A warm welcome to Albany United Players, Coaches, Management & Supporters.
We are now closing in on the halfway point of the season for the NRFL teams, a er a shaky start to the season the squad are looking good a er the reset, a few new faces have come in & se led well. Steve & his coaching team con nue to put the work in to make the squad successful, they have created a great atmosphere which is spreading throughout the club. I have men oned on a few occasions this season that all the teams in the club are really suppor ng the club by a ending func ons using the clubrooms & suppor ng each other, for this to happen all the coaches, managers, parents & players hard work is paying off we really appreciate all of the hours that you all put in. To keep you all in the loop the commi ee have put through a few applica ons to the grant funding companies to upgrade the windows & doors this is a very large cost that hopefully we will get the funding for, we have also sent in applica ons to replace the carpets & curtains, if we can get this across the line the club will look at lot more welcoming.
Last Saturday the club held a quiz night to raise funds so we can celebrate our 50th Anniversary, throughout the season we will be holding more fund-raising func ons keep your eye out through our media outlets & posters in the clubrooms. The Jubilee commi ee are working hard to make this a success a big thanks to all involved.
Thanks to all our sponsors who con nue to support the club, Stellar Machinery, Ten Forward Coffee and Grill, Li le India, Connolly Drainage, D & T Automo ve, The ProAgent team, Dynasty and Mike Hadne .

I men oned the importance of home games in my last programme ar cle and, as our last one in the next month, this theme is even more important this me around. We were successful last me out because our mentality was strong, helped by the familiarity playing at Parrs gives us and the support of our people at the game. We will need to work at least as hard to repeat that result today. Good teams are not successful because of a game or two. It takes a sustained run of performances before they can be acknowledged as a successful group. This consistency is what we are now striving for.
A big part of this is managing and se ng expecta ons around the squad. These expecta ons range from training a endance to me keeping and set the standards by which successful teams measure themselves. If we are to achieve and sustain the consistency referred to earlier, then everybody in the group must be set high standards for themselves and help hold others to account for maintaining theirs. If we do this, then the building blocks are in place for the future.
Some things, on the other hand, are beyond our control. Coming of the bye is one. This is a double-edged sword in that the rest can be beneficial, but the lack of a game mi gates against match sharpness. We decided to give the players the weekend off this me around and will see if that approach works or not this a ernoon.
Players are beginning to return from medium- and long-term injury issues and this is a bonus for us. Add to this the some mes-unexpected performances of squad members who are performing at a higher standard than we expected, and places in the team will soon be competed for in all posi ons. I am a great believer in playing to the strengths of the squad rather than trying to adapt players to a preconceived pa ern. This will in theory bring out the best of the talent we have available over the remainder of the season.
As always, a big thank you to all who make the day possible and to our sponsors. Enjoy the game.

Welcome to the Albany whānau to Parrs for today's encounters. It's sure to be two cracking games.
With last week being, yet, another Saturday without U23s/development team footy, this topsy turvy season stu ers on. And, to be honest, a er a shocking performance two weeks ago, it may have served us well on this occasion. At the risk of being the scratched record, as long as we learn, it's not the end of the world, results are not the defining factor in this endeavour - we will s ll, of course, demand a much improved display today. And, I'm confident we'll get it. Last run out against Albany was a tough one, we were outplayed for much of the game but we defended well and created a few chances so if we replicate that, we'll do ok. The most important thing, for me, is that we never give up figh ng for the lads beside us and for the colours we wear. If we match the desire and hunger of our opponents, we can beat anyone in this league - we are already matched in quality, I believe in these players . . . we win individual ba les, we cover and support our teammates, and everything else will fall into place.
Enjoy the game and I'll see you on the deck or in the bar a ermatch! 'mon the green!

Cup commitments open way for new leader in Lo o NRFL Northern Conference
By Jack Sharp
With the compe on’s top two teams ed up in Chatham Cup fixtures, third-placed Beachlands Maraetai are well-posi oned to take leadership of the Lo o NRFL Men’s Northern Conference.
They play Central United, whose form has dipped, and by Saturday night, they may well have climbed past Bucklands Beach and Franklin United on the league ladder
Game of the week
Albany United must start winning soon if they’re going to scramble away from the Conference trapdoor or they’ll land in next season’s NRF League One.
But winless Albany are making it hard for themselves.
Last weekend, they travelled to Whangarei and ground out a scoreless draw with struggling Northland.
However, in stoppage me, they were reduced to nine men with a straight red card to Nicolas Aravena, and a double yellow to captain Andrew O’Toole.
They are two of Albany’s more experienced players and they’ve copped one-match bans, sidelining them for Saturday’s trip to Ora a United.
The Tia won their last game 1-0, giving Bucklands Beach their first loss of the season, and they had a bye last weekend.
On form, they should overcome Albany.
Albany need to recreate the form they produced in April when they beat Ora a 3-1 in a match later voided when Northern Region Football decided to redraw and restart the compe on.
Player to watch
He’s only played two games so far this season but veteran defender Cole Tinkler (37) has the experience to help Northland steer clear of relega on.
Tinkler is a former New Zealand age group interna onal (U-17, U-20 and U-23) and was called into the All Whites squad in 2006 but didn’t win a cap.
Last year, he was playing Masters football for Western Springs but now he’s in the Northland squad, and he played 65 minutes in their 0-0 draw against Albany United last weekend.
Tinkler was a guest on the award-winning Between Two Beers podcast. Listen to the interview here …
Bold predic on
Central United could be in for a hiding when they head to Te Puru Park on Saturday to face Beachlands Maraetai.
A er a promising start, Central’s form has slipped and they haven’t won since late April.
Since then, their results have included a 6-0 drubbing by Bucklands Beach, a 1-1 draw with winless Albany United and last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Waitemata.
Beachlands Maraetai will fancy taking top spot in the compe on on Saturday, with neither of the leaders playing, and could make a statement with a big win.
Last weekend, they drew 5-5 with high-flying Franklin United.
I’m pping a big win — by a four-goal margin or more — to Beachlands Maraetai.
Last week, I predicted a close match between Franklin and Beachlands Maraetai, pping Franklin to win 1-0. Both sides went goal-crazy in their 5-5 draw.
… and one more thing
Supporters of Northern Conference football will no doubt look for Chatham Cup results on Saturday to see how Bucklands Beach and Franklin United fare.
Both have big challenges, with Bucklands Beach heading to Kiwitea Street and a e with cup holders and OFC champions Auckland City.
Franklin United visit Northern League club Birkenhead United, winners of the Chatham Cup in 2016 and 2018.
It’s an ideal opportunity for the conference teams to punch above their weight and show the gap between the two compe ons.
Franklin and Bucklands Beach will play their rescheduled league fixture on Wednesday night at Drury.
