Share Your Passion - Porsche Club of Victoria

Porsche Centre Brighton welcomed the Porsche Club of Victoria to host their February general meeting.

Just over 250 Porsche Club of Victoria Members attending the February event were officially welcomed by PM Group CEO Robert Gattereder, also a Porsche enthusiast who has owned many Porsches over the years.

Porsche Centre Brighton management also attended on the evening, including General Manager Chris Green, After Sales and Service Manager Michael Smith and Parts Manager Mark Eldridge – all there to enjoy the unmistakable camaraderie that is evident at all Porsche Club Victoria events.

In addition to experiencing the new facilities at Porsche Centre Brighton, the object of any club night is to socialise, revive friendships, make new ones and whet appetites – not only for food and refreshments, but also for the exciting club year ahead.

Five bi-monthly meetings are held throughout the year, which include dinner, socialising and presentations by a variety of guest speakers from all walks of life and motorsport.

Porsche Registers

Depending on the Porsche you own, you are automatically a member of that model’s Register. The Registers exist for cars of a particular year group or type and offer technical information events specific to that group and friendly social events. These groups tend to be smaller and quite intimate, fostering lasting friendships.

For example, 911 and other register members were invited to club member Robert Buttery’s hangar at Essendon Airport to view and discuss the rare PFM 3200 engine fitted to Robert’s Mooney light aircraft.

This PFM 3200 engine is similar to the engine fitted to the Mid 911 “G” Series cars. Porsche produced fewer than 80 of these, and there are now only about 20 worldwide.

Enjoy a Social Event

There are always social events on offer with day runs, as well as occasional overnight and multi-day runs within Victoria and interstate.

On Sunday 1 March, the annual Summer Run to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) was held. The RGYC club rooms overlook Corio Bay with views through to the You Yangs.

The event is an organised drive to Geelong, then canapés on the lawn of the RGYC followed by a meal.

Porsche Trackside

With Porsche having such an interest and success in motorsport, the club’s track program features circuit, hillclimb and motorkhana events at tracks such as Sandown, Phillip Island, Winton, Bryant Park and Broadford.

There are championships on offer but also a noncompetitive Entrée group who come to enjoy the competition and gain experience. They are offered instruction and runs without the pressure of competition.

On Sunday 29 March the club will be racing at Sandown, located in suburban Melbourne and easily accessed. This is a great event to come and see if you have an inkling that racing may be in your blood.

Everyone in the Porsche Club is an enthusiast, and the Club provides the ideal avenue to share your passion with a group of fantastic fun-loving people.
