Hegewisch Lions Club Celebrates 50 years

yourvoice@ontnews.com The Hegewisch Lions Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary at Steve’s Lounge in Hegewisch. The Club’s Charter Night was also held at Steve’s Lounge on June 9th, 1962. On this night The Hegewisch lions extended a sincere thanks to the Lansing Lions Club who sponsored their charter. Principal Speaker, District 1A Governor Lion, Austin D’ Souza, delivered an inspirational address detailing International, State, District and Local accomplishments throughout the past year. The Club’s officers were installed for 2012-13 by past District Governor Lion, Bob Block. Other local clubs in attendance included the Southeast Side Lions, East Side Lions, Calumet City Lions and Lansing Lions. Lions Club International has 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members making it the world’s largest service club organization. It is also one of the most effective and its members do whatever is needed to help their local
communities. “Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet,” says Lion, Tim David. Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better. That’s because they help where help is needed – in communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. The Lions Club vision is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.
