HOURS The hot tub is available for use during Lap Swim, Open Swim, and Multi-Use Swim. The hot tub can also be used during swim lessons, Water Aerobics, and Twinges classes. You must be at least 16 years old to use the hot tub. The hot tub is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the hot tub.

OPEN SWIM All areas of the pool are open for use, including our diving board and basketball hoop. Pool toys are allowed in the pool at the discretion of the aquatic staff.

MULTI-USE SWIM Multi-Use Swim is open to all ages, however, children are to be accompanied by an adult. Patrons may swim laps, play in the bay area, water jog in the deep end, or enjoy time in the hot tub. Swim lessons are scheduled during this time and will have first priority for pool use. Please be aware that areas of the pool may not be available.

Catch the Wave Swim Club structures the program to provide much more than just swimming lessons. Our curriculum, teacher training, evaluation system, and parent communication are all designed to provide a total Aquatic Education. Our primary technique to achieve water safety is to teach all students to comfortably live in the water. When a student truly learns to live in the water, the strokes come easily. We find that a child enjoys the lessons, the more successful the learning process is. Therefore, our first priority is to create a happy atmosphere.

Deep Water Aerobics is a more intense workout than your typical water aerobics class. Working out in the deep end will allow you to get a cardiovascular workout without the impact.

You will also increase your endurance, flexibility and strength.

Let the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water help you improve your joint strength and flexibility along with improving cardiovascular endurance while walking and jogging in the shallow end. Participants do not need to know how to swim.

On April 3rd join us for an egg hunt in the pool. We will offer 3 different release times and will have Open Swim immediately following both hunts.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of their hunt time. This will allow ample time to properly assign wristbands for the appropriate hunt. We will have a limit of 200 kids. For the safety of the swimmers, bags will not be permitted in the water. All participants should bring a basket or bucket.

• 6:10 pm Hunt: Non-swimmers 6 months-12 years old are invited to participate in the 6:10pm hunt. Participants can wear a lifejacket if they wish but must have a parent or guardian (over 13 years old) in the water within arm’s reach of them.

• 6:20 pm Hunt: Independent swimmers ages 5-9 years old are invited to participate in the 6:20 pm hunt. Participants must be able to swim independently without a lifejacket or a parent. Eggs will be placed in both the shallow and the deep end.

LITTLE BASEBALL STARS

T-Ball introduces the fundamentals of baseball. All games will be played at Etnyre field beginning in June. A few practices will be held prior to each team’s first game. Players must turn 5 by 6/1 and not turn 7 before 6/1 to be eligible for T-Ball.

Your child will learn the very basics of baseball in this introductory program, offered by OHS Coach Nate Girton and his baseball players. A parent/adult will be required to attend each evening and may be asked to assist their child throughout the program. Each week, children will learn a new skill and develop previously learned skills. Catching, running, batting, and safety will be taught. Only the first 14 participants will be accepted for each time slot. Each child will receive a t-shirt. Pickleball is often described as a mixture of ping-pong, tennis, and badminton, all played on a mini tennis court with an oversized paddle and a ball similar to a wiffle ball. This game is fast, fun, addictive, and can be played by people of all ages and athletic abilities! Drop in at your own leisure and enjoy this wonderful sport. Women’s Basketball League is back at the Oregon Park District! Games are played 3-on-3 on a half court at either Nash or the Blackhawk Center. Teams will compete in a regular season followed by a tournament to conclude the season.

Fun opportunity for all skill levels to compete in a competitive atmosphere. Number of teams is limited, so register early! The league will be self-officiated, and all players must be 18+ years old and graduated from high school.

CO-ED VOLLEYBALL Co-Ed Volleyball is back at Nash! Games will be played on Thursday Nights. This is a fun and semi-competitive league and will consist of a regular season and an end of the year tournament. Teams may have a maximum of 6 players on the court at one time with no more than 3 males at once.

Mandatory captain’s meeting will be held on 2/6 at 5:30 pm at Nash Recreation Center. A maximum of 8 teams will be allowed, register early! Ages 18 and older and high school graduate.

