Dear Oregon Park District Residents,

Over the past year, the District has implemented several communication tools to reflect program changes to meet the needs of our users. Our new mobile website, released in February, provides our users access to the information they need the most while on the go, 24 hours a day. The District will also release our new registration software, Perfect Mind, in late July. The new program will be a hosted solution, allowing the District and its participants access to the software from anywhere with internet access. It will provide a flexible solution with simple navigation for users that will allow them to view, track and register for District activities and programs, as well as rent shelters and facilities.

An additional change includes the District releasing an activity guide three times per year instead of two. The guide will now be split into three seasons: Fall, Winter, and Summer. We are hopeful this will allow improved programming and coincide with the school calendar.

Looking toward fall, trends indicate that many will continue to experience economic need. Over the past ten years, the Park District’s fee assistance program has been available to help families enjoy recreation programs that they otherwise could not afford. Staff works diligently each year to raise funds for the fee assistance program through fundraisers and community partners. If you are interested in donating or know of someone who could benefit from this program, please call 732-3101.

And finally, Park West will soon be under construction. The District received a $400,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in January 2019. As a result, the District will be able to pursue phase II development at Park West.

Phase I was completed in 2011. Construction will include many exciting updates to the existing infrastructure. The community can look forward to the addition of a fully accessible playground, a larger restroom & shelter building, improved accessibility at the amphitheater, batting cage, new sand volleyball courts, baggo courts, and an outdoor classroom. The final addition to the improvements will be a Yalp Toro court. The Toro court is a multipurpose play court for kids and adults utilizing advanced technology for interactive games. The Toro Court will be the first to be installed in the United States. Project updates will be available on the Oregon Park District facebook page and oregonpark.org.

SIBLING DISCOUNT *FOR SELECT PROGRAMS The Oregon Park District offers a sibling discount of 10% off the regular fee for each additional child enrolled in a program where one child has already enrolled at full price in the same session. Registration for all siblings must take place at Nash or by phone at the same time in order to receive the discount. All family members must be in the same account to qualify.

OPD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Oregon Park District provides financial assistance in several forms to help families or individuals that are in financial difficulty with program fees, preschool tuition, Extended Time program and Camp Oh-Pea-Dee. Funds are provided through employee-driven fundraising and generous donations through the A. Charles and Lillemor Lawrence Foundation.

REGISTRATION BEGINS JULY 31ST CLASS CHANGES

Annual pass holders will be able to register on Tuesday, July 30. Resident annual pass holders will begin registration at 7:00 am and non-resident annual pass holders will follow at 9:00 am. Registration on July 30 can only be submitted by members of your immediate family.

NON-ANNUAL PASS HOLDERS Registration for non-annual pass holders will begin on Wednesday, July 31. Residents will begin at 7:00 am, followed by non-residents at 9:00 am.

RESIDENCY

FEES Fees must be paid at the time of registration by cash, check, or credit card. The first fee listed is the rate for Oregon Park District residents. The second fee is for nonresidents. No registrations or rentals will be accepted without the proper payment.

WAIVER POLICY The Oregon Park District requires all class participants and pass holders to sign a waiver release form.

Waivers will be signed and kept on file at Nash Recreation Center. Your registration is not considered complete until a signed waiver is on file.

PROGRAM REFUND POLICY * Full refund will be issued if the Park District reschedules/cancels a class. * To withdraw from a program, a refund application must be completed by visiting our website and submitting a request. * An administrative fee of $5.00 shall be deducted from the amount of a refund to offset the cost of processing the refund. A full refund, less the fee, will be granted if the application for refund is filed with the office at least ten days prior to the scheduled start of the program/activity. * Refunds will not be granted after the registration deadline. * All program refunds are subject to the program coordinator’s approval. * Refunds will not be approved on Park District passes. * Passes/cards are non-transferable.

Registration

ID is required for proof of residency or a non-resident fee will be charged. A resident is an individual living in or owning real estate within the boundaries of the Oregon Park District. All Oregon School District students participating in youth team sports are considered residents.

The Oregon Park District may cancel, postpone, combine classes, or change instructors. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and refunds will be issued.

