The price was reported at $49 million. A Macy’s department store is in that loca tion, and through a lease-back arrangement, the store will continue to operate. Elvis returns to Main St. G. Grove on October 9

He may have “left the building” for the last time Aug. 16, 1977, but Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll is still very much alive in the hearts and minds of hisAndfans.all things Elvis and then some will come together once again during the 22nd Annual Elvis Festival on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Historic Main Street in Gar den Grove, home of the iconic Elvis themed Azteca Mexican restaurant.SincePresley’s death 45 years ago Presley has continued to be honored, celebrated and emu lated and at California’s only Elvis Festival it comes with the approach not just to impersonate the world’s biggest rock and roll music legend, but to present his inspirational legacy that comes in many forms. This year’s theme “Follow That Dream” (an Elvis movie and song title) captures that in tent as the Festival showcases Elvis tribute artists as well as an Inspired by Elvis Showcase for singers who don’t look, act or sing like him, but are aspiring to follow their own music path. In addition, the Festival brings together a bevy of Cadillacs (Presley’s favorite car) for pas senger cars from 1977 and ear lier, memorabilia and collect ibles, handmade inspired by Elvis crafts and artsy creations, Hound Dogs, Elvis themed foods, fan clubs Jailhouse Rock ers of California and Blue Suede Shoes of California and a myr iad of booths, merchants and restaurants celebrating Presley in their own way. The combination of entertain ment and activities includes four bands featuring Wall along with his band Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies, regulars at Knott’s

By Lindsey Bahr AP Film Writer

There is a montage in “Me Time,” the new Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg Netflix comedy, where Hart’s character Sonny gets a day to himself for the first time in a long time. For years, he’s devoted himself as a stay-at-home dad to his two kids (the very cute Che Tafari and Amentii Sledge). It’s a job he takes very, very seriously, mak ing Instagram influencer-worthy lunches and managing the home while his wife Maya (Regina Hall) is working. She’s a suc cessful architect, we’re told, but we’ll get to that later.

Sonny has a modest vision for his day off: He wants to golf. He wants to find an underground barbeque spot. And he wants to do a few other things in private. But nothing goes the way he hoped it would. Unfortunately, his underwhelming experience is similar to that of watching the film itself. “Me Time” some how squanders a solid premise, a stacked cast and a seemingly unlimited budget. It didn’t need to be anything great in this movie comedy drought we seem to be in. But considering who was in volved, it really should be better than it is. “Me Time’’ was written and di rected by John Hamburg, who also did “I Love You, Man” and “Along Came Polly,” and it is as fine a premise as any to pair a standard straight man with a wild and crazy friend from his youth. In this case that friend is Huck (Wahlberg). We meet them cele brating Huck’s 29th birthday. His wild activity that year is BASE jumping, which provides a lively and promising start for the film that then comes to a complete halt. “Me Time” cuts to 15 years later and spends far too much time establishing Sonny’s home life instead of just getting him back with Huck as soon as pos sible.AsHuck, Wahlberg was clearly ready to go all out, including some nudity. He gets to be a high-rolling party fiend, which has its moments even though his character never really makes much sense. Hart, meanwhile, stays in his comfort zone as a slightly frazzled family man. It’s

Continued from page 5 into a bit of a plot point when a loan shark (Jimmy O. Yang) comes after him for $47,000 –which seems like a lot but also not enough for someone who shells out thousands of dollars to have a personal raw bar in the desert and a tour bus wrapped with pictures of himself. And then there’s the perplex ing question of why Maya, who her billionaire client (Luis Ge rardo Mendez) says is “the best architect in the world,” lives in a cookie cutter Sherman Oaks home that looks like it’s been lifted out of a 1990s sitcom. Maya is just one of the very underwritten characters at play here, and Hall definitely de served better. These are all quibbles that would be beside the point if this movie was consistently fun or funny, something he’s very good at, but also something we’ve seen many timesStill, before.it’snice to see both try a different comedy partner out in stead of their go-to co-stars. And though the two actors seem to be having fun together, the film never really finds its lane, frenet ically jumping from half-baked bit to bit, too many of which which is frustrating because you can see the possibilities here.

UCLA and Southern California aren’t leaving for the Big Ten until 2024, but there’s already an uncomfortable air out West. “It’s an awkward situation for everybody,’’ UCLA coach Chip Kelly said. The Pac-12’s future is still up in the air, whether it’s standing pat with 10 teams, expanding or losing more schools to other major conferences. The main goal will remain no matter what schools are still there: getting through to the College Football Playoff. The Pac-12 has put two teams through to the CFP and none since Washington lost to Ala bama in the 2017 national semi finals. The conference’s last national champion was USC in 2005.The Pac-12 has three teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 to start this season: No. 7 Utah, No. 11 Oregon and No. 14 USC.“This conference has been re ally deep and it’s really hard to run the table in this conference,” Stanford coach David Shaw said. “Maybe other conferences it’s easier playing eight confer ence games, maybe the confer ence is not quite as deep. You have three games to get up for every year. Our conference, if you slip up, you’re going to get beat.”

Quarterback Cameron Rising’s return is a big reason why. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,493 yards and 20 touchdowns with just five interceptions. Ris ing had the Utes in position to knock off Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, but went out in the fourth quarter af ter his head slammed to the turf as he was sacked. The Buckeyes won 48-45 with Rising on the sideline.Rising completed nearly 64% of his passes last season and has added arm strength so he can take more deep shots down the field this year. “Cam means so much to our football team,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. “Off the field he’s the leader of the leaders, the alpha dog of our team, really sets the standard. You couldn’t ask for a better leader.”

Pac-12 conference nearing a crossroadsUSC,UCLA for the 2024 season. For now, the game will be nonconference matchups. On Saturday, USC will host Rice University at 3 p.m. at the Coliseum. UCLA will host Bowling Green at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl at 11:30 a.m.

NEW-LOOK TROJANS USC finished 4-8 last season and coach Clay Helton was fired after an early-season loss to Stanford.TheTrojans have reloaded and are one of the favorites to win the Pac-12 this season. USC lured Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to lead the resur gence and added 24 veteran transfers from programs across the country.
