Incentives For A 4-Day Workweek Are Considered Tax credit idea is proposed by George Brietigam Would you rather work five eight-hour days, or four 10-hour days? When the Garden Grove City Council meets on Tuesday, it will consider a proposal by Councilmember George Brietigam (District 1) to provide incentives to businesses in the city to offer “alternative” work schedules. As proposed by Brietigam, qualifying businesses would get a
five percent rebate from the business license tax for participating. When he introduced the idea at the most recent council meeting, he said it was a “quality of life” issue that could also reduce traffic and air pollution. Also on the agenda are: • an information update on the Community Center Engagement project involving renovation or expansion of the city’s police facility on Acacia Parkway; • introduction and first reading of a proposed ordinance prohibiting the unlawful possession Continued on page 2

10 percent pay hike for employees on agenda A pay raise of 10 percent for most municipal employees goes before the Westminster City Council when it meets on Wednesday. These “Memorandums of Understanding” between the city and the Westminster Municipal Employees Association and Westminster Police Officers Association, with conditions also covering certain other city employees,
are on the agenda. Previous agreements expired on June 30, 2020. If approved, they would go into effect on July 2, 2022 and be effective through June 30, 2023. Three of four COVID-19 metrics show increases Three of four major metrics tracking the coronavirus pandemic in Orange County showed increases in Friday’s report from the county health care agency. According to the OCHA, today’s tallies – reflecting the three days of May 3-5 – revealed a rise in confirmed new case to 1,381. That’s a daily average of 460.33 and compares to Tuesday’s total of 1,235, with an average of 308.75. Public help sought in attack in Santa Ana
Santa Ana police are asking the public’s help in contacting any additional victims of a man arrested for the kidnapping and rape of a 40-year-old woman. According to the SAPD, the suspect is Juan Aguilar Garcia, 30 of Santa Ana. He’s been booked into Orange County jail on several sexual assaultrelated charges. Bail has been set at $1 million. At around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to the 1600 block of N. Ross St., regarding a woman who said she had been kidnapped and raped. Arrest made in murder in Anaheim A man has been detained in connection with a homicide in an Anaheim home. According to the APD, police were notified Tuesday after 6:30 p.m. of a man who was at a residence in the 500 block of N. Philadelphia Street (east of Anaheim Boulevard) in violation of a court order. Continued on page 3