All participants will be notified of any scheduling changes or cancellations.

MT. MORRIS VILLAGE RESIDENTS

A Nash Recreation Center pass or daily fee allows patrons to use the pool and whirlpool, gym, and Fitness Center.

Mt. Morris Village residents can register for all programs, memberships, facility rentals and daily fees at the Oregon Park District resident rate. Additional non-resident fees are subsidized by the Village of Mt. Morris.

AUTOMATIC MONTHLY PAYMENT

Racquetball court rental is included in the annual pass fee and is $3.00/hour for non-annual pass holders. Wallyball court rental is $5.00/hour.

NASH FITNESS CENTER The Nash Fitness Center is over 6,000 square feet and features a three lane rubberized track that surrounds our CYBEX strength training machines, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment.

Fitness Center staff is available to set up an orientation for any and all users looking to begin a fitness routine.

GROUP RESERVATIONS

3 PAY PAYMENT PLAN Your annual pass is paid off in three equal consecutive payments!

The pass fee is paid for the first three months, and is only available on annual passes.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Groups of 15 or more will receive a 10% discount on daily fees if reservations are made at least 10 days in advance. Contact the Oregon Park District for reservation information.

The Oregon Park District has lockers available for rental to annual pass holders for the term of the pass. The cost is $65 for residents and $80 for non-residents.

Children under the age of 5 are welcome to use the gym and pool area free of charge. Anyone 3rd grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person, Junior High aged or older in the facility. Participants must be 7th grade or older to use the Nash Fitness Center and 9th grade or older to use the free weights.

LOCKERS

*Family: Persons must reside in the same household. Each household is limited to two adults, legally married (including civil union and common law marriage), with the exception of full-time students between the ages of 18 and 24. An unlimited number of persons 17 and under can be included under a family membership.

This is a convenient way to pay for your pass and select programs.

The automatic debit monthly fees are shown above. With your permission, automatic credit card charges will be made each month. The first amount is the initial payment that will be made when registering, followed by the amount of 11 equal payments charged each month.

HOT TUB HOURS The hot tub is available for use during Lap Swim, Open Swim, and Multi-Use Swim. The hot tub can also be used during swim lessons, Water Aerobics, and Twinges classes. You must be at least 16 years old to use the hot tub. The hot tub is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the hot tub.

OPEN SWIM All areas of the pool are open for use, including our diving board and basketball hoop. Pool toys are allowed in the pool at the discretion of the aquatic staff.

LAP SWIM Six lap lanes will be available for swimmers 7th grade or older. Swimming 32 laps is a one mile workout.

The Nash pool features stairs to a 3 foot bay area attached to a 25 meter 6 lane pool. The deepest area is 10 feet. The pool is equipped with a handicap chair lift to assist patrons in and out of the pool. After your workout you can enjoy the 13 person hot tub with both high and low jets.

STARBABIES AGES 6 MO-3 YRS

LEVEL 4

The focus of Starbabies is to help very young children become comfortable in the water while also teaching the parent or caregiver the importance of water safety. This class does not teach the child how to become an accomplished swimmer or to survive in the water. One parent or caregiver must be in the water with each child.

The focus of Level 4 will be to perfect the freestyle and backstroke. Instructors will use drills to improve students’ stroke mechanics. Water safety skills will continue to be reinforced in this level.

LEVEL 1 The focus of Level 1 will be on trust, submersion, body position, and air recovery. This class will be taught in the bay area of the pool. Students will learn the fundamentals needed to be comfortable in the water.

LEVEL 5 The focus of Level 5 will be to learn the butterfly and breaststroke. Students will learn the proper timing for both.

The focus of Level 6 will be on swimming endurance. Students will work on increasing the distance they can swim. They will also learn open turns and flip turns.

The focus of Level 2 will be on forward movement and direction change. Students will continue to build their independence in the water.

LEVEL 3 The focus of Level 3 will be on body rotation and integrated movement. Students will begin swimming full lengths of the pool. Diving and treading water will also be introduced.

Deep Water Aerobics is a more intense workout than your typical water aerobics class. Working out in the deep end will allow you to get a cardiovascular workout without the impact.

