WHAT IS PASSIVATION?
Passivation is a chemical process used to restore and enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless steel after it has been welded or fabricated.
During welding, the protective chromium oxide layer on stainless steel can become damaged or contaminated, making it more vulnerable to rust and corrosion.
Passivation works by removing surface contaminants—such as free iron and weld burn marks—and re-forming a clean, passive oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. The result is a smooth, clean, and corrosionresistant finish that improves both the performance and appearance of stainless steel components.
