Stanley C. Smith, Interim Superintendent August 3, 2012 Dear Parent/Guardian: There is no mission more critical than providing children access to the best education possible. In accordance with Louisiana’s Public School Choice Policy, we are required to inform you that your child is enrolled at a public school that is projected to receive a grade of “F,” which is considered failing per our state’s public school accountability system. The Architecture, Design, and Engineering Preparatory High School (ADEP) were identified as a failing school, with a letter grade of “F”, and a School Performance Score of 50.2. Because of this designation, your child is eligible to transfer to a higher performing school within the school district. If you elect to take advantage of this school transfer opportunity, transportation will be provided for your child. You may choose one of the following schools for your child to attend. On the enclosed Choice Request Form, please place a number 1 next to your preferred choice, number 2 next to your second choice, and number 3 next to your third choice. • Mc Donogh #35 High School, Letter Grade “C”, School Performance Score – 92.6 • Mc Main Secondary School, Letter Grade “B”, School Performance Score – 97.5 • New Orleans Science & Math Charter, Letter Grade “B”, School Performance Score – 96.4 • Warren Easton Charter High School, Letter Grade “A”, School Performance Score – 105.3 It is possible that your child will not be accepted into your first choice because enrollment is subject to availability. In the event that this occurs, your child will be placed at the highest ranked school where there is capacity. If you choose to send your child to a higher performing school, please complete the enclosed Choice Request Form and return it to the Orleans Parish School Board by Tuesday, August 14, 2012. All request forms must be received at the following address: Orleans Parish School Board Public School Choice Office 3520 Gen. DeGaulle Drive, Suite #5055 New Orleans, LA 70114 We will send official notification of your child’s school placement no later than August 17, 2012. All transfer paperwork must be completed by August 22, 2012. If transfer paperwork is received after August 22, 2012, a transfer will not be granted, and your child will remain enrolled at their current school. If you have any questions about your options under the state’s Public School Choice Policy, please contact: Ivy Williams at 504-359-8152, email: Ivy_Williams@opsb.us Sincerely, Stan C. Smith Interim Superintendent Orleans Parish School Board