You will also increase your endurance, flexibility and strength.

Participants do not need to know how to swim. An aqua jogger belt will be provided.

No Class 8/12, 8/17, 8/19, 8/24, 8/31, 9/2, 10/5, 11/30, and 12/28

Let the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water help you improve your joint strength and flexibility along with improving cardiovascular endurance while walking and jogging in the shallow end. Participants do not need to know how to swim.

WATER AEROBICS-AGES 18+

Classes

Exercise your entire body without putting stress on your back and joints. This class will work on toning, cardiovascular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Private lessons are 30 minutes of one-onone instruction. Students may choose to focus on specific skills or work on all skills required to pass a swimming level.

It is never too late to learn to swim! Our instructor will work with you one-on-one for 30 minutes to help you enjoy the water and learn desired skills. Both private youth and adult swim lessons are scheduled by the Aquatics Coordinator, aquatics@oregonpark.org or (815) 732-3101. The number of lessons is up to you.

April 3rd

On April 3rd join us for an egg hunt in the pool. We will offer 3 different release times and will have Open Swim immediately following both hunts. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of their hunt time. This will allow ample time to properly assign wristbands for the appropriate hunt. We will have a limit of 200 kids. For the safety of the swimmers, bags will not be permitted in the water. All participants should bring a basket or bucket.

• 6:10 pm Hunt: Non-swimmers 6 months-12 years old are invited to participate in the 6:10pm hunt.

Participants can wear a lifejacket if they wish but must have a parent or guardian (over 13 years old) in the water within arm’s reach of them.

• 6:20 pm Hunt: Independent swimmers ages 5-9 years old are invited to participate in the 6:20 pm hunt.

BOUNCE Get ready to bounce with Personal Trainer, Kim Henry. In this hands-on class learn the basics on the Bosu Ball. The Bosu Ball was invented in 1999 by David Weck. It is an inflated rubber hemisphere attached to a rigid platform.

AOP 5K RUNNING GROUP Running can be a very lonely activity, but it doesn’t have to be. Studies show having a group promotes accountability and raises the success rate for an individual to stick with a training program. This 6-week running group will keep you engaged in your training for the annual AOP 5K. Those registered are expected to participate twice during the week as well as every Saturday.

Can’t make it to the group? That’s okay, but we will be asking you how your run went on your own schedule. Everyone is encouraged to choose between a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday schedule or a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday schedule. We will meet at the upper parking lot at Park West. Everyone is welcome to choose their own training program and pace themselves as they feel comfortable. Come join us! INCLUSION PROGRAM

T

he Oregon Park District is proud of our Inclusion Program that officially kicked off in February 2018. Inclusion within the Oregon Park District means individuals with special needs are blended into the same recreation programs and activities as their peers. The Oregon Park District will work with you to provide reasonable accommodations to enable the participant’s successful involvement in a program.

Using our past experiences, we have taken the time to create internal procedures to include a chain of command and training by Ogle County Educational Cooperative for our staff. This allows staff to be better equipped to work alongside a wide array of individuals with special needs allowing a better experience in our programs.

In 2017, the Oregon Park District took a more conscious approach to accommodate these needs in two of our programs.

The swimming lesson program implemented the Angelfish program through the Starfish Aquatics Institute. Instructors completed and were certified through additional courses. The aquatics department successfully accommodated five swimmers into group lessons this past year and had several returning for multiple sessions. In the summer, Camp Oh-Pea-Dee served a handful of new campers with the accommodation of a companion.

In 2017, Katie Shea, a camp parent, had a child in Camp Oh-Pea-Dee with special needs. Below she shares some thoughts on her experiences.

“My son loved Camp Oh-Pea-Dee. Having a place to play and interact with peers made a big difference in his summer. Our whole family benefitted from the experience. I don’t know what we would have done without it. I know that it is not always easy to be inclusive, but I believe that all children benefit from being exposed to others with differing abilities. We were so pleased to hear reports from his companion that other children asked about

him and missed him when he wasn’t there. You can imagine how great this made us feel. Thank you so much for your willingness to work with us! Until I became a parent of a child with special needs, I never considered the challenges of finding childcare and social activities.

