We want to say, ‘Thank You!’

Within academia, many collegiate Black men navigate their paths without ample opportunities to acknowledge the support networks propelling them forward At The Collegiate Black Male Network, we do our best to intentionally create spaces for celebration and gratitude. Together, we affirm the importance of acknowledging the support systems that empower us on our journeys.

In this segment of Amplified, let’s hear from students who wrote a brief “shout out” to thank a peer or faculty/staff member for being apart of their support network as they matriculate throughout their collegiate experience

Matthew Dormus

Ministerial Theology Student, Oakwood University

Have you ever met a person that inspires you to question your own vision for your life? Gabriel is a young man who easily declares his plan to be a NASA astronaut to those who ask. And no, it’s not a pipe dream. He’s learning multiple languages, has acquired his scuba diving license, and is working with the United States State Department to help kids in Colombia. Additionally, he’s a sophomore double majoring in applied mathematics/engineering and journalism with an emphasis in politics while also minoring in theology It should not go unnoticed that he’s doing all of this while keeping a high GPA, serving in multiple leadership positions, and singing with The Aeolians, the 2017 Choir of the World It’s incredible too that I’ve only shared half of what he’s engaged in If anyone is going to the stars, it’s Gabriel If anyone is committed to being Black excellence, it’s Gabriel. And I’m just proud to be his friend.

A WORD OF EMPOWERMENT

A WORD OF EMPOWERMENT

Dear Brother

A Word of Empowerment

Dear Brother,

I"Let this love begin with you, nurturing a sense of selfhonor and appreciation that radiates outward, touching lives, just as the sun nurtures the earth.”

In the vibrant heart of Chicago, I've woven a tapestry of dreams into the fabric of reality, guided by an unwavering belief in the power of service, love, and resilience.

This journey from vision to impact teaches a profound lesson, one I share with you: our greatest strength lies in nurturing our mental, emotional, and physical well-being Our health is our wealth, the bedrock upon which we build our dreams and support our communities

It fuels our capacity to serve, to love, and to thrive I urge you, my brother, to honor this temple of yours, to feed it with nourishment, rest, and movement, allowing your soul's light to shine even brighter. In this pursuit, remember the essence of love both given and received. It's a force, transformative and healing, bridging gaps and fostering unity.

Let this love begin with you, nurturing a sense of self-honor and appreciation that radiates outward, touching lives, just as the sun nurtures the earth

Our journey is shaped by our words and thoughts, the architects of our destiny Speak your truth with intention, and let your thoughts be the seeds of the future you wish to see bloom

This power of manifestation is not just a belief but a way of life, sculpting the invisible into the visible. As I pen these words, my heart is full of hope and love for you, dear brother. May you walk in strength, wrapped in the love we share, for in this connection, we find our true power.

I love you, dear brother, more than words can weave, for in this love, we find our collective dream With all my heart,

Your Brother, Dion Dawson
