My Career as a Teacher Essay

As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a future career where I can implement my own beliefs and mold the future into something extremely positive. I believe the most important aspects that I want to bring to my students are threefold: I want to educate, motivate, and inspire. The different methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific investigation which uses the scientific method. The scientific method includes first investigating the problem, coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the experiment, reading the results, and finally completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making which is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is problem solving. When I teach the students to problem solve accurately they be able to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think critically which includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the method of cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing classroom activities into academic and social learning experience. I make my way to class avoiding the students and setup and wait in the class until the bell goes at half past 8. Outside the kids are eagerly waiting to be let inside, like a pack of puppies waiting for you to open the door just so they can jump all over you with their muddy paws. What do they eat, must be something like froot–loops. Which would explain not just the sugar rush but a for a few others something else too. As soon as we are all in class, which doesn't take long, I give announcements and ask the class to take their chairs to assembly. When we arrive I round up my class, and once everyone is seated its time to go home. I wish! Though it is about 20minutes later. At the beginning of every assembly we stand and sing the national anthem. Which doesn't sound like an anthem at all. Instead of sounding like we are proud and free, it's sung in a droning tone. When we sit down I shush all the chatters and the assembly begins. As a teacher it's our duty to listen to what is happening around the school while also keeping a small eye, quite like a hawks, on the class. T he first main idea, that has been argued much more then needed, is that teachers will be trained to not shoot kids that are acting up. The teachers would be attending a gun safety class. Many (as in people against this argument) say that the teachers wouldn't attend this class, but a recent survey, conducted by the NRA, shows us that 40 million teachers would like to be armed and would take the Gun Safety Test. The course, that which is mandatory, would likely e sponsored by the NRA. The course that the teachers would be attending, is a 40–60 hours a week course (in the summer time), and the course doesn't stop until the teacher can pass the exam. The exam is simply being able to hold a gun, reaction time, and being able to know when and when not to shoot. Just recently, 04/10/2017, aschool shooting killed two teachers, and injured two students, both kids being injured severely. If those teachers in San Bernardio where armed, they could have saved their lives and those children's futures. My first experience as a teacher was very exciting and a bit challenging. I spent four weeks in a child protection agency, observing, teaching lessons, and working small group of pupils. This has given me a valuable insight into a many important issues related to teaching. I have learned a lot about myself. My Day I wake up every morning with a shock, my mum knocking at the door and shouting,

"Time for a shower." I'm always tired in the mornings and find getting up for a shower really horrible, though it does a good job of waking me up and after it I'm ready for another day at school. Another couple of friends arrive at this house too and we all get together and walk to school. This walking to school together gives me a good opportunity to make after school arrangements. Once at school (the walk takes about 15 minutes) I go to my tutor base and catch up with my friends who don't walk to school with me. After a short rest I make my way to my first lesson on a Monday usually English.

English requires a lot of work and its quite interesting. All year it's work, work, work, which is hardly surprising seeing that it's GCSE year. I'm going to need to work hard because qualifications are a necessary part of any career and I definitely want a career not just a job.

After the first two lessons I usually eat my lunch. It may seem strange that I eat my lunch at break but it takes so much time queuing at lunchtime just so I can sit down and eat some food that I would rather eat my packed lunch early freeing up time at lunch for other activities. The only downside to this is that you have lots of people surrounding you begging for food. Most people would probably just say "No", but I have real problems with saying "No" and more often than not half my food is devoured by these hungry beasts.

In my school there are many teachers. Each one teaches us different subjects. Although all of them are fairly good, there is one teacher whom I love and admire the most. Her name is Mrs. Grace Gilo. Middle school, that awkward time when you're too young to be high schoolers, yet too old to be elementary schoolers. We all experience it, most don't take much from it, but I was an exception. At Archdale Trinity Middle School there was a teacher by the name of Mr. Gary Hunsucker. I will never forget that name, for he impacted me for life. All of the students wanted Mr. Hunsuker, probably because his class was fairly easy to pass. What the students didn't know was the lessons he taught. Not only lesson plans, but life lessons. I remember seeing Mr. Hunsucker in the halls. I can remember his radiant smile, and his humble complexion. I always wanted the experience of having Mr. Hunsucker for a teacher, so I made sure of it. I applied for Algebra I because I knew Mr. Hunsucker taught that class. Not to my surprize, I got in his class. I can remember how excited I was to see him in class teaching! The first day of August had finally arrived, and the first day ofschool was here. I looked at my schedule that read, "Gary Hunsucker, Algebra I–4th Period". That whole day felt as long as the whole summer did waiting on that clock to read, "1:45". It seemed as if the clock ticked only a fraction of the speed it should. Well, my schedule during the week is usually focused at school or at home. My weeks are never smooth and I usually have a lot of homework because I am taking 18 units. I specifically handle all my day to day things by the first study and do my homework before I go play a video game, sleep, or eat. My days feel very structured and I usually tried to prepare and do all my homework at least 1 week ahead. That way I have a bit more time to study for a test. Those classes are usually the longest time–consuming in my week because they are about 3 hours long. On the Saturday and Sunday, most of my time is to study for the exam or do homework because my class gives me a huge amount of homework. I usually play games for about 30 mins on randomly on my schedule or when I have a random free time. I sleep about 4 to 5 hours a day in the week, but on the weekend, I sleep about 7 to 9 hours.