PICKLEBALL INDOOR TOURNAMENT Come and play in our Pickleball Tournament! This tournament will be a round robin style. Teams will be made up of male, female, or co-ed, and you will have a new partner each round.

Players need not sign up as a team, and this round robin style is designed to even the playing field for all! Nash does have a limited number of paddles that are available to play with.

SAND VOLLEYBALL This Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League will be played at our brand new sand volleyball courts at Park West. There will be a regular season and followed by an end-of-year tournament. We offer childcare four days a week, Labor Day to Memorial Day, to allow our patrons an opportunity to enjoy our facility while having the peace of mind that their child is in a safe environment with experienced staff.

Parents must remain in the building at all times while using the childcare program. This service is free for annual pass-holders and non-annual pass-holders only pay $5 for the first child and $1 for each additional child (maximum of $7/family). Ages 3 months-9 years.

Our summer camp focuses on emphasizing fun, peer interaction, planned activities, and personal growth. Participants will have field trips each Wednesday, swimming each Tuesday and Thursday, have a library program throughout the camp season and visit the splash pad each Friday. On top of this, we will be playing at our local parks, engaging in many sports and outdoor games, themed crafts and so much more! Don’t let your child miss out on this amazing, lasting experience! A light snack is served in the morning before 8:30 am and again around 3:30 pm.

INCLUSION PROGRAM

T

he Oregon Park District is proud of our Inclusion Program that officially kicked off in February 2018. Inclusion within the Oregon Park District means individuals with special needs are blended into the same recreation programs and activities as their peers. The Oregon Park District will work with you to provide reasonable accommodations to enable the participant’s successful involvement in a program.

Using our past experiences, we have taken the time to create internal procedures to include a chain of command and training by Ogle County Educational Cooperative for our staff. This allows staff to be better equipped to work alongside a wide array of individuals with special needs allowing a better experience in our programs.

In 2017, the Oregon Park District took a more conscious approach to accommodate these needs in two of our programs.

The swimming lesson program implemented the Angelfish program through the Starfish Aquatics Institute. Instructors completed and were certified through additional courses. The aquatics department successfully accommodated five swimmers into group lessons this past year and had several returning for multiple sessions. In the summer, Camp Oh-Pea-Dee served a handful of new campers with the accommodation of a companion.

In 2017, Katie Shea, a camp parent, had a child in Camp Oh-Pea-Dee with special needs. Below she shares some thoughts on her experiences.

“My son loved Camp Oh-Pea-Dee. Having a place to play and interact with peers made a big difference in his summer. Our whole family benefitted from the experience. I don’t know what we would have done without it. I know that it is not always easy to be inclusive, but I believe that all children benefit from being exposed to others with differing abilities. We were so pleased to hear reports from his companion that other children asked about

him and missed him when he wasn’t there. You can imagine how great this made us feel. Thank you so much for your willingness to work with us! Until I became a parent of a child with special needs, I never considered the challenges of finding childcare and social activities.

It is hard. There really isn’t an understanding of the widespread benefits of inclusion for all kids. It’s not just about childcare. It’s about friends and interacting with the community. I know these are not easy issues and my beliefs about inclusion have certainly not always been as strong as they are now. I just want to assure you again this is valuable work that you are doing making inclusion a priority. Perhaps your program could serve as a model for others someday.

There is such a great need.”

The Oregon Park District provides year-round programs for patrons with and without disabilities that focus on skill development, independence, socialization, sense of enjoyment and self-awareness. Inclusion services are offered to create an opportunity for people with special needs to participate in the least restrictive environment and be included in all Park District programs. Inclusion allows the participant to participate in any Park District program with the support of an inclusion companion or other accommodations.

Through a comprehensive approach, the Oregon Park District is confident that we can better serve individuals with special needs in any of our Park District programs. At the time of registration, the participant or guardian simply checks the box indicating a need for a special accommodation.

An employee will then contact the participant or guardian to discuss further details to provide the best choice to allow the individual to be successful.

