After one of the slowest beginnings to the entrance of warmer weather in recent memory there are some sure signs of summer arriving any day now! May is here so get ready for summer activities being in your plans. The Garden Club's last meeting of the 2017-2018 year will be on Friday, May 18 at Houndslake Country Club beginning at 11 o'clock. Our entertainment will be by M'aiken Music. There will be a short business meeting to elect our officers for the next year. Those people will be making plans for the Garden Club's activities for the year 2018-2019. In the meantime watch the Carolina Garden for what is happening with us this summer and watch this space because I'll give you some news about us any time I can. We also hope that you will make plans to be a part of the interesting things we do – we just know you'll love it as much as we do! As an example, last month we went to Woodlanders Nursery for a conducted tour – we climbed over rows and rows of some of the most interesting plants you would ever see, right here in Aiken! March 28, 2018 the Ladies 9 Hole Golfers had a great turnout and fun time at the Member/Guest. This year’s theme was Around the U.S.A. in Nine Holes. Twenty-eight ladies participated and the member/guest team winners were: First prize: Pat Belew/Kathy Socciarelli and Maureen Bergstrom/Jeanne Scarton. 2nd prize: Nancy Thomas/Connie Pisko and Lynn Caravello/Carolyn Beard.
Although April 9, 2018 was a cold and rainy day, there were a few brave members who played in the Interclub at Woodside Plantation. Chris Bell represented the Houndslake L9HG well and was on the winning team! Our Memorial Tournament on April 18th was won by Paula Maxwell, Jenifer Ramseur, and Nancy Thomas. Afterwards, a group met on the tee box of Dogwood #8 to honor members of the L9HG who have “played through.” Betty Estes, Shirley Day, Sue Boyer, Holly Franz, and others were some of the L9HG past members who were in our thoughts as we toasted them in a memorial remembrance.

The Houndslake Water Hounds (adult men and women) will meet (weather permitting) from 9:00 to 10:00 Monday through Saturday. Water Aerobics is a great way to start the day; it will increase your flexibility, body strength, balance and cardio fitness. Join us Friday, June 1st for our first time back in the pool. You will need good water support shoes, a noodle and hand buoys (online). Come join us for aqua fun; no need to pre-register, come any day.
