40 Food-Loving Tours in Wallonia Download the map
A Taste of the Good Life! If you love good food then Wallonia qualifies with flying colours. It is easily distinguished by diversity, quality, but also the distinctiveness of its products, their transformation and their promotion. This map offers a selection of 40 producers and artisans who are proud to showcase their wares, their know-how, their generosity and their identity. Many offer visits at fixed dates and times. Meet the Brewers
Meet the Chocolatiers
Since November 2016, Belgium’s beer culture has been listed as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
Belgium is known around the world for the quality of its chocolate. It is savoured as much as one enjoys a wine. If Belgian chocolate is so well savoured and appreciated, it is above all thanks to the knowhow of Belgian chocolatiers. Their pralines, boxes of chocolates, bars, spreads, or even macarons are exported to all continents. Indeed, many regularly receive international awards. Traditionally made and often novel, Belgian chocolate remains a gourmet product appreciated by all. The artisan chocolatiers will tell you about their passion, their selection of cocoa and the making of chocolate from the bean itself, this is referred to as «bean to bar».
Beer is ubiquitous in Wallonia – there are more than 500 different ones.

Blondes, browns, ambers, whites, fruity, stouts, lambic and seasonal beers... There’s something for everyone. Many regional culinary preparations incorporate this delicate beverage that often accompanies moments of celebration and conviviality. Did you know that of the eleven Trappist abbeys in the world, three are Walloon: Orval, Chimay and Rochefort? A GR (long distance) discovery trail has even been created for hikers stopping at abbeys with Trappist beers and breweries.
Meet the Winegrowers and Distillers The history of Walloon vineyards dates back to the middle ages. Wineproduction was abandoned in the Renaissance and revived in the 1960s. Since the beginning of the 21st century and mainly in the last ten years, a new enthusiasm has been generated. The Walloon region has two production approaches: traditional grape varieties (Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot gris...) and hybrid grape varieties (Bacchus, Regent...). There are three AOPs – appellations d’origine protégée (Protected Designations of Origin), and a designation with indication géographique protégée (IGP) or Protected Geographical Indication: • Côtes de Sambre et Meuse (AOP); • Vin de pays des Jardins de Wallonie (IGP);

• Crémant de Wallonie (AOP) et Vins mousseux de qualité de Wallonie (AOP). Wallonia has several distilleries. They produce popular spirits such as brandies, liqueurs, gin and fruit wines which are made according to unique or traditional recipes, and not forgetting 100% Belgian whisky whose reputation goes beyond our borders.
Meet Other Producers On the winding roads of Wallonia, the invitation to sample gourmet pleasures is dense and varied and is not limited to beer, wine or chocolate. Many other quality products are made in order to safeguard traditions but also in an innovative and unique spirit; • Sirop de Liège (Syrup from Liège) produced with apples and pears from many orchards in the “Pays de Herve” region; • Jambon d’Ardenne (Ardenne ham), salt-cured meats and venison of the Ardennes forests; • Charcuterie and ostrich meat; • Snails, symbols of the city of Namur but not exclusively; • Herve cheese with raw milk, the only Belgian cheese recognized as PDO (protected designation of origin); • Ewe’s cheese produced in authentic sheepfolds; • The succulent strawberries of Wépion; • Mustards, condiments and other piccalillis; • Jams, jellies, fruit jelly… All you have to do is prepare your itinerary and discover all these gourmet and exceptional treasures that make our region famous. Keep in mind, however, that alcohol abuse is harmful to health. Consequently, consume and enjoy in moderation.
Enjoy your visit to food-loving Wallonia!
