To the 3rd cohort of ONYX25,
Brothers it has been a tumultuous experience navigating through this spring semester We have witnessed a slew of losses, including academic struggles, financials hardships, and even the ending of relationships. Each of you have faced a major challenge, or multiple throughout this school year Some battles were shared publicly, while others we may have navigated in the comfort of our solitude. That has been a great portion of our spring semester Although community was built through hardship, you all did not let it end there. Each of you celebrated like no other.
This semester we saw success on and off the court We witnessed some very distinct wins. We saw the establishment of organizations on campus, the gaining of new titles, the growing of friendships, and the benefits of challenging ourselves to apply for internships/scholarships. All this was done for the evolution of our leadership stories. You each have showcased a dedication to turning trials in nature of collegiate Black men. What you may have c yourself, it actually has had a greater reach for the cam story is not solely for the purpose of living, but has be around you. As this journey for ONYX25 comes to an e end but simply a new genesis

HDear Brother,
Throughout life, you will experience pressures from those all around you friends, family, significant others, colleagues, your community, and yourself. The pressure to perform, to succeed, and be everything for everyone before you can be anything for yourself Let me be the first to tell you that the pressure you experience will not always be easy You will have days when you want to quit and throw in the towel but let this be your reminder not to give up, not to run away from the pressure but run towards it because the pressure will shape you into the diamond you are meant to be.
Life is about how well you are able to manage each aspect of life And to be honest, there will be times when some areas are easier to manage than others. While it may be easy to do what is comfortable, seek the uncomfortable experiences and conversations that will make you better holistically and shape you as a man Your growth as a man is dependent upon your obedience to do what needs to be done even when you do not have a desire to do it
Finally, there are many things in life you cannot get through alone. For it truly does take a village, even as adults Make sure you surround yourself with friends who have desires to be successful and prosperous. Stick close to family that is uplifting and supportive. Identify and build your network of mentors for all areas of your life because wisdom does not always come from within Seek love in all the right places, for love is our greatest strength Most importantly, keep God first. When others may leave, God will always be there. “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you” Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT The world is not the only one waiting one you to be the diamond you are the person looking back at you in the mirror is waiting to Embrace the pressure, love the pressure, defeat the pressure, but never give in to the pressure. Shine on brother!
Your brother from another mother,
Michael N. Weaver, Jr.