There are three examples from the text that I plan to use in my future or now to help me combat my time management in the day to day task. First is to know how much time I am using for studying and increasing that time if needed. Second is to use a system to plan and set priorities. Lastly, it for me to stay motivated to follow my plan and avoid procrastination. The three strategies I would use in the textbook would do the most important study first, use a calendar planner and daily to–do list, and do the easier task first. I choose those three strategies for my time management because time is the key to be successful. My Motivation For Being A Teacher Essay

My motivation for being a teacher comes from somewhere deep within my heart and soul. I love children. I love the look that comes across their faces when they finally grasp a concept after they have been trying to truly understand it. I had a lot of teachers that made an impact on me and I want to have the same impact on as many children as possible. My teachers installed a love of learning in me. There is no better profession than teaching for those who want to learn. One is learning just as much from their students, if not more, than what they teach. During my time on the PGDE Course both in University based learning, and more evidently during my Professional Practise placements, I have come to realise the significance of reflection within the teaching profession. Not only does reflecting on best practise benefit the children's learning but also increases the teacher's confidence and ability in making decisions and delivering lessons. 'Reflective teachers need to be able to relate their findings to those of others and to consider results in the context of the current debates about educational issues' (Pollard, 2008). Having a range of theorist's viewpoints, tried and tested ways of teaching, and working with more experienced professionals has furthered my knowledge and understanding. I do not believe teachers are required to know everything there is to know about all subjects but will have more expertise in some subjects than others. The subjects and topics which they have limited experience in will require a professional commitment in order to research. Teaching has always been a part of my life. The idea of learning new things intrigued me from a young age. I watched my older brother go to school for years before I finally started my first day of kindergarten. I recall begging my mom to buy me a book–bag and give me homework to do like my brother received. I was fascinated with school and once I started kindergarten, I loved it. My kindergarten teacher made the classroom feel like home and encouraged us to always be our best. This is also where the idea of becoming a teacher started brewing in my brain. There was one afternoon, where I told my kindergarten teacher that I loved kindergarten so much, I wanted to become a kindergarten teacher like her. Although she found it sweet, she actually responded by telling me I should look into other careers instead of teaching. The issue of teacher shortage today is continuing to grow. The effects of the achievement gap are reaching the teachers, not just the students: "...good administrators and teachers, who are doing their best under difficult circumstances, will be driven out of the profession...," (Boyd–Zaharias 41). The achievement gap is part of the reason teachers feel they are underpaid, which happens to be one of the leading cause in teacher shortage considering, "Teachers were paid two percent less [than comparable workers] in 1994, but by 2015 the wage penalty rose to 17 percent," (Long). Being a teacher requires passion in order to stay in the field, especially if the money in teaching is decreasing. Money is an important aspect for people when it comes to their careers, therefore, fewer people want to become teachers. This lack of teachers and the lack of college students studying to become a teacher leads to unqualified teachers and larger classroom sizes (Ostroff). Both of these causes are eventually affecting students' learning environments. When compared worldwide, American teachers work the most hours, yet are paid in the lowest brackets when related to the top 32 nations (Teachers Pay). In addition to the hourly rate, teachers often are given economic incentives that aren't available to other jobs (Teachers). In contrast there are many reasons why teachers truly are underpaid. They do not take into consideration the hours that teachers put in at home. In my head, there were questions such as What am I going to do? What should I tell to the kids? Is this how it is supposed to be done? This is something that happens to me: in my life as a student I am very quiet, observer, and introverted; in the other side, as a teacher I like to sing songs to my students (kindergartens), dance with them and, if possible, use some fun activities. Teachers' beliefs influenced different tasks such as: selecting and presenting learning activities, preparing students for new language and checking their understanding, monitoring students' learning, giving feedback, among others (Richards & Lockhart, 1994). I agree completely with this perception, because it is something that I have noticed since this course started: in the videos of my classmates, in the classes of my teachers, and in my own classes. Related to this, another topic seen during this semester was about the lesson plans as means of reflection. It was something very useful that never crossed my mind: writing some notes or observations about the class after it ended can be very helpful to discover things that otherwise may go unnoticed and at the end, it can help us to avoid doing the same mistakes over and over. I found this tool useful and important to my practice because it helped me to realize some situations that can present in a class and also it encouraged me to reflect on how can I solve those issues and avoid them to occur
