The SBLC does not determine the progression of students with disabilities participating in the LEAP Alternate Assessments. Instead, its role is to participate in decision-making regarding those students whose academic performance demonstrates a 2 to 3 grade-level decline or a significant change in appropriate behavior as outlined in the OPSB Code of Conduct. This may suggest a need for a reevaluation to determine if a more restrictive environment is appropriate. The responsibility of determining the progression of students with disabilities who participate in the LEAP Alternate Assessments is that of the IEP committee. Each student's IEP conference is conducted annually. At that meeting all involved parties: Special Education Teacher, General Education Teacher, Parent, Officially Designated Representative, and members who provide both direct and related services discuss the progress of the student. LEAP Alternate Assessment scores from the previous year, as well as progress on goals and objectives from the IEP are reviewed. The LAA 1 or LAA 2 Participation Criteria Form is completed. Pertinent questions are answered to determine movement of the student. Input from each member is analyzed to determine the best assessment instrument for the upcoming year B.
