The Board Corner

Dear Members,

The club is enjoying a terrific season with remarkable weather and well-attended events. The recent Town Hall meeting to discuss the results of the strategic planning survey generated a lot of positive discussion about the club's future. The strategic plan will serve as the framework for continuing our Club’s momentum in building a stronger, sustainable future. It will identify key initiatives we must accomplish to meet our Mission for a family focused membership and to continue to reflect our stated Vision and Values.

We are working with the McMahon Group in developing and refining the Strategic plan. We hope to have an initial draft completed in the next several weeks. This will include developing specific Action Plans to address the key initiatives to deliver a compelling membership experience, provide strategic governance and empowered management, as well as financial stewardship. The Board of Governors will communicate the highlights of our planning process to the membership and will report on our progress toward the goals. We expect the positive momentum to continue throughout the second half of the year.

As we approach our 100-year anniversary, we are proud to reflect on our strong tradition of family and values. For over 97 years OLCC has been a place where families create memories and form lifelong friendships. Our mission and vision statements ensure that we continue to focus on what is most important to our members. Our Strategic Planning Survey confirmed that our mission and vision statements are still relevant and important to our membership. OLCC is committed to upholding its set of core values: Family Focused - Fiscal Responsibility, Excellence – Integrity – Inclusivity –Shared Passion. This embodies our traditions of respect, integrity, sportsmanship, and excellence. We are proud that our members exemplify these core values at the Club and in the community. These values make it easier for us to connect with each other and build relationships. Our traditions provide a sense of continuity, and it helps to keep OLCC grounded in its history.

With thoughtful planning and a commitment to tradition and values, we are confident we will remain a premier family-focused club in the Midwest for many years to come. As we move forward, we welcome feedback from our members to ensure we stay true to our mission and vision.

We look forward to creating many more memories together!

Message From The General Manager

The Memories We Create at Orchard Lake

I can't believe it's August already - time truly does fly when we're having such a wonderful time. The summer has been overflowing with activities and there's still so much more in store for us.

Looking back, I can't help but recall the myriad of exciting events we've enjoyed. The Tin Lizzie Member Tournament, multiple thrilling regattas, and our diverse junior sports programs were merely the beginning. Our men and women's golf league, the memorable Smoke on the Water Fireworks Night, and the spirited Pink Shirt Invitational were just a few more highlights. The Players and Blue Coat Tournaments added their own charm to this incredible season.

Our tennis, pickleball, and paddle courts have been bustling with countless matches, complemented by the delightful Apple Island Swim and Mini Meet. Our Club has also been the backdrop for numerous member weddings, showers, family functions, and milestone celebrations. Not to forget our very first town hall of the season, during which we began drafting our strategic plan for the future.

As we transition into August, we have a vibrant line-up of activities. We're eagerly anticipating all the Club Championships, the Member Caddie Tournament, and the End of Summer Party. We're also hosting two family campouts – one in August and another in September. Add to this the quintessential Michigan summer days spent on the golf course, at the pool, on the beach, dining, or just enjoying a BBQ at the picnic grove - there's no shortage of ways to savor the rest of the season with our loved ones and our Club community.

Each memory created here at Orchard Lake Country Club is a testament to the relentless efforts of our dedicated staff, who consistently strive to deliver the best membership experience in the Midwest. I encourage you to extend your appreciation to our team members when you see them around - a simple "Thank You" goes a long way!

Looking forward to seeing you around the Club soon,

Peter Swick General Manager