Grow local and eat fresh! Twelve Community Garden plots are available to rent each spring. The raised beds are 4’x8’ and will be available on a first-come first-served basis. There is also a bed available designed for physically challenged or handicapped individuals. The plots are conveniently located at Veterans Park on South 10th Street in Oregon. The plots offer both residents and non-residents the opportunity to produce fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, and more.

Exercise your dog inside the warm gym at Nash to walk the perimeter of the room and/or practice your training in the middle of the gym. Our trainer, Bree Pazera, will be present to advise as needed. All dogs enrolled must have taken at least one other park district dog training class. Dog must be at least 8 months old to attend.

Dogs have a strong instinctual need to socialize with and explore the world. Pack walks satisfy this need. Dogs can safely socialize without physically interacting. Even though the dogs are not physically touching each other, they can smell and see the other dogs, which is still considered socialization. Walking your dog is so important for training, and it’s something most owners do not do enough.

‘WIGGLY FIELD’ DOG PARK Officially opened in July 2012, Wiggly Field Dog Park is the first off-leash dog park operated by the Oregon Park District. The dog park is a 1 acre fenced off-leash area with two separate entrances and exits for safety. The first area is an open running area and the second is an agility training area. The park offers water fountains for people and dogs. Wiggly Field off-leash dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. Agility equipment will be removed during the winter months and brought back in the spring. We ask all owners to have fun, but be responsible. All users and dogs must have a permit. Please stop by Nash Recreation Center to get a permit and receive the rules and regulations.

As an affiliate group, the Oregon Park District relies heavily on the Village of Progress for services offered to meet the needs of the developmentally disabled. PRIVATE RENTALS & AFTER HOURS Celebrate your event with the Nash Recreation Center pool or facility all to yourself! Parties occur after the facility has been closed to the general public and pass holders. This is a perfect location for youth group, sports teams or school after hours event. ELITE PACERS CLUB

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

If you log 1,000 miles in our Fitness Center by the end of October, you will receive an Elite Pacers Club t-shirt.

After your workout, simply fill out one of our Pacers Club cards and drop it in the box. We will then enter your workout information into our computer. All miles and/or time will be converted into bike miles. The totals will be posted every month. If you are a new member, please ask the fitness supervisor on duty and they will explain how to record your miles.

The Oregon Park District believes that every child should have an opportunity to participate in recreational programs regardless of financial hardship.

The Oregon Park District offers scholarships to all OCUSD students for reduced program rates according to financial need. Application forms are available at Nash Recreation Center or online at www.oregonpark. org. Applicants for scholarships are not guaranteed program registration or choice of program location.

Scholarship fund availability cannot be guaranteed.

BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR

MEMORIAL TREE

The Park District offers a free blood pressure and heart rate monitor in our Fitness Center. It is a fully automatic self-attended monitor. Be heart-healthy and happy! Know your blood pressure!

Donate a tree in memory of a loved one. You can choose the type of tree and park location. Contact the Park District for more information about this program.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

NIGHT FISHING PERMITS

The Oregon Park District is happy to comply with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you need special accommodations (such as an interpreter or physical assistance), please call the Oregon Park District (TDD or Voice) two weeks in advance so that we may make the necessary arrangements for you.

You can now fish at night in Oregon Park District parks by purchasing a required Night Fishing Permit. Permits are available at Nash for $20.00 and are valid through the end of the calendar year.

Lost and found articles are kept a maximum of 30 days and then donated to charitable organizations.

If you think you or a family member may have lost something in one of our parks or facilities, please call or visit Nash Recreation Center.

PHOTO POLICY The Oregon Park District and/or professional photographers under contract may videotape or take photographs of participants in Park District activities, classes, programs, or parks. These photographs and videotapes are used for future recreation guides, brochures, Facebook and other marketing materials.

SOCIAL MEDIA

MILITARY POLICY Military home on active duty, their resident family members during military tours and wounded warriors will have access to Nash Recreation Center at no charge. Proof of miltary status must be provided.
