Cleric calls for ‘unified’ New Yam Festival

irector, Directorate of Igbo Village and Centre for African civilization (IVACAC), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Very Rev Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Ucehnna Umeogu has called for a ‘unified’ New Yam (Iwa Ji) Festival in Igbo-Land, saying this would internationalize the celebration thereby making it an event for cultural exchange between Ndigbo and the rest of the world. To this effect, Rev Fr. Umeogu enjoined South East governors to collaborate with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo renaissance groups to decide on a day for that celebration and institute events or competitions around the Iwa Ji festival for the five SouthEast States. NDIGENOUS and multinational oil and gas investors in Nigeria have called on government to address all fiscal and regulatory concerns in the local operating environment to attract the right set of investible funds for domestic gas development. The calls follow government’s mandate on the industry to position the petroleum industry rapidly changing energy demand from petroleum liquids to cleaner, cheaper and more sustainable gas resources. According to the Nigerian Gas Association, the industry requires over $51 billion investments to address upstream field development and production operations, development of new infrastructure and facilities to fill acute deficits in the domestic gas markets and growth in liquefaction and shipping for exports.
