The etching depict a female ďŹ gure seen from behind, with a tambourine in her left hand. There are many possible interpretations: the ďŹ gure could represent a bacchante, during the celebrations of Dionysian rites, women played the tambourine. However, the tambourine is also the attribute of Hercules dressed as a woman. Or it could be Erato, the muse of lyric poetry and loving , whose attribute is precisely the tambourine.
