Welcome to the 32nd annual Northwest New Works Festival! Over these first two weeks of June, performers from Seattle, Portland, Boise, and Vancouver, BC will present new material in the fields of dance, music, theater, dance/theater, performance art, and just plain weird stuff. It’s important that performers not only continue to push their own boundaries and the boundaries of what performance is, but that they then have an opportunity to showcase this to the public. On the Boards has had an ongoing commitment to fostering artists willing to take this chance. But the other people who need to be willing to take a chance are the ones in the audience. The artists will put it out there - but there needs to be someone watching and listening and responding to what they do. Thanks for taking a chance on new work! We wouldn’t still be doing this for over 30 years without your support! Charles Smith Director of Program Management & Audience Services

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL MIXER-UP SUN JUN 14 Following each weekend’s 8pm Sunday performance, join us next door at The Sitting Room for a post-show celebration. Meet the festival artists & raise a glass with a great community of artists and arts supporters!

ADRIANA HERNANDEZ Mujer Bonita Choreography: Adriana Hernandez Vocal Arrangement: Nico Tower Music: Mujer Divina and Maria Bonita - Agustin Lara (composer), recording by Natalia Lafourcade Performers: Carla Maria Negrete Martinez with Nancy Blanco-Hrivnak, Adriana Hernandez, Nico Tower Costume Construction: Becky Strausser, Mayela Gutierrez, Estela Gonzalez LYRICS Mujer Divina – Devine woman, you have the poison that fascinates in your look. Unforgettable woman, you have a sounding passionate vibration. You have the perfume of an orange orchard in bloom, the carriage of a majesty, you know about the filters of love, you have the spell of softness, the divine magic of a sunset, or the wonder of inspiration. You have, in the rhythm of your being, the palpitation of a song. You are the reason why I exist, woman. You make me walk, travel distances. I can breathe you, you feed my love. You also make me cry tears of honey, woman. Maria Bonita - Remember those nights in Acapulco? Remember that at the beach you rinsed your little starlight hands? Your body like a toy to the sea swayed and while I looked at you, I must confess my thoughts betrayed me. I said a lot of pretty words that soothe the heart, asking that you love me and transform my dreams to reality. The moon looked at us and looked away and when I saw it hiding, I kneeled to kiss you and give you all my life. Love you might’ve had plenty of but none as good and true as the one you made bloom in me. I bring it full of flowers to give to you. Receive it with excitement and promise me you won’t lie because you feel revered. - Translated by Adriana Hernandez Bios Born in Southern California Adriana Hernandez grew up in Tijuana, Mexico. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts with a BFA in Dance in 2013. She has worked with Iyun Ashani Harrison, Mary Sheldon Scott, Anna Conner, Ktisk Contemporary Dance, Alyza DelPan-Monley, Alicia Mullikin, and other artists in Seattle, San Diego, and Mexico. Her choreographic work has been presented through Velocity Dance Center’s Bridge Project 2015, at Cornish College of the Arts, and Southwestern Community College where she also received the Outstanding Dancer/Choreographer Scholarship.
