A chance meeting brings Porsche to Australia O
n June 8, 1948 the first automobile to bear the Porsche name was registered – 356, simply called the ‘No.1’ Roadster. This day is considered to be the birth of the Porsche brand.
Ferdinand (Ferry) Porsche built an electric vehicle in 1900 – the Lohner – Porsche. He used it as a basis for building the first all-wheel-drive passenger car in the world.
However, Ferdinand Porsche was already designing ground-breaking innovations in automobile construction at the beginning of the last century.
That same year, he provided a template for hybrid vehicles with the development of a gasoline-electric mixed drive.