It is hard. There really isn’t an understanding of the widespread benefits of inclusion for all kids. It’s not just about childcare. It’s about friends and interacting with the community. I know these are not easy issues and my beliefs about inclusion have certainly not always been as strong as they are now. I just want to assure you again this is valuable work that you are doing making inclusion a priority. Perhaps your program could serve as a model for others someday.

There is such a great need.”

The Oregon Park District provides year-round programs for patrons with and without disabilities that focus on skill development, independence, socialization, sense of enjoyment and self-awareness. PACK WALKS Dogs have a strong instinctual need to socialize with and explore the world. Pack walks satisfy this need. Dogs can safely socialize without physically interacting. Even though the dogs are not physically touching each other, they can smell and see the other dogs, which is still considered socialization. Walking your dog is so important for training, and it’s something most owners do not do enough. Join us for pack walks at the various locations to keep your dog happy, healthy and entertained.

Each walk will be 1-2 miles on casual paths. Bring a 6-foot leash (no retractable leashes), a proper collar(s), water and treats.

‘WIGGLY FIELD’ DOG PARK Officially opened in July 2012, Wiggly Field Dog Park is the first off-leash dog park operated by the Oregon Park District. The dog park is a 1 acre fenced off-leash area with two separate entrances and exits for safety. The first area is an open running area and the second is an agility training area. The park offers water fountains for people and dogs. Wiggly Field off-leash dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. Agility equipment will be removed during the winter months and brought back in the spring. We ask all owners to have fun, but be responsible. All users and dogs must have a permit. Please stop by Nash Recreation Center to get a permit and receive the rules and regulations.

If you log 1,000 miles in our Fitness Center by the end of October, you will receive an Elite Pacers Club t-shirt.

After your workout, simply fill out one of our Pacers Club cards and drop it in the box. We will then enter your workout information into our computer. All miles and/or time will be converted into bike miles. The totals will be posted every month. If you are a new member, please ask the fitness supervisor on duty and they will explain how to record your miles.

The Oregon Park District believes that every child should have an opportunity to participate in recreational programs regardless of financial hardship.

The Oregon Park District offers scholarships to all OCUSD students for reduced program rates according to financial need. Application forms are available at Nash Recreation Center or online at www.oregonpark. org. Applicants for scholarships are not guaranteed program registration or choice of program location.

Scholarship fund availability cannot be guaranteed.

BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR

MEMORIAL TREE Donate a tree in memory of a loved one. You can choose the type of tree and park location. Contact the Park District for more information about this program.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

NIGHT FISHING PERMITS

The Oregon Park District is happy to comply with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you need special accommodations (such as an interpreter or physical assistance), please call the Oregon Park District (TDD or Voice) two weeks in advance so that we may make the necessary arrangements for you.

You can now fish at night in Oregon Park District parks by purchasing a required Night Fishing Permit. Permits are available at Nash for $20.00 and are valid through the end of the calendar year.

LOST & FOUND

Find the Oregon Park District on Facebook and like our page. Stay up-to-date with daily posts and reminders.

Share your photos from events, facilities, and parks on social media via #OregonParkDistrict.

Lost and found articles are kept a maximum of 30 days and then donated to charitable organizations.

If you think you or a family member may have lost something in one of our parks or facilities, please call or visit Nash Recreation Center.

PHOTO POLICY The Oregon Park District and/or professional photographers under contract may videotape or take photographs of participants in Park District activities, classes, programs, or parks. These photographs and videotapes are used for future recreation guides, brochures, Facebook and other marketing materials.

SOCIAL MEDIA

MILITARY POLICY Military home on active duty, their resident family members during military tours and wounded warriors will have access to Nash Recreation Center at no charge. Proof of miltary status must be provided.

In addition, Wounded Warriors must provide documentation of their status as a veteran disabled during service. For more information or questions please call Tina at (815) 732-3101 or tina@oregon park.org.

Odds and Ends

The Park District offers a free blood pressure and heart rate monitor in our Fitness Center. It is a fully automatic self-attended monitor. Be heart-healthy and happy! Know your blood pressure!
