NANCY SANCHEZ As a Mexican-American woman, I often find myself struggling with identity. But this is no different than any other first generation immigrant. I fall under what people often categorize as identity art, I on the other hand, name it elegy. Most of all my pieces deal with the remembrance of objects, ideas, and people. I want to get passed this emotional bond and create physical ties between my work and the world around us. How similar is a plant to us? The fibers from a plant are well woven like the fibers on our skin. I want to be able to make these simple connections and bring us back into our primitive state of being. ___ Como mujer mexico-americana, a menudo me encuentro luchando con la identidad. Pero esto no es diferente de cualquier otra primera generación inmigrante. Frecuentemente la gente suele categorizar mi obra como arte identidad, yo la nombro elegía. La mayor parte de todas mis piezas se ocupan de la memoria de los objetos, ideas y personas. Quiero pasar este vínculo emocional y crear vínculos físicos entre mi trabajo y el mundo que nos rodea. ¿Qué tan similar es una planta para nosotros? Las fibras de una planta están bien tejidas como las fibras en nuestra piel.

Quiero ser capaz de hacer estas sencillas conexiones y traernos de vuelta a nuestro estado primitivo del ser.
